Overview
This document describes the procedure for installing a ferrite choke onto the
MANAGEMENT SERIAL port cable. The ferrite choke is shipped with every
Hotwire8600 DSLAM (Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer) chassis.
CAUTION:
All ferrite chokes that are supplied must be installed following these
instructions to ensure compliance with FCC Part 15 Rules.
Installation
Procedure
To install the ferrite choke onto the serial port cable:
1. Pull up on the latch to open the ferrite choke.
2. Place the ferrite choke around the cable as close as possible to the cable’s
8-pin modular connector which plugs into the Hotwire 8600 DSLAM
MANAGEMENT SERIAL port connector.
3. Close the two halves around the cable and snap the ferrite choke shut.

4. Press down on the plastic latch to secure the ferrite choke in place around
the cable.

5. Secure the ferrite choke in place by installing the cable tie wrap (shipped with
the choke) adjacent to the choke on the side opposite the connector. This will
prevent the choke from slipping down the cable.

