Set the speakers up on an even surface to prevent them from falling over.
Take proper precautions to prevent the speakers from falling over
if you cannot set them up on an even surface.

STEP 1 Front and surround speaker assembly
Preparation
≥To prevent damage or scratches, lay down a soft cloth and perform assembly on it.
≥For assembly, use a Phillips-head screwdriver.
1 Attach the pipe to the large base.
1Thread the speaker cable through the base.
≥For quicker threading, fold the cable lightly in half (do not crease), pass the
folded portion through the hole in the base, and then pull through the rest
of the cable.
2Insert the pipe.
3Secure the pipe to the base.
Ensure the screw is securely fastened.
2 Attach the stands to the front and surround speakers.
≥There is no difference between the right and left speakers and stands.
≥Using the polyfoam and packaging cover included with this unit may ease attachment.
1Remove the mounting plate screw, and remove plate B. 2Place the pipe on plate A and attach plate B.
Rotate the pipe so that the flat side is facing away from the back of the
speaker.
3Secure the plate with the same screw removed in procedure 1.

Lessen excess

Panasonic SB-FS1501 front speakers and SB-PS1501 surround

3 Connect the speaker cables.
4 Adjust the speaker height.
≥Check the screws you tightened in procedures 1-3and 2 -3if the pipe and speaker are loose (➡page 2).

5 Fasten the speaker cable.
≥Using the same polyfoam as done in procedure 2 will assist you in safely and securely fastening the speaker cables.

≥Twist off the vinyl ends of the speaker cable.

1Loosen the attached mounting plate screw
until the attached speaker is slightly loose
and adjustable.
Be careful not to loosen the screw too much
or the speaker may detach and fall.
2With one hand on the base, and the other
holding the speaker, adjust the height of
the speaker up and down.

For your reference
You can enjoy good acoustics by
adjusting the height of the front and
surround speakers to the height of
the television so the center position
of both are approximately the same.
Press the speaker cable

If there is any excess speaker
cable, thread the speaker
cable from the opening near
the top of the pipe while lightly
pulling the speaker cable from
the bottom of the base.
1Press the speaker cable and thread
between the hooks.
2Fit the speaker cable into the base cover groove

STEP 2 Setup and connection of speakers
Preparation
Attach the stickers to the speaker cables.
≥In the same way, attach the sticker to the front speaker cable (R) and the
surround speaker cables (L, R).

Check to make sure the washer screws on the bottom of the front and
surround speaker bases are not loose.
Positioning for best effect
How you set up your speakers can affect the bass and the sound field. Note
the following points.
≥Place the front, center, and surround speakers at approximately the
same distance from the seating position.
The angles in the diagram below are approximate.
≥Place speakers on flat secure bases.
≥Placing speakers too close to floors, walls, and corners can result in
excessive bass. Cover walls and windows with thick curtains.

≥Set the speakers up on an even surface to prevent them from falling over.
Take proper precautions to prevent the speakers from falling over if you
cannot set them up on an even surface.
≥The left and right speaker pairs are the same with respect to the front and
surround speakers. Place each of the speakers in accordance with the
stickers you just attached.
≥Before moving the main unit, ensure the disc tray is empty.
Failure to do so will risk severely damaging the disc and the main unit.

Notes on speaker use
≥Use only supplied speakers. Using other speakers can damage the unit
and sound quality will be negatively affected.
≥You can damage your speakers and shorten their useful life if you play
sound at high levels over extended periods.
≥Reduce the volume in the following cases to avoid damage.
–When playing distorted sound.
–When the speakers are receiving howling from a record player, noise
from FM broadcasts, or continuous signals from an oscillator, test disc, or
electronic instrument.
–When adjusting the sound quality.
–When turning the unit on or off.
≥Do not stand on the base and
shake the speaker. Be cautious
when children are near.

≥Be sure to connect only positive (copper) wires to positive (i) terminals and negative (silver) wires to negative
(j) terminals. Incorrect connection can damage the speakers.

If irregular coloring occurs on your television
The supplied speakers are designed to be used close to a television, but
the picture may be affected with some televisions and setup
combinations.
If this occurs, turn the television off for about 30 minutes.
The television’s demagnetizing function should correct the problem. If it
persists, move the speakers further away from the television.

STEP 3 Video connections
≥Before connection, turn off all equipment and read the appropriate operating instructions.
≥The equipment connections described are examples.
≥Peripheral equipment and optional cables sold separately unless otherwise indicated.
∫Recommended connection for your television
≥If your television does not have one of the terminals mentioned above, connect with the RF sockets only (➡page 7). However, when using this connection,
the picture received from a satellite receiver may not be clear, therefore we do not recommend it.
Q Link functions
Q Link offers a range of convenient functions (For further details ➡Operations Guide, page 55). Make sure to connect a fully wired 21-pin Scart lead to the
television if using the Q Link function.
The following systems from other manufacturers have similar functions to Q Link from Panasonic. For details, refer to your television’s operating instructions
or consult your dealer.

