1. Thiscamera requires twoAA alkaline batteriesfor normal cameraoperation, and one
CR2025lithiumbattery topower the camera’sdateback.
2. Closelysupervisechildren whenthe cameraisoperated bythem orused intheirpresence.
Toavoid electricalshock,the camerashouldnot beexposedto orimmersedin wateror
other fluids, disassembled, or operated if dropped or damaged. For repair information,
contactaPolaroid ServiceCenter.
3. Whenthebatteries aredepleted,discard or recyclethem in accordancewith local or
nationalenvironmentalrequirements, andwherenoted, withthebattery manufacturer’s
instructions. Replaceonly withbatteriesof thesame type(e.g.,AA alkalineor CR2025
lithium);DO NOTUSENiCd rechargeablebatteries.
CAUTION
DUE TO THE RISK OF EXPLOSION, DO NOT RECHARGE,
MUTILATE OR INCINERATE BATTERIES.
Camera Batteries
Loading the Alkaline Batteries
1. Makesurethe lenscover(8) isclosed
sothatall camerapoweris off.
2. Openthebatterycompartmentcover
(19) bypressing it inan outward
directionandpivoting itupwards
(Fig.2).
3. Insertthebatteries, makingsurethat
the(+ ) and(– ) signsoneach battery
arealignedaccording tothe polarity
symbolsshown insidethe
compartmentcover (19)(Fig.3).
4. Closethecompartment coverby
slidingit untilit latches.

Replacing the Lithium Battery
Replacethe lithiumbatterywhen thedate ortime isdim orwashedout onyour pictures.
Thelithium batteryhas anexpected lifeofaboutthreeyears.
Setting the Film Speed
Cameraautomaticallysets thecorrect film speedby reading theblack and silverDX-coded
patternon thefilm cartridge.
Note: Donotuse slide film. For bestresults,use Polaroid Color Printfilms.
Loading the Film
1. Slidethelens coverswitch(10)toturn
onthe camera.
2. Slidetheback coverlatch(11)to
opentheback cover(16)(Fig.4).
3. Insertfilminto filmchamber,placefilm
leaderontake-up spool(15)to the
film tip indicator (Fig. 5).
Note: Make sure the film lies flat
betweenthe filmguides,
andthat thesprocket teeth
engagethe filmperforations.
4. Presstheback covershutso thatthe
backcover latchreturnsto itsoriginal
position.Youcan alwaysbe surethat
thereisfilm inthecamera by looking
throughthe filmcheckwindow (17)
(Fig.6).
5. Presstheshutter releasebutton (1)
severaltimes untilthe“1” appearsin
the filmcounter window(6). The
cameraisthen readyfor you totake a
picture.
Note: Besure thepinwheel inthefilm
counterwindow isrotating. This
ensuresthe filmis advancingproperly.
Ifpinwheel isnot rotating,reload film.

Holding the Camera (Fig. 7)
1. Alwaysuseboth handstosteadyyour
camera.
2. Takepicture withsunlightbehind you.
3. Whenholdingthecameravertically,
alwaysposition itwiththe flashat the
top.
4. Becarefulnot toplaceyourfingers
overthe lens(9),the flash(7),the
auto-flashsensor (5),orthe
auto-focuswindows(2).
Taking Pictures
1. Turn onthe camerapower andopen
thelens cover(8)bysliding thelens
coverswitch (10). Be surethelens
coverisopened completely(Fig. 8).
Note: Auto-flashis designedintothis
camera. Ifadditionallight is
needed,theflashwillturnon
automaticallywhile apicture is
taken.
2. Framethesubjectsthrough the
viewfindereyepiece(14). Makesure
allyour subjectsarewithinthebright
framemarked onthe viewfinder. (The
camerawill focuson subjectsfrom
1.3m(4ft.)toinfinity.)

