Highlights important information
The Caution Symbol highlights the presence of a potential danger.
CAUTION: of instrument damage. All conditions specified in the associated text must be
fully known and understood before proceeding
This symbol indicates that the product at the end of its useful life must be collected
separately from other waste. The operator must therefore send the equipment to the
appropriate centers for collection of electronic and electrotechnical waste
1. Introduction
This instrument is used for the measurement of water levels in wells or in piezometric pipes.
The instrument is easy to use and has a rugged and robust design.
The principle of measurement is simple; an electric cable with two conductors is lowered into a well or
borehole until it enters into contact with the water surface to be measured.
On the head is the probe which acts as a weighting body for the cable and the element that touches the
water.
Once contact has occurred, the water short circuits the two final pins of the probe.
This short circuit is detected by an acoustic device with suitable battery located at the other end of the cable,
housed in the cable reel.
The connection cable is inextensible and graduated in centimeters (or in millimeters for the model with flat
cable tape).
When the probe head enters into contact with the water, an acoustic signal warns the operator and at that
moment, it is possible to detect by direct reading of the cable, the depth at which contact occurred,
determining the depth of the water surface and thus its level.
2. Initial Inspection
All the instruments have been carefully inspected, both mechanically and electrically, before they leave the
factory.
Please check if all received items correspond with the packing list, your order confirmation and if the list of
components (chapter 4.1) corresponds to the material effectively present.
In case of discrepancy, please contact Pizzi Instruments or your local Representative.
NOTE: All instruments are thoroughly checked both electrically and mechanically before leaving the
factory.

2.1 Damage during shipment
If requested at the moment of the order, all instruments can be insured prior to shipment. If you receive a
damaged shipment and shipping insurance was previously arranged you should:
Report the damage to your shipper immediately
Inform Pizzi Instruments or your local representative immediately
Keep all packaging and shipping documents
NOTE: All shipments must immediately opened upon delivery and the content must be
checked, in quality and quantity, on the base of the packing list sent together with the goods.
No claims for shortages, damages or errors will be considered valid if no writing form to our
office within 3 days of receipt of goods will be sent.
Attention: insurance claims may be void if the above procedure is not followed.
3. Storage
Keep the material in a proper site to avoid its deterioration before the installation and to protect it
from any possibility of shocks.
Do not place weights on top of the instrumentation
Do not store the equipment in places where it could cause damage to persons or property
Be careful during the storage not to bend or crush the steel parts
4. Description
4.1 Instrument Components
The system includes :
A probe provided with two contacts in conductive material insulated by a special drip edge.
An additional head for the weighting of the probe.
An inextensible cable with flat or round shape (flat with millimeter or centimeter graduation,
according to model).
The model with flat cable has a maximum external diameter of 12 mm and can be used together with all
piezometric pipes normally in use.
Smaller diameter head(10mm) can only be supplied with the circular cable model.

5. Preliminary requirements
Before using the instrument, it is a good rule to check the suitable conditions in the area where the
instrument is used.
A very important procedure for the correct use and the following operation of the instrument is the elimination
of any deposits of any material both on the probe head and on the cable.
6.1 Preliminary Operations
Check the correct operation of the instrument by setting the switch on "ON" position and immerse the head in
a container with water, if everything properly works you will hear the "beep" and the "LED" will light up; failure
to operate may depend either on damage to the cable or on the exhaustion of the battery ("9V") housed on
the front panel.
7. Taking Measure
1. Lower the head into the hole where the measurement is to be made, on contact with the water the
instrument will emit a "beep" and the "LED" will light up.
2. Raise the probe until the sound stops and then re-trace it again to find the contact point for subsequent
approximations
3. Read the measurement directly on the cable and write it down on a previously prepared table
4. At the end of the measurements, clean the instrument and check it again.
8. Technical Assistance