∫Do not connect the unit through a video cassette
recorder
Video signals fed through video cassette recorders will be affected by
copyright protection systems and the picture will not be shown correctly on
the television.
≥When connecting to a television with a built-in VCR, connect to the input
terminals on the television side, not the VCR side.

≥When there is no 21-pin Scart terminal on the television (➡below or page 8).
≥Change the “AV2 Input” setting to match the output from a satellite receiver and set the “AV2 Connection” setting to “Normal” in the SETUP menu
(➡Operations Guide, page 50) after tuning is completed (➡page 10, 11).
∫To view satellite programmes
Press [HDD/DVD INPUT] to select the input channel “A2” for the satellite
receiver or put this unit in standby mode.
∫RGB
This refers to the three primary colours of light, red (R), green (G), and blue
(B) and also the method of producing video that uses them. By dividing the
video signal into the three colours for transmission, noise is reduced for
even higher quality images.
If you do not have a Satellite receiver, connect the aerial to the RF IN socket on this unit .

If your television is equipped with RGB input capability, by connecting with a fully
wired 21-pin Scart lead you can see video using RGB output on this unit
(➡below). To output in RGB select “RGB (without component)” from “AV1 Output”
in the SETUP menu (➡Operations Guide, page 50) after tuning is completed
(➡page 10, 11).

STEP 3 Video connections
Connecting to the television using the 21-pin Scart leads (➡page 7).
∫Component video output
Component signal outputs the colour difference signals (PB/PR) and luminance signal (Y) separately in order to achieve high fidelity in reproducing colours. If
the television is compatible with progressive output, a high quality picture can be output because this unit’s component video output terminal outputs a
progressive output signal (➡Operations Guide, page 54).

≥Decoder here means the device used to decode scrambled broadcasts (Pay TV).
≥Change the “AV2 Input” and “AV2 Connection” settings in the SETUP menu to match the connected equipment (➡Operations Guide, page 50) after tuning
is completed (➜page 10, 11).

STEP 4 Radio and system connection
1 Connect the aerials.
(Optional FM aerial connection➡Operations Guide, page 45)
2 Connect the system cable.
3 Connect the AC mains leads.
≥Connect both AC mains leads to enjoy all the features of this system. (The
leads are the same.)
Conserving power
The main unit consumes a small amount of power, even when it is turned off
(approx. 7.5 W). To save power when the unit is not to be used for a long
time, unplug it from the household mains socket.
Set the unit to standby mode and remove the AC mains lead once
“BYE” disappears from the unit’s display.
You will need to reset some memory items in the unit after plugging.

STEP 5 Channel reception settings
Preparation
≥Confirm that the aerial is connected correctly.
≥Switch [HOME THEATER, TV] to “HOME THEATER”.
When connecting to a television that has the Q Link function
(➡Operations Guide, page 55) with a fully wired 21-pin Scart
lead (➡page 7).
You can download the tuning data from the television.
The unit’s Auto Clock Setting function will automatically synchronize the
time and date with that of the receiving station after tuning is completed.
1Turn on the television and select the
appropriate AV input to suit the
connections to this unit.
2Press [Í] to turn the unit on.
Downloading from the television starts.
3When downloading has been completed, the Owner ID settings
screen appears.
Press [1] and press the numbered buttons
to enter a 4-digit PIN number.
≥Make a note of the PIN number (don’t forget), as it is not possible to
return to the factory preset.
4Press [ENTER] twice to store the PIN
number.
The cursor moves to “Name”.
5Press [1].
6Press [3,4] to select a letter and then
press [1].
Repeat this to enter the name.
7Press [ENTER] to store the name.
8Press [4] and [1], and then repeat steps
6, 7 to enter and store “House No.” and
“Postcode”.
9Press [RETURN].
The Owner ID settings screen disappears.
To stop partway
Press [RETURN].
∫If the clock setting menu appears
Set the clock manually (➡Operations Guide, page 52).
∫To confirm that stations have been tuned correctly
(➡Operations Guide, page 51)
∫To restart Preset Download (➡Operations Guide,
page 51)
∫If you connect other equipment to AV2 terminal of this
unit
Change the “AV2 Input” and “AV2 Connection” in the SETUP menu to
match the connected equipment (➡Operations Guide, page 50).
∫If there is interference or a very poor picture appears
on the TV screen
Refer to “Removing Interference” (➡Operations Guide, page 17), and
perform steps 1, 2 and 4 to stop the RF output. In step 2, press [0] to select
“ss”.
