Off-Air VHF / UHF Spectrum Analyzer
Overview
The DIGIAIR™meter is intended to provide you with a spectrum view of the available off-air channels and provide
a relative strength reading which will assist in alignment of directional antennas. The default screen (on startup)
focuses on one channel, other multiple-channel presentations can be made from the main menu list.
Please take time to read this instruction manual first so you will be familiar with the capabilities of the DIGIAIR™.
Charge the Battery
The DIGIAIR™has an internal NiMH battery which is not charged when you receive the meter.
To charge the battery, plug the wall charger or vehicle charger into the “15VDC socket on the meter. The LCD
display will indicate charging is in process with approximately 14 hours to go on the cycle. In most cases, the
battery will charge up well before the 14 hour limit of the cycle. The meter will indicate when the battery is fully
charged. The charger will not over-charge the battery as it has a timer limit as well as an internal level sensing limiter.
NOTE: If the internal battery is ‘dead’, connecting the wall charger or vehicle charger cord will only begin the
battery charge cycle, this will not power the meter.

Startup
After the battery has charged, press the “ON/MENU”
button. The DIGIAIR™is immediately ready to begin
antenna alignment. The signal strength (when
connected to an antenna) will be indicated by the bar
graph and in digits just above the bar graph. As you
move the antenna, you will see the increase and
decrease in signal strength. The objective is to
maximize the signal strength indicated on the bar graph by rotation adjustments of the antenna. Channel strength
changes are instantaneously reported while viewing this screen. When you have maximized the readings - often a
compromise between the various channels available in your area - tighten the antenna locking bolts.
Note that there are several display presentations possible with the DIGIAIR™other than the default display shown
here. You can also select six-channel bar graphs or even all channels displayed at one time, however the single-
channel display (above) provides the most detailed information. The other possibilities available to you are
discussed in this manual on the following pages. .

The DIGIAIR can provide much more information about the
available channels and features. To access the expanded menu
area (meter must be ‘on’) press the “ON/MENU” button again. The
screen illustrated here will appear. Press the “UP” or “OFF/DOWN”
buttons momentarily to scroll the arrowhead pointer. To activate
the selected item, press the “ON/MENU” button again. A different
screen will then appear.
Note that the OFF/DOWN button should only be depressed
momentarily when making adjustments, the meter will turn itself
‘off’any time you press-and-hold the button down.

This is the default screen you see when initially powering
up the meter. The signal strength is from one selected
channel only. The higher the numerical (and bar value)
strength, the better the signal. Keep in mind that the
displayed strength is a reference number for alignment
purposes only. The objective is to obtain the highest
number possible.

The meter can display the relative signal strength of six
different channels at one time and retain the maximum
level attained on each channel. The display is not quite as
detailed as the SINGLE CH MEASUREMENT but is very
handy for comparative strength when you know which
channels you are shooting for. Each channel is
individually selectable, see “SELECT CHANNELS” in the
following menu discussions. The channel number
selected is shown below each bar. The number (1) in the
upper right corner advises this is page number 1 of 3
possible pages retained in the memory of the DIGIAIR.

This selection presents all the detected channels at one
time. Each channel detected is represented by a single
vertical line on the meter, extending above the ‘noise’ or
‘grass’ line of the spectrum. You will observe the sweep
timing of the meter in this grass area as a blanked out
scrolling line progressing across the screen. The relative
strength of each channel can be read by moving the
dashed lubber line (press the “UP” or “OFF/DOWN buttons)
across the screen and parking the lubber line over the
desired channel.
Channel strength is detected and registered each time the
sweep passes the channel. No indication of signal
strength change will be noted between the sweeps.

The DIGIAIR has a built-in tone generator which can be
activated from the main menu. Place the arrowhead
selector next to the ‘SOUND ON/OFF’ text and press the
‘ON/MENU’ button. You will note the appearance of a
sound icon on the SINGLE CH MEASUREMENT screen and
will hear the tone. To turn the tone ‘off’, select the same
text on the main menu and press the ‘ON’MENU’ button
one more time. The icon will disappear and the tone will
cease. Sound ‘ON’
A small antenna pre-amp can be powered by the internal
battery of the DIGIAIR as long as the current demand is
less than 50mA at 12VDC. To provide power out the
‘ANTENNA’ connector, select ‘ANTENNA POWER ON/OFF’
with the arrowhead and press the ‘ON/MENU’ button. The
power icon will appear at the bottom of the SINGLE CH
MEASUREMENT screen. To turn the power off, reverse the
procedure and the icon will disappear. If the pre-amp
draws more than 50mA, refer to the last page for an
alternative hookup layout.

This allows you to program the channels you want to
appear at the bottom of the ‘VIEW SIX CHANNELS’ screen.
You can select six channels per page, and you have the
option of utilizing three different pages.
This is a two-screen stepped procedure. First, pick
“SELECT CHANNELS’with the arrowhead pointer and press
‘ON/MENU’. The screen at the right will appear. Move the
arrowhead down to the bar you wish to modify as I have
done here - now it is on PAGE 1 BAR 1 - press the ‘ON/MENU’
button and a second screen will appear.
This second screen allows you to select the specific
channel you want on page number 1, bar number 1. Scroll
down the channels to the one you want and press the
‘ON/MENU’ button, in this case I have selected channel
number 4 for my first bar. The screen will jump back to
the first screen. Scroll up with the arrowhead pointer to
the word ‘EXIT’and press the ‘ON/MENU’button.
Now when you select ‘VIEW SIX CHANNELS’ you will see
the first bar indicates that channel 4 is being graphed on
page number 1. There are three pages you can program in
the same fashion.
Access the three pages from the ‘VIEW SIX CHANNELS’
screen by pressing the ‘OFF/DOWN’ button, this will scroll
through the pages.

Use this illustrated alternate connection method layout if your
amplified antenna requires more than 50mAof current, or any
other voltage. The menu selection “ANTENNA POWER” should be
‘off’ so the meter can sense the VHF/UHF channels without
being utilized as a power supply.
The power passing splitter indicated in this drawing is provided
with your meter.
The DigiAir internal battery can provide
12VDC at less than 50mA to power a small antenna
pre-amp. To turn this power feature ‘on’ select “ANTENNA

icon will appear on the startup screen next to the battery
symbol.
The DIGIAIR is warranted against manufacturers defects for a period of one year from date of purchase. We will ask
for proof of purchase so please KEEPYOUR RECEIPT. .
