!To avoid the risk of accident and the potential
violation of applicable laws, the front DVD or
TV (sold separately) feature should never be
used while the vehicle is being driven. Also,
rear displays should not be in a location
where it is a visible distraction to the driver.
!In some countries or states the viewing of
images on a display inside a vehicle even by
persons other than the driver may be illegal.
Where such regulations apply, they must be
obeyed.
This unit detects whether your vehicles park
ing brake is engaged or not, and prevents you
from watching a DVD or TV on the front dis
play while driving. When you attempt to watch
a DVD or TV, the warning VIDEO VIEWING IS
NOT AVAILABLE WHILE DRIVING will appear
on the front display.
Parking brake interlo k
Certain functions offered by this unit could be
dangerous and/or unlawful if used while driv
ing. To prevent such functions from being
used while the vehicle is in motion, there is an
interlock with the vehicles parking brake. If
you attempt to use these functions while driv
ing, they may be inoperable.

To watch a video source such as DVD or TV on
the front seat display, park your vehicle in a
safe place, apply the parking brake, release
the parking brake, and then apply the parking
brake again. When performing the above se
quence with the parking brake (apply release
apply), keep the brake pedal pushed down be
fore releasing the parking brake if the vehicle
is parked on a hill or otherwise might move
when releasing the parking brake.
WARNING
!When applying, releasing and applying the
parking brake in order to view video source or
to enable other functions offered by this unit,
park your vehicle in a safe place, and keep the
brake pedal pushed down before releasing the
parking brake if the vehicle is parked on a hill

When using a display
onne ted to REAR OUT
This unitsREAR OUT is for connection of a
display to enable passengers in the rear seats
to watch the DVD or TV.
WARNING
NEVER install the rear display in a location that
enables the driver to watch the DVD or TV while
driving.
To avoid battery exhaustion
Be sure to run the vehicle engine while using
this unit. Using this unit without running the
engine can result in battery drainage.
WARNING
Do not use with vehicles that do not feature an
ACC position.

DVD video dis region numbers
DVD video discs that have incompatible region
numbers cannot be played on this player. The
region number of the player can be found on
the bottom of this unit.
The illustration below shows the regions and
corresponding region numbers.
When ombined with a Pioneer
navigation unit
When you use this unit with the Pioneer DVD
navigation unit, make sure that you use the
map disc CNDV 21 or later. This manual ex
plains the operations with the combined use
of them.
If you do not use the map disc CNDV 21 but
use an older version with the navigation unit,
this unit may have some failures or inconve
niences as follows:
!ENTERTAINMENT button and WIDE button
cannot function as NAVI MENU button
and NAVI button.
!NAVI (navigation unit), such as DVD video
from the combined Pioneer navigation unit
with DVD video playback, cannot be se
lected as a source.
!In NAVI MIXING, the settings other than
ALL cannot be selected.
!Voice recognition control system of the
combined Pioneer navigation unit cannot
function properly. The voice operation for
navigation can be used, but the voice op
eration related to AV equipment cannot be
used.

!Route guidance of the combined Pioneer
navigation unit cannot function properly
when some other source images are dis
played. uidance by voice can be obtained,
but on guidance by display (e.g. switching

!Do not allow direct sunlight to fall on the
display when this unit is not being used.
Extended exposure to direct sunlight can
result in LCD screen malfunction due to
the resulting high temperatures.
!When using a portable phone, keep the an
tenna of the portable phone away from the
display to prevent disruption of the video by
the appearance of spots, colored stripes,
etc.
For viewing LCD omfortably
Due to its construction, the view angle of the
LCD screen is limited. The viewing angle (verti
cal and horizontal) can be increased, however,
by using BRIGHT to adjust the black density of
the video. When using for the first time, adjust
the black density in accordance with the view
ing angle (vertical and horizontal) to adjust for
clear viewing. DIMMER can also be used to
adjust the brightness of the LCD screen itself
to suit your personal preference.
Condition memory
This function memorizes audio language, sub
title language, angle number and aspect ratio
made during disc playback for up to 30 discs.
Without any special operations, the final set
ting details during playback of a disc are mem
orized. The next time a disc is played, the
previous settings are automatically applied.
!With some discs, audio language and sub
title language are automatically specified,
in which case condition memory does not
function.
!When the number of discs exceeds 30, set
tings for the latest disc replace those for
the least recent disc.
What the marks on DVDs

The marks below may be found on DVD disc
labels and packages. They indicate the type of
images and audio recorded on the disc, and
the functions you can use.

When an operation is prohibited
When you are watching a DVD and attempt to
perform an operation, it may not be performed
because of the programming on the disc.
When this happens, the icon appears on
the screen.
!The icon may not appear with certain
discs.
Resetting the mi ropro essor
Pressing RESET lets you reset the micropro
cessor to its initial settings without changing
the condition memory.
The microprocessor must be reset under the
following conditions:
!Prior to using this unit for the first time
after installation
!If the unit fails to operate properly
!When strange or incorrect messages ap
pear on the display
1 Turn the ignition s itch OFF.
2 Press RESET ith a pen tip or other
pointed instrument.

