IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
This produ t was designed and manufa tured to meet stri t quality and safety standards.
There are, however, some installation and operation pre autions whi h you should
be parti ularly aware of.
1. Read Instru tions. All the safety and operating instru tions should
be read before the system is operated.
2. Retain Instru tions. The safety and operating instru tions should
be retained for future referen e.
3. Heed Warnings. All warnings on the applian es and in the operating
instru tions should be adhered to.
4. Follow Instru tions. All operating and use instru tions should be followed.
5. Cleaning. Unplug the applian e from wall outlet before leaning. Do not
use liquid leaners or aerosol leaners. Use a damp loth for leaning.
6. Atta hments. Do not use atta hments not re ommended by the produ t
manufa turer as they may ause hazards.
7. Water and Moisture. Do not use these applian es near water‹for example,
near a bath tub, washbowl, kit hen sink, or laundry tub, in a wet basement,
or near a swimming pool, and the like.
8. A essories. Do not pla e these applian es on an unstable art, stand, tripod, bra ket,
or table. The audio/video produ ts may fall, ausing serious injury to a hild or adult,
and serious damage to the produ ts. Use only with a art, stand, tripod, bra ket,
or table re ommended by the manufa turer, or sold with the applian es. Any mounting
of the applian es should follow the manufa turer’s instru tions, and should use mounting
aessories re ommended by the manufa turer.
9. Ventilation. Slots and openings in the abinet are provided for ventilation and to ensure
reliable operation of the applian es and to prote t them from overheating, and these openings
must not be blo ked or overed. The openings should never be blo ked by pla ing the produ ts
on a bed, sofa, rug, or other similar surfa e. This produ t should never be pla ed near or over
a radiator or heat register. This produ t should not be pla ed in a built-in installation su h
as a book ase or ra k unless proper ventilation is provided or the manufa turer’s instru tions
have been adhered to.
10. Power Sour es. This produ t should be operated only from the type of power sour e
indi ated on the marking labels. If you are not sure of the type of power supply to your
home, onsult your applian e dealer or lo al power ompany.
11. Grounding or Polarization. This produ t is equipped with polarized alternating- urrent
line plugs (plugs having one blade wider than the other). This plug will fit into the power
outlet only one way. This is a safety feature. If you are unable to insert the plug fully into
the outlet, try reversing the plug. If the plug should still fail to fit, onta t your ele tri ian
to repla e your obsolete outlet. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized plug.
12. Power Cord Prote tion. Power-supply ord should be routed so that it is not likely to be walked
on or pin hed by items pla ed upon or against it, paying parti ular attention to ords at plugs,
onvenien e re epta les, and the point where they exit from the applian es.
13. Lightning. For added prote tion for this audio/video produ t during a lightning storm,
or when it is left un-attended and unused for long periods of time, unplug it from
the wall outlet and dis onne t the antenna or able system. This will prevent damage
to the produ t due to lightning and power-line surges.
14. Power Lines. An outside antenna system should not be lo ated in the vi inity of overhead
power lines or other ele tri light or power ir uits, or where it an fall into su h power lines
or ir uits. When installing an outside antenna system, extreme are should be taken to keep
from tou hing su h power lines or ir uits as onta t with them might be fatal.
15. Overloading. Do not overload wall outlets and extension ords as this an result
in a risk of fire or ele tri sho k.
16. Obje t and Liquid Entry. Never push obje ts of any kind into this produ t through openings,
as they may tou h dangerous voltage points or short out parts that ould result in a fire
or ele tri sho k. Never spill liquid of any kind on this audio/video produ t.
17. Servi ing. Do not attempt to servi e this produ t yourself, as opening or removing
overs may expose you to dangerous voltage or other hazards. Refer all servi ing
to qualified servi e personnel.
18. Damage Requiring Servi e. Unplug this produ t from wall outlets and refer servi ing
to qualified servi e personnel under the following onditions:
a.When the power supply ord or plug is damaged.
b.If liquid has been spilled, or obje ts have fallen into the produ t.
.If the produ t has been exposed to rain or water.
d.If the produ t does not operate normally by following the operating instru tions. Adjust
only those ontrols that are overed by the operating instru tions, as an improper
adjustment of other ontrols may result in damage and will often require extensive
work by a qualified te hni ian to restore the produ t to its normal operation.

