1 Getting Started
1.1 Understandin Hardware Features
Front Components
Ref Component Description

Touch Screen Displays the output of your device. Touch the screen with
your fingertip to select menu commands or enter
information.

Bluetooth
Indicator Flashes in blue to indicate that Bluetooth is on. The Bluetooth is always on when your device is turned on.

Map Button Opens the Map screen.

In Phone Menu:
Scrolls through the Bluetooth menu buttons by rotating the
wheel.
Selects the highlighted item by pressing in the wheel.

Scroll Wheel
In the MP3 screen:
Adjusts the volume by rotating the wheel.

Menu Button Opens the Main Menu by pressing briefly.
Back Components
Ref Component Description

Speaker For voice prompts, system operation tone, and hands free
dial voice.

External GPS
Antenna This connector (under rubber dust cover) allows use of an external GPS antenna (not available through Pioneer),
which may be positioned on top of the car for better signal
reception in areas with poor reception. Contact Pioneer
Support for recommendations on available third party
products.

Reset Button Restarts your device (soft reset).

TMC Car Cradle
Connector Connects to the optional TMC Car Cradle for receiving TMC (Traffic Message Channel) information.

ON/OFF Switch The main power/battery cutoff switch.
Ri ht-Side Components
Ref Component Description

SD Slot Accepts an SD (Secure Digital) card for future map and
software upgrades.

Mini-USB
Connector Connects to the AC adapter or USB cable.

Headphone
Connector Connects to stereo headphones.

Top Components
Ref Component Description

Power Button Turns the device on and off by pressing for at least 2
seconds.
Glows bright amber to indicate that the battery is charging,
and turns green when the battery is fully charged.

Microphone For Bluetooth hands-free calling.

1.2 Connectin to AC Power and Char in the
Battery
You are recommended to fully charge your device before using it for the very
first time.
1. Connect the AC adapter cable to the mini-USB connector on your device.
2. Connect one end of the power cable to the AC adapter and the other end to a
wall outlet.
The power indicator glows amber when charging is in progress. Do not
disconnect your device from AC power until the battery is fully charged. The
power indicator will turn green. This will take a couple of hours.
CAUTION: For optimal performance of the lithium battery, take note of the followin :
 Do not char e the battery where the temperature is hi h (e. . in direct sunli ht).
 There is no need to fully dischar e the battery before char in . You can char e the
battery before it is dischar ed.
 If you will not use the product for a lon period of time, be sure to fully char e the
battery at least once every two weeks. Over dischar e of the battery can affect the
char in performance.

1.3 Performin the Initial Startup
1. Slide the ON/OFF switch to the ON position.
2. Your device turns on and prompts you to select the language. Select the
desired language and tap OK . Your device restarts and guides you through
the rest of the initial startup settings.
3. The Main Menu appears.

1.4 Turnin Your Device On and Off
Press and hold the power button for at least 2 seconds to turn on and off your
device.
When you press the power button to turn off the unit, your device actually enters
into a suspend stateand the systemstops operating. Once you turn on the system
again, it resumes from the same guidance or menu screen you left off at.
1.5 Main Menu
The Main Menu is your starting place for various tasks. Tap a button to start a
task or open another menu. (For information on the GPS navigation software,
see the “Operation Manual.”)
You can access the Main Menu at any time by pressing the MENU button on
your device.

1.6 Navi atin on the Screen
To navigate and select objects on the screen, simply use your finger and touch
the screen. The following are possible via touch screen:
 Tap
Touch the screen once with your finger to
open items or select options.
 Drag
Hold your finger on the screen and drag
up/down/left/right or across the screen.
 Tap and hold
Tap and hold your finger until an action is
complete, or a result or menu is shown.

1.7 Usin a SD Card
NOTE: Make sure that no forei n objects enter the slot.
Your device has a SD slot where you can insert an Secure Digital storage card
for future software and application upgrades sold by Pioneer. To use a SD card,
insert it into the slot, with the connector pointing to the slot and its label facing
the front of the device.
To remove a card, first make sure that no application is accessing the card, and
then slightly push the top edge of the card to release it and then pull it out of the
slot.

2 Bluetooth HF Phone
2.1 About Bluetooth HF Phone
Your device can serve as a hands-free (HF) device for a Bluetooth mobile
phone. After establishing the Bluetooth connection, you can tap your device to
place and receive phone calls instead of picking up the mobile phone, and the
built-in speakers and microphone can also be used for your conversation.
2.2 Connectin a Bluetooth Mobile Phone
To connect with a Bluetooth mobile phone for the first time:
1. Initiate the Bluetooth searching process on your mobile phone. You should
see “Pioneer AVIC-S2” in the device list after searching is completed.
2. Select “Pioneer AVIC-S2” to create the connection. Use the 0000 default
passkey to connect.
3. Your AVIC-S2 can now serve as a hands-free device for your mobile
phone.

2.3 Startin Bluetooth Mobile Phone
1. Tap Bluetooth on the Main Menu.
2. The Bluetooth HF Phone main screen appears. The status bar at the bottom
shows the name of the mobile phone connected.
2.4 Placin a Call
After pairing with your mobile phone, you can place a call using any of the four
buttons ( Keypad , Contacts , Call History , and
Redial ) on the Bluetooth HF Phone main screen.

Keypad
By tapping the Keypad button on the Bluetooth HF Phone main screen,
you can enter the telephone number with the onscreen keypad. After entering
the telephone number, tap to place the call.
NOTE:
 To delete the last di it entered, tap the Backspace button.
 The other two buttons allow you to switch to Contacts and Call
History screens.
Contacts
You can transfer contact data of your Bluetooth devices via OPP (Object Push
Profile). As long as you have sent such information to your device, the
information is available in Bluetooth HP Phone.
To call a contact, tap the Contacts button on the Bluetooth HF Phone
main screen.

Tap the desired contact and the phone number list appears. Tap the phone
number to call and tap to call the selected phone number.
Call History
NOTE: Bluetooth HF hone cannot access the call history stored in a connected mobile
phone.
Tap the Call History button on the Bluetooth HF Phone main screen to
display the recent incoming, outgoing, or missed calls together with information
such as date, time, and duration of each call.
