Tone Generator & Amplifier Probe
Amplifier Probe
Features
•The Amplifier Probe is designed to identify and trace wires or cables within
a group without damaging the insulation
•Works with any Tone Generator to idenlify wires.
•Volume control for increased sensitivity and adjustable to suit work
environment.
•Recessed ON/OFF button prevents battery drain.
•Power supply is in any 9V battery with a life of approximately 100 hours.
•Audio jack for headphone to operate in noisy environment.
•LED indicator for signal strength of tone receive

Tone Generator
Features
•Red and black test leads are provided, and also a standard RJ11 modular
plug
•A 3-position toggle switch controls the modes of operation plus a 3-colored
LED Light Emitting Diode is provided for line polarity, continuity and
voltage testing.
•A tone selector switch, located inside the test set is provided for choosing
either a single solid tone or dual alternating tone.
Operation
A) WIRE IDENTIFYING
1. SENDING TONE
•Switch Tone Generator to “TONE”
•Select A dual alternating tone or a single solid tone by slide switch
inside the tone generator.
•Connecting the tone generator to line pair
OFTEN USE METHOD (GROUNDED) :
Connect red test lead to a wire and connect black test lead to
ground or large metal part for example rack/ cabinet. (See figure 3)
This method provide strongest tone and often use.

OPTIONAL USE METHOD (PAIRED) :
Connect one test lead to a wire and connect the other test lead to
the other wire of pair(See figure 4). This method can further verify if
tracing pair is the target by momentarily shorting the pair at trace
end and found the tone is cancelled.
2. TRACING
•Press the round on/off spring-loaded button of the amplifier probe.
The volume control switch can be adjusted to suit the environment.
Do not adjust volume with sound too high for better identifying
target pair from crosstalk pairs.
•Touch the tip of the amplifier probe to the insulation of each suspect
pair.
•Speaker will receive tone which will be loudest on the target pair.
•Alternative using LED by brightest LED indicate receive of tone from
the target pair.
•Use LED in high background noise or many crosstalk wires, should
cancel brightness of background noise or crosstalk from LED.
Cancelling done by pressing button ofamplifier probe and touch
the tip to those wires which have background noise or crosstalk .
Adjust down slowly the volume from high sound position until LED
brightness cut off or very fade. Then trace those wires which bright
LED indicate receive of tone from the target pair.
•In noisy environment, Headphone can be used by connect to audio
jack on amplifier probe for better hearing.
B) LINE TESTING BY TONE GENERATOR
IDENTIFYING TIP & RING (SWITCH TO “OFF”)
1. Connect the RED test lead to a wire and the BLACK lead to a another
wire of pair.
2. The LED will glow “GREEN” when you connect the RED test lead to
the RING SIDE.
3. The LED will glow “RED” when you connect the RED test lead to the
TIP SIDE.
IDENTIFYING LINE CONDITION (SWITCH TO “OFF”)
1. Connect both test leads to the pair (a test lead on a wire).
2. Observe the LED:
1. A BRIGHT “GREEN” or “RED” LED indicates a CLEAR line.
2. No lamp indicates a BUSY line.
3. A BLINKING LED indicates a RINGING line.
VERIFYING LINES (SWITCH TO “OFF” THEN “CONT”)
1. Dial the line to be verified.
2. While the line is ringing, connect both test leads to the pair (a test lead
on a wire)

Page 4
3. In the “OFF” position, the indicator LED will blinking “GREEN” or “RED”
when the test leads are connected to the target pair.
4. Re-confirm by switch to “CONT”, that will terminate the call on the
target line.
TESTING CONTINUITY(SWITCH TO “CONT”)
1. Connect the test leads to the pair (a test lead on a wire).
2. Shorting both wires at the other end of line
3. A bright “GREEN” LED indicates continuity of line is good. LED will not
work if the line resistance exceeds 10K Ohms
TESTING CONTINUITY USING TONE (SWITCH TO “TONE”)
1. Connect the test leads to the pair(a test lead on a wire).
2. Using a Telephone Test Set in monitor mode at the other end of line
3. Reception of clear tone is indicates continuity of line is good.
MODULAR TESTING
All above tests are available through the modular plug in stead of test leads
COAX TESTING
1. Connect red test lead to outer shield and black test lead to center
conductor
2. Or connect red test lead to outer shield and black test lead to ground
MAINTENANCE
The Tone Generator and amplifier probe is maintenance free except for
battery replacement. Below is the Instruction for Battery replacement
Probe Amplifier
Remove the screw from the battery compartment, replace
with new 9V battery and re-assemble screw DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN.
Tone Generator
Separate the case by remove the screw, replace with new
9V battery and re-assemble screw DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN.
Warranty
Warranty limited solely to repairing or replacement, Warranty will not cover
for unit that was defected by accidental, improper uses and one repaired by