3. Pressthe shutterrelease button (1)
gentlyandsmoothlyhalfway;the
red-eyereduction light(4)willcome
onto reducethe red-eyeeffecton the
pictureswhen flashisused (Fig.9).
Continueto pressthe shutterrelease
buttonall thewaydowntorelease the
shutterto takeapicture. The camera
automaticallywinds thefilm toprepare
forthenext picture.
Note: To getbetterred-eye
reductioneffect,holding the
shutterreleasebuttonhalf
wayfor atleastone second
isrecommended.
4. Whenflash isneededfor a
photograph,wait forthe greenflash
readylight (13)to comeon. It takes
approximately6 secondsfor theflash
tocharge whenfreshbatteries are
used(Fig.10). While flashisstill
charging,the greenready light(13)
willnot beon.
Picture Distance Range
Daylightdistance range:4’(1.3m) toinfinity.
Flashdistance range:
ISO 100/21° 4’ (1.3m) – 10’ (3.0m)
ISO 200/24° 4’ (1.3m) – 12’ (3.6m)
ISO 400/27° 4’ (1.3m) – 16’ (5.0m)
Note: Whentaking pictures,avoidaiming cameratoward directsunlight.

•Abatterypower savingdevice is designedinto this camera. Ifthe camera isleft unused for
approximately3 minutes,the flashcharge willstop automaticallyto savebattery powerand
thereadylightwillturnoff.
•Pressthe shutterreleasebutton halfwaydown torecoverflashcharging.
Auto Power Saving System
Auto-Focus/Focus Lock
1. Presstheshutterreleasebuttonhalf
waydown andholditthere;the lens
willbeset tothe correct focusposition
automaticallyaccording tothe
distancemeasured bythe system(the
red-eyereduction lightwillalso turn
on).
2. You maylock thefocus positionby
holdingtheshutterreleasebutton
halfwaydown;youmaythenfurther
composeyour picturein the
viewfinder(Fig. 11).
Thiscamera isequippedwith aninfrared auto-focussystem thatmeasures thedistanceof
subjectsfrom thecamera andautomatically setsthelenstotheoptimumfocus forevery
photograph.
3. Continuetopress theshutter release
buttonall thewaydowntofinish taking
thepicture.
Setting the Date or Time
A date and time recorder, called a “date
back”,located ontheback cover, letsyou
addadate toyourphotograph, in aday/
month/yearformat (e.g.,October14,
1997 would be “14 10 97”), or a year/
month/dayformat (e.g.,October 14,1997
wouldbe “97 1014”). Youmay also
recordthe timeyou tookyour photo,
showninanhour/minuteformat.
Hoursare shownina continuouscycle
from1to 23, withnoreference to AMor
PM; so 9:30 AM would show as “9 – 30”,
while 9:30 PM would show as “21 – 30”.
Note: Whileyoumay addeither a date
ora time,you cannothaveboth
onthe samepicture.

Setting the Date or Time (con’t)
1. Pressthemode buttontoselect the
formatforadding eitherthe date orthe
time.
2. Pressthe“Y/H”button tochangethe
year(in the datemode format)orthe
hour(in thetimeformat).
3. Pressthe“M” buttonto changethe
monthin thedateformat.(The“M”
buttonis notused inthetimeformat.)
4. Pressthe“D/M” buttonto changethe
day(in thedate format)ortheminute
(inthe timeformat).
5. Toturn offthedate or timedisplay,
pressthe modeswitchuntil horizontal
lines appear (— - —). No date or time
willprintonyourphotograph.
Note: The date or time may be
washedoutwhenviewed
againstbright or orange
backgrounds.
Rewind the Film and Unload Film Cartridge
Oncethe endofthe filmis reached,the
filmwillnot advanceanyfurther.
1. Slidetherewind switch (21) untilit
clicksintoposition andthe film
automaticallyrewinds (Fig.12).
2. Afterthefilmisfullyrewound, the
motorwillstop, and“S” will beseen in
thefilmcounterwindow. Youmay
openthe backcoverand removethe
filmcartridge.
3. Ifyouwish torewind thefilm before
reachingthe endofthe roll,slide the
rewindswitch.
4. Becarefulnot totouchtheinnerlens
surfacewith yourfingers ortheedge
ofthe film.
5. Sendthefilm for processingassoon
as possible.

Caring for your Camera

puttingthe cameraawayto keepthe
lensfree of dustand dirtandto
preventaccidentalshutterrelease.
•Protectcamera fromrain,dampness
andhigh heataswell asdust anddirt.

Thewarranty doesnot coverdamage