!When using with a Pioneer navigation unit, if
you press RESET, be sure ACC OFF is se
lected. If ACC ON is selected, correct opera
tion may not be possible even if you press
RESET.
!After completing connections or when you
want to erase all memorized settings or return
the unit to its initial (factory) settings, switch
your engine ON or set the ignition switch to
ACC ON before pressing RESET.

Installing the battery
Slide the tray out on the back of the remote
control and insert the battery with the plus (+)
and minus () poles pointing in the proper di
rection.
!When using for the first time, pull out the
film protruding from the tray.
WARNING
Keep the battery out of the reach of children.
Should the battery be swallowed, immediately
consult a doctor.
CAUTION
!Use only one CR2025 (3 V) lithium battery.
!Remove the battery if the remote control is not
used for a month or longer.
!Do not recharge, disassemble, heat or dispose
of the battery in fire.
!Do not handle the battery with metallic tools.
!Do not store the battery with metallic materi
als.

!In the event of battery leakage, wipe the re
mote control completely clean and install a
new battery.
!When disposing of used batteries, please
comply with governmental regulations or en
vironmental public institutionsrules that
apply in your country/area.
Using the remote ontrol
Point the remote control in the direction of the
front panel to operate.
!The remote control may not function prop
erly in direct sunlight.
Important
!Do not store the remote control in high tem
peratures or direct sunlight.
!Do not let the remote control fall onto the
floor, where it may become jammed under the
brake or accelerator pedal.
About the SAT RADIO
READY mark
The SAT RADIO READY mark printed on the
front panel indicates that the Satellite Radio
Tuner for Pioneer (aka, XM tuner and Sirius sa
tellite tuner which are sold separately) can be
controlled by this unit. Please inquire to your
dealer or nearest authorized Pioneer service
station regarding the satellite radio tuner that
can be connected to this unit. For satellite
radio tuner operation, please refer to the satel
lite radio tuner owners manual.
Notes
!The system will use direct satellite to receiver
broadcasting technology to provide listeners
in their cars and at home with crystal clear
sound seamlessly from coast to coast. Satel
lite radio will create and package over 100
channels of digital quality music, news,
sports, talk and childrens programming.
!SAT Radio, the SAT Radio logo and all re
lated marks are trademarks of Sirius Satellite
Radio inc., and XM Satellite Radio Inc.
Feature demo
Important
The red lead (ACC) of this unit should be con
nected to a terminal coupled with ignition switch
on/off operations. If this is not done, the vehicle
battery may be drained.
The feature demo automatically starts when
power to this unit is turned off while the igni
tion switch is set to ACC or ON. Pressing and
holding ATT during feature demo operation
cancels the feature demo mode. Press and
hold ATT again to start the feature demo
mode. Remember that if the feature demo
continues operating when the car engine is
turned off, it may drain battery power.

3Ambient light sensor
Senses ambient light. This system automati
cally adjusts the brightness of the display to
compensate for ambient light.
4FLIP DOWN/CLOCK button
Press to turn the LCD panel horizontal tem
porarily from upright position.
Press to display the clock for eight seconds
when the LCD panel is closed.
5OPEN/CLOSE button
Press to open or close the LCD panel.
6ENTERTAINMENT button
Press to switch between the background
displays.
7WIDE button
Press to select a desired mode for enlarging
a 4:3 picture to a 16:9 one.
8MENU button
Press and hold to display the picture adjust
ment menu.
9RESET button
Press to return to the factory settings (initial
settings).

Press to remove the front panel from the
head unit.

Press to eject a disc from this unit.

There are three remote control operation
modes on the remote control.
AVH mode operation
When operating this unit by remote control,
the mode is normally switched to AVH.
!The joystick on the remote control can per

the head unit. Furthermore, the joystick
can perform the same operations as the
touch panel keys a,b,cand d.

If you want to select a disc located at 7
to 12 by using buttons 16, press and
hold the corresponding numbers, such
as 1for disc 7, until the disc number ap

DVD mode operation
If you switch the mode to DVD, the joystick
and 010 operations are changed for DVD
player.

When switching the mode to DVD, you cannot
use these buttons; BACK,ENTERTAINMENT,

TV mode operation
If you use the rear output on TV tuner, you can
watch the TV picture on the rear display inde
pendently. To operate the TV on the rear dis
play independently, switch the mode to TV.In
this case, the joystick operation is changed for
TV.
!For details concerning operation, refer to
the TV tuners operation manuals.

1Source icon
Shows which source has been selected.
You can select a source you want to listen to. If
DVD AUTO PLAY is turned on, load a disc in
the unit to switch to DVD (refer to Switching
the automatic disc playback on page 90).

desired source name.
The source names are displayed and select
able ones are highlighted.

!In the following cases, the sound source will
not change:
When there is no unit corresponding to the
selected source connected to this unit.
When there is no disc in the unit.

When the AUX (auxiliary input) is set to off
(refer to page 89).

!External unit refers to a Pioneer product (such
as one available in the future) that, although
incompatible as a source, enables control of
basic functions by this unit. Two external units
can be controlled by this unit. When two exter
nal units are connected, the allocation of
them to external unit 1 or external unit 2 is
automatically set by this unit.
!When this units blue lead is connected to the
cars auto antenna relay control terminal, the
cars antenna extends when this units se
lected source is the tuner. To retract the anten
na, switch to a source other than the tuner.
