SAFETYPRECAUTIONS
GENERAL GUIDELINES
1.It isadvisabletoinsert anisolation transformerinthe
a.c. supplybeforeservicing ahot chassis.
2.Whenservicing,observetheoriginal leaddressinthe
highvoltagecircuits.If ashortcircuit isfound, replace
all partsthathavebeenoverheatedor damaged by
theshort circuit.
3.Afterservicing, see thatall theprotectivedevices
such as insulationbarriers, insulationpapers,shields
andisolationR-Ccombinationsarecorrectly
installed.
4.Whenthe receiver isnotbeing usedfor along period
of time,unplug thepowercordfromthea.c. outlet.
5.Potentialsashighas27,7kV{23,7kV} arepresent
whenthisreceiver isinoperation. Operationof the
receiver without therearcoverinvolves thedanger of
ashockhazardfromthereceiver powersupply.
Servicingshouldnot beattemptedbyanyone who is
not familiar withtheprecautionsnecessarywhen
working onhighvoltage equipment. Always
dischargetheanode of thetube.
6.Afterservicingmakethefollowing leakagecurrent
checkstoprevent the customer frombeingexposed
toshockhazard.
LEAKAGECURRENTCOLDCHECK
1.Unplug the a.c. cordandconnect ajumper between
thetwoprongsof theplug.
2.Turnonthereceiver spower switch.
3.Measuretheresistancevaluewithanohmmeter,
betweenthe jumpereda.c. plugand each exposed
metalliccabinet part onthereceiver, such as screw
heads, aerials,connectors, control shaftsetc. When
theexposedmetallicpart hasareturnpathtothe
chassis,thereading shouldbebetween4Mohmand
20Mohm.Whentheexposed metaldoes nothavea
returnpathtothechassis, the readingmustbe
infinite.
LEAKAGECURRENTHOTCHECK
1.Plug thea.c.corddirectlyintothe a.c.outlet. Donot
useanisolationtransformerforthischeck.
2.Connect a2k 10Wresistor inseries withan
exposedmetallicpart onthereceiverandan earth,
such as awater pipe.
3.Useana.c. voltmeter withhighimpedanceto
measurethepotential acrosstheresistor.
4.Check each exposedmetallicpart andcheckthe
voltageat each point.
5.Reversethea.c.plugat theoutlet andrepeateachof
theabovemeasurements.
6.Thepotentialat anypoint shouldnot exceed
1,4Vrms. Incaseameasurementisoutsidethelimits
specified, thereisapossibilityofashock hazard, and
thereceivershouldberepairedand recheckedbefore
it isreturned tothecustomer.
X-RADIATIONWARNING
1.Thepotentialsourcesof X-RadiationinTVsetsare
thehighvoltagesection andthepicturetube.
2.Whenusing apicturetubetest jigfor service, ensure
that thejigiscapableofhandling27,7kV{23,7kV}
without causingX-Radiation.
NOTE: It isimportanttousean accurateperiodically
calibratedhigh voltagemeter.
1.Set thebrightnesstominimum.
2.Measurethe highvoltage. The metershouldindicate
26,7kV±1kV{22,7kV±1kV}.
If the meterindicationisout of tolerance, immediate
serviceandcorrectionisrequiredtoprevent thepossibility
ofprematurecomponent failure.
3.To prevent anyX-Radiationpossibility,it isessential
tousethespecifiedtube.
