Super Audio CD
The f t re in digital so nd reprod ction is no longer
limited to a close approach of reality. The new a dio
standard ís reality! The h man ear is no longer capable
of disting ishing a dible reality from digital reprod ction.
At Philips the f t re starts today with the SACD 1000
S per A dio Compact Disc player. This S per A dio CD
player combines s perior so nd q ality with the
possibility to play almost all existing a dio and video
formats with one player. Yo r precio s CD collection
will keep its val e!
The S per A dio standard is based on Direct Stream
Digital (DSD) technology. This new direct-stream digital
format comprises a 1-bit system, that has a digital
sampling freq ency 64 times higher than that of
conventional a dio CD. The res lts are spectac lar: a
freq ency response of over 50k Hz and a 120 dB
dynamic range over the entire a dible spectr m. Mixed
with as many of the original freq encies as possible the
a dio information, a dible for h man ears, so nds m ch
more nat ral.
All a dible freq encies are after all embedded in the
freq ency range as emitted by the so nd so rce. A
better reprod ction does not exist! For the first time
yo r ears will relive reality.
The next standard: hybrid disc
The S per A dio CD is the evol tion of CD that
provides ltra-high q ality so nd. Additional feat res like
m lti-channel can be offered. On the high density (HD)
S per A dio CD yo may have access to separate areas,
containing two-channel stereo and m lti-channel.
B t that is not all! The hybrid version of the SACD disc
g arantees backward compatibility with the installed base
of CD and DVD players. The hybrid disc contains,
besides the HD layer, a standard density CD layer with
conventional two-channel stereo CD a dio information.
The two layers are read from the same side of the disc.
The HD layer is read by a DVD laser. The bottom
reflective layer with conventional CD so nd, is read by
the CD laser thro gh the second, semi-transmissive HD
layer.

and vision
The SACD 1000 will not only s rprise yo with its
s perior reprod ction of almost all existing a dio
formats. Connected to yo r TV yo r SACD 1000
presents VCD and DVD video information as perfect
digital st dio-q ality pict res with tr ly 3-dimensional
digital m lti-channel a dio. Story seq ences can be
screened from yo r own choice of camera angle. Yo
can break down lang age barriers with so nd tracks in
as many as eight lang ages, pl s - if available on disc - as
many as 16 s btitles. Video becomes a new experience.
And that makes the SACD 1000 an essential component
in a state of the art a dio-video config ration.
Super Audio CD
Yo will recognise S per A dio CDs by
the logo. There are three types of
S per A dio CDs: single layer, d al
layer and hybrid discs. Each type may
contain two areas of recorded information. A High
Q ality Stereo area and a High Q ality M lti-channel
area.
- The single layer disc may contain both information
areas.
- The d al layer disc may contain both information areas
b t a do ble amo nt of information can be stored on
the disc beca se of the second layer.
- The hybrid disc may not only contain both information
areas b t also a second, standard CD layer which makes
it playable on standard CD players.
Recorded information may vary per area. This is
indicated in the disc inlay. Areas can be selected
separately before or d ring playback. When playing
S per A dio CDs the player can be operated via the
keys on the player front and the remote control or via
the On Screen Display on yo r TV.