19. Repla ement Parts. When repla ement parts are required, be sure the servi e
te hni ian has used repla ement parts spe ified by the manufa turer or that
the parts have the same hara teristi s as the original part. Unauthorized
substitutions may result in fire, ele tri sho k or other hazards.

20. Safety Che k. Upon ompletion of any servi e or repairs to this produ t,
ask the servi e te hni ian to perform safety he ks to determine that
the produ ts are in proper operating ondition.
21. Carts and Stands. The applian es should be used only with a art or stand
that is re ommended by the manufa turer. An applian e and art ombina-
tion should be moved with are. Qui k stops, ex essive for e, and uneven
surfa es may ause the applian e and art ombination to overturn.
Use aution when moving the art/apparatus ombination to avoid
injury from tip-over.

so it will sit securely on ny fl t surf ce. Just center the b r
under your TV screen. If your TV is housed in medi center,
you c n pl ce the b r bove the TV.
If your TV is w ll mounted, the b r c n mount right bene th
it. The b r h s built-in keyhole slots th t m ke it e sy.
Note: The rubber feet re det ch ble nd m y be removed
entirely (for w ll-mounting the b r) or moved long the bottom
surf ce of the b r, depending upon your inst ll tion.

HO TO CONNECT YOUR BAR
This is re lly e sy too. You likely h ve m ny sources for your
udio sign l: your TV, your DVD pl yer, or c ble/s tellite box.
The b r is ble to ccept udio from up to three different sources.
The simplest ppro ch is to connect the optic l udio output of
your TV to the optic l input on the b ck of the b r. This method
will provide the highest qu lity udio reg rdless of whether you
re w tching TV or w tching your f vorite DVD.
If your TV does not h ve n optic l output, you c n use the optic l
output from your DVD pl yer or your c ble/s tellite box to connect
to the optic l input on the b r. Then simply use the other b r
inputs for your other udio sources.
SYNCING THE BAR AND IRELESS SUB OOFER
The SurroundB r 5000 b r nd wireless subwoofer come
from the f ctory preset to work together. If the wireless
subwoofer stops receiving n udio sign l, follow these
instructions to re-est blish the connection.
1. Turn off the subwoofer’s AC M ins switch.
2. Press nd hold the SYNC button on the b ck
of the b r for three (3) seconds.
3. The LED on the b ck of the b r will blink,
indic ting th t the b r nd the subwoofer
re re dy to be connected.
4. Turn on the subwoofer’s AC M ins switch. When
the subwoofer LED turns solid green the b r
nd subwoofer re connected nd re dy to use.

