the safety instructions before starting the operating procedures.
To ensure a correct and safe use, the operator of this unit must follow all the information
and warnings contained in this document.
This equipment has been designed in accordance with safety requirements EN61010 and
is marked with the CE mark that guarantees compliance with European directives.
ELECTRICAL SYMBOL EXPLANATION
Do not remove the cap to avoid the risk of electric shock. Inside
the Instrument there are no areas on which the operator could
intervene in case of failure. Any possible reparation can be
performed only by qualified personnel .
Read the operating manual and instructions, see the symbols
relating to security
This symbol indicates that the product at the end of its useful life
must be collected separately from other waste. The operator must
therefore send the equipment to the appropriate centers for
collection of electronic and electrotechnical waste
NOTE: the symbol note highlights important information
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

INSTRUCTIONS AND GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS ON SAFETY
The symbol ATTENTION highlights the presence of a potential danger
.ATTENTION: personal injuries. All the indication contained in this
manual must be fully acquired and understood before proceeding .
This instrument has been designed and constructed in Italy and fully
complies with security requirements required by law.
To maintain the unit in a safe state and to ensure risk-free operations,
the following instructions must be examined and fully understood
before beginning the procedure works:
Overload:
Do not overload wall outlet, Extension cords or adapters, as this could
cause fire or electric shock.
Liquids:
Keep liquids away from the instrument and do not place objects
containing liquids on or near to it.
Connections:
Always use the recommended connections in order to avoid danger or
damage.
Positioning:
On site installation :
a)Place the instrument in the appropriate sealed box to avoid that it
could be exposed to lightning, rain or sun light. If the box should be
selected metallic material, make sure that the connection has been
made for grounding of the metallic casing
b)Do not place the instrument near radiators or other heat sources
c)Make sure that the instrument is at least 200 cm from other
equipment sensitive to magnetic interference, like TV or VRC.
d)Do not place the instrument on trolleys, stands, tripod, bracket, or
unstable table, from which it could fall. A fall can cause injury or
substantial damage to the instrument
e)Do not place the instrument near other power lines; the connection
cables with sensors must be shielded and placed at a distance of not
less than 200 cm from other power cables.
External Bodies:
Do not introduce external objects through cracks and openings in the
instruments, as they may touch under voltage parts or damage
sensitive components

Instruments and System for Geotechnical and Structural Monitoring
User manual / DEC 3000
REV. 01 01 2020 6/29
Replacement of components:
a)In case of necessity, you have to ensure that the replacement
of components will be performed by authorized and trained
personnel which will used the original components or otherwise
having the same characteristics as the original. Unauthorized
use of not suitable parts may cause further damage.
b)All maintenance must be performed by qualified technical
personnel.
c)Before any installation, maintenance or intervention on the
instrument make sure that the switch is off. Some components
may be energized and an inadvertent contact with them could
damage the equipment in addition to causing serious damage
to the person.
d)Do not remove the cap, to avoid the risk of electric shock.
Inside the instrument not there are no areas on which the
operator could intervene in case of failure. A possible repair
can be performed by qualified personnel only .
Do not work if the instrument is switched on:
a) Risk of electric shock that can cause serious personal injury
and damage to the instrument.
b) Inside the feeder, during the usual operating conditions, there
are dangerous tension levels and components that store a
substantiall quantity of energy. These components are however
inaccessible. A hazardous intervention on the instruments could
provoke electrical shocks or permanent damages to the feeder.
Attention:
- Do not open the instrument, do not touch the internal parts or
components on the cards, because they might be in tension.
- Do not insert metal or flammable objects inside the
instrument.
- Do not touch the feeder with damp hands
- Keep the module away from heat sources
- Do not use the equipment in case of failure since the use of a
defective instrument can cause more damage. Contact us to
solve the problem.

User manual / DEC 3000
REV. 01 01 2020 7/29
1 GENERAL INFORMATION
DEC3000 is a portable datalogger that allows to carry out the manual measurements
with almost all sensors for static structural and geo-technical controls, present today in the
market.
DEC 3000 is able to memorize the detected data, that could be download from serial port
by an external laptop and to show the same on display or during the acquisition phase or
upon request.
The portable unit DEC 3000 is able to carry out the manual reading of a single channel
and, consequently of a single instrument and also offers a lot of other opportunities; it is
possible to configure and memorize the classic parameters for every kind of sensor
(Offset, K, alarm thresholds), to assign to a specific instrument a determined channel; it is
also possible to configure some measuring group setting for each channel the specific
parameters of every sensor; in particular situation, when, for example, the unit is used as
an automatic acquisition unit, it is foreseen the possibility to set some temporization for the
channel interrogation or of the groups of the configured sensors.
1.1 Introduction
The DEC3000 is a portable datalogger complete with internal battery and battery charger.
These are the main functional and operating characteristics of the product:
-Possibility to configure the system and the single channels with the typical
parameters of every single sensor;
-Presentation of the measures detected on digital display and at the same time the
memorization on static memory;
-Availability of RS232 –RS485 communication ports or of other of standard type;
-Availability of self-test to the whole acquisition system and of control of some
sensors
1.2 The supply includes:
-DEC3000 - Portable Datalogger complete with internal battery and external battery
charger
-User Manual

2. INSTALLATION
2.1 Packing/Unpacking
Check that the transport packing of the instrument is not damaged. If damaged, please
retain it until you have completely controlled the state of each accessory and functionality,
both mechanic and electronic of the instrument.
For a proper unpacking of the instrument, follow the instructions below:
Make transportation sustaining the inferior part
Open the external carton packing Remove the protective material
Remove the instrument and holding it in vertical position.
After unpacking the instrument, check the correspondence between checklist (see "Articles
of instrument") and the provided material, documentation included.
2.2 Preparation for the use
The portable acquisition unit DEC3000 is supplied with a not charged battery. It is
necessary to charge the battery for at least 24 hours. It is advisable to use the unit only
when there is a charge greater than the 30%.
Do not fully discharge the battery, by this way the battery could be
irremediably damaged.

5. CONFIGURATION
5.1 Automatic Acquisition (in case of the use of the read out unit in an automatic
acquisition system
)
From the main menu, positioning the “indicator arrow” on ACQUISITION and pressing the
Key “E” on the display the following window appears:
With the meaning, known, of the various messages.
At the hour HH:MM of the day AA/BB/CC, the system executes the pre-set measure cycle.
During the temporized acquisition the following window appears:
In the first line there is the number that indicates the instrument group during the
acquisition phase and in the second line there is the number of channel correspondent to
the single instrument interrogated in this moment.
In the following lines there will be rapidly showed, for the different interrogated
instruments, both the measure value and the eventual detected alarms.
NOTE: the temporized acquisition will be executed only if we are in the
ACQUISITION; if the measure period falls in a moment in which we are
working on other functions, the acquisition won't be carried out.
Once achieved the acquisition, the following window will appear :
where XXX(YZ) that could be repeated more times with different values for XXX and also
for Y and Z (that however could remain the same) and it has the following meaning :
XXX = number of interested channel
Y = first alarm code
Z = second alarm code
in case of single alarm one of the two numbers will be the "zero".