BLUETOOTH®IRELESS TECHNOLOGY
To use your Bluetooth wireless technology device
with the SurroundB r 5000, you must first p ir your
device with your SurroundB r.
P iring cre tes the bility of your Bluetooth device to connect
with your SurroundB r wirelessly. P iring is like h ndsh ke
between your Bluetooth device nd your SurroundB r 5000
in which they meet nd exch nge inform tion.
You only h ve to p ir your SurroundB r with your Bluetooth
device one time for this exch nge of inform tion to t ke pl ce.
After th t you simply select the “polk sb5000” from your
device list to m ke the connection to your SurroundB r.
The SurroundB r c n hold 8 Bluetooth devices in its memory.
If enough devices p ir fter yours, your device could
be dropped from the memory list.
Pair and connect your Bluetooth device
with the SurroundBar:
1. M ke sure your Bluetooth device nd SurroundB r 5000
re both powered on.
2. Activ te the Bluetooth function on your Bluetooth source
device. See your device’s m nu l for instructions.
3. Press the Bluetooth source button from the SurroundB r
remote or press the SOURCE button on the SurroundB r
until the Bluetooth source is selected.
The Bluetooth symbol will illumin te, then begin slowly
pulsing s it looks for the p ired device.
4. Your SurroundB r will now be displ yed on your source
device nd v il ble to p ir nd/or connect. Select the
“polk sb5000” on your device to initi te
the connection process.
5. After short del y (5 seconds), the two devices should
now be connected. You should he r short tone nd
the Bluetooth source symbol will now be ste dy blue.
6. Pl y your music from your device!
Note: If your device sks for p sscode to p ir to the
SurroundB r, enter “0000.”
How to disconnect with a Bluetooth device:
1. Press nd rele se the Remote Control Bluetooth button, or
2. Press nd rele se the Bluetooth Source button, or
3. Turn off or disconnect the Bluetooth fe ture
on your Bluetooth device.
The SurroundB r will emit short tone nd the
Bluetooth source symbol will begin slowly pulsing
when disconnected.
Automatic connection:
Any time you w nt to connect the l st p ired device
nd pl y it through the SurroundB r, do the following:
1. Turn your device’s Bluetooth function on.
2. Enter Bluetooth source by pressing the Bluetooth source
button from the remote or press the SOURCE button
on the SurroundB r until the Bluetooth source is selected.
3. After short del y, the two devices will utom tic lly
connect, you will he r short tone, nd the Bluetooth
source symbol will now be ste dy blue.
Note: By def ult, the l st connected Bluetooth device
will utom tic lly connect if v il ble.
Pair and/or connect to a device when in Bluetooth
source, but disconnected:
1. Eng ge the Bluetooth function on your Bluetooth source
device. See your device’s m nu l for instructions.

device s v il ble to p ir nd connect. Select
the “polk sb5000” on your device to initi te
the p iring nd connection process.
After short del y, the two devices should now be p ired

Note: Anytime The SurroundB r exits SLEEP mode nd is in
Bluetooth source, the SurroundB r will utom tic lly connect
to the l st p ired Bluetooth device if the p ired device’s
Bluetooth fe ture is on.

HO TO OPTIMIZE THE SOUND
HEN TV SPEAKERS ARE ON
You should he r sound from the b r. If you don’t, turn up
the volume on the b r using its volume control buttons.
If your b r is connected to your TV, there’s very good ch nce
your TV spe kers re lso pl ying. It’s impossible to give specific
instructions on how to turn off the spe kers for every TV, but
here’s w y to do it th t covers m ny of the TVs out there.
1. On your TV remote control, find “menu” or “setup” button.
2. Press this button. You should see n on-screen menu.
3. Next, look for n option to control udio functions
nd select it.
The setting to turn off your TV’s intern l spe kers should be here.
If you c n’t turn off your TV intern l spe kers, don’t worry.
Your SurroundB r 5000 IHT will m ke your TV sound much
better. To enjoy the best perform nce from your b r, you’ll
w nt it to pl y louder th n your TV. Use the following steps
to djust the volume b l nce between your TV nd the b r:
1. If necess ry, progr m your b r to respond to the volume
up nd down control comm nds of your TV remote.
(See “HOW TO SETUP A REMOTE CONTROL FOR
YOUR SURROUNDBAR 5000 IHT” on p ge 10.)
2. Turn your TV volume ll the w y down using the control
buttons on your TV.
3. Then, using the volume keys on your b r, set the volume
to norm l listening level (do not use the remote control).
After you m ke these djustments, your SurroundB r 5000 IHT
should lw ys be louder th n your TV spe kers. Then use the
TV remote control to djust the volume s you norm lly do.
FINE TUNING YOUR SUB OOFER VOLUME LEVEL
The next thing you’ll w nt to do is djust the subwoofer
to blend with your b r. This will ensure the system produces
the best sound.
To set the subwoofer’s volume, pl y v riety of source m teri l—
some music, movie sound tr ck with gre t speci l effects,
movie ch pter or p rt of concert in which people re
spe king. Adjust the volume until wh t you he r sounds
n tur l to you in your norm l viewing loc tion.

SMARTBAR™PROGRAMMING NOTE:
For your SurroundB r to respond to your remote control, you
MUST FIRST progr m the b r to respond to your television’s
origin l IR (Infr -Red) remote. An RF (Radio Frequency)
remote will not work. Other remotes (c ble, s tellite) will
work only after you h ve progr mmed the b r to respond
to the TV’s IR remote.
Programming Instructions: Your SurroundB r IHT is currently
progr mmed to respond to the remote control th t is included
with the product. However, we strongly recommend progr m-
ming the SurroundB r to lso respond to your existing remote
control using the steps illustr ted below. This will en ble
you to oper te ll of your components using single remote
control. hile programming the SurroundBar, ignore
anything that may be displayed on the TV screen.
Example: To te ch your b r the “Volume Up”
comm nd of your remote control:
Verify comm nd works.
Repeat steps 1-6 to program “Volume Down” ( ), Source,
Mute and Power buttons ( ).
Note: If your b r f ils to le rn cert in IR remote codes, the power
LED will blink red. Try er sing ny previously progr mmed codes
(see below) nd c refully repe t steps 1-6 bove.
Code Erasing Procedure: If you h ve progr mmed your
SurroundB r IHT to respond to remote control nd you no
longer w nt it to do so, er se the codes by pressing the LEARN
key for bout two seconds while the unit is in st ndby mode
(power LED
is red). You’ll know th t previously le rned codes h ve been
successfully er sed when the power LED blinks or nge twice.
Note: This procedure removes ALL of your b r’s remote control
progr mming. If you only need to ch nge the progr mming for
some of the b r buttons, follow the six steps in the sequence
previously described to redo ny previous progr mming.
The SurroundB r will continue to respond to the provided
credit c rd remote control.

the b r nd subwoofer’s wireless connection h s been
lost. Turn off both the b r nd subwoofer. Then turn them
b ck on to re-est blish communic tion. If this does not
fix the issue, refer to the section “SYNCING THE
BAR AND WIRELESS SUBWOOFER,” on p ge 7.
The sound coming from the bar is distorted.
Try turning down the volume of your udio
source, if possible.
Audio processing (see FAQ’s on p ge 12)—

How do I connect my audio?

Your SurroundB r 5000 requires cle n, un ltered stereo

hy can’t I successfully program the SurroundBar 5000
to respond to my remote control?

in which the b r will not be ble to le rn your remote codes.
In this c se, ple se use the remote control provided with
the SurroundB r 5000 product or try different univers l
remote control.

How do I control the SurroundBar 5000?
There re three w ys to control your SurroundB r 5000:
Use the touch-sensitive buttons on the front of the b r.
Use the provided remote control.

My SurroundBar 5000 was responding to commands,
but now it isn’t. hat should I do?
In this r re event, simply turn off the power (switch loc ted
on the b ck of the b r), w it few seconds, nd then turn
the power b ck on. This should restore control.
How do I erase previously learned remote
control commands?
If you h ve progr mmed your SurroundB r 5000 to respond
to remote control nd you no longer w nt it to do so, then
you c n er se the codes by pressing the LEARN key for bout

Can I adjust the subwoofer level control from the bar
keypad if I cannot locate the provided remote control?
Yes. You c n control the subwoofer volume from the

volume buttons. When the power LED shines or nge,
the volume keys ( / ) control the subwoofer volume.

effects. If you do notice ny subwoofer sign l dropouts t ke c re to identify
the root c use (most commonly h ving other wireless devices too close)
nd resolve ccordingly. Any interference effects from microw ve oven
will ce se once the oven stops oper ting nd m y be resolved on long-term
bsis by incre sing the physic l dist nce between your SurroundB r 5000 IHT
