switchinvitescartheft.
Asteeringwheellockanda buzzeralarm
arestandardequipmentinyourPorsche.
Thebuzzerwillsoundifyouopenthedriver's
doorwhilethekeyisstillintheignitionlock.
Thisisyourremindertoremovethekeyfrom
theignitionandlockthedoors.
Donotremovethekeyfromthesteering
lockwhileyouaredrivingorasthecaris
rollingtoastop.Thesteeringcolumnislock-
edwhenyouremovethekey,andyouwill
notbeabletosteerthecar.
Thenewformatofthemasterandauxiliary
keysmakesunauthorizedduplicationofthe
keysvirtuallyimpossible.Thismeans,how-
ever,thatyouyourselfwillnotbeabletoget
replacementkeyscut,unlessorderedfrom
themanufacturer.
Shouldyouneednewkeys,youmustgive
thekeynumber.Thisnumberisnotedonthe
plastictagonthekeys.Keepthistagina
safeplace- notinthevehicle.

Keylight
Themasterkeyhasabuilt-inflashlightinthe
keyhead.Thebeamfromasmallbulbinthe
keyheadilluminatesthelowerpartofthekey
stem.
Theflashlightisonaslongasthecontact
buttonisdepressed.
Theflashlightispoweredbya1.5Voltbutton
battery.Whenthebeambeginstofade,re-
placethebattery,becauseanoldbattery
mayleakanddamageyourclothes.

Anti-theftalarm
(optionalequipment)
IfyourPorscheisequippedwithananti-theft
alarmsystem,youwillbegiventhetwokeys
illustratedanddescribedabove.
Thealarmsystemisactivatedwhenthe
driverorfront-seatpassengerdoorislocked
withtheblackkey.Openingthedriveror
front-seatpassengerdoorbyanyother
meanswhenthealarmsystemisactivated,
willproduceanintermittenthighnoisefor
about30seconds.
Thesamealarmisalsotriggeredwhenan
attemptismadetoopentheluggagecom-
partmentlidortheenginehood.Theengine
cannotbestartedwhilethealarmsystem
isactivated.
Thealarmsystemcanonlybedeactivat-
edbyunlockingthedriverorfront-seat
passengerdoorwiththeblackkey.
Theredkeycanbeusedtolockandunlock
thedoorswhenactivationofthealarmisnot
necessary,orwhenthecarisbeingserviced.
Thefuelcapcanonlybeunlockedwiththe
redkey.
Theglovecompartmentlockcanonlybeun-
lockedwiththeblackkey.
Eitherkeycanbeusedfortheluggagecom-
partmentlockwhenthealarmisdeactivat-
ed.Eitherkeycanbeusedintheignition/
steeringlock.
Keeptheplastictagswiththekeynumbers
ina safeplace- notinthecar!

Centraldoorlockingsystem
Thecentraldoorlockingsystemenables
youtolockorunlockbothdoorssimultane-
ouslybyoperatingonedoorlock.
Thecentraldoorlockingsystemfunctions
onlywhenbothdoorsarefullyclosed.Ifone
dooris„centrally"lockedbeforetheother
doorisfullyclosed,the„centrally"locked
doorwillunlockautomatically.
AIwaysdrivewithlockeddoorstoprevent
inadvertentopeningofadoorfromthein-
side,especiallywithsmallchildreninthe
car.
Thecarissafelylockedwhenlockingknob
„A"isfullydownonbothdoors.Iflocking
knob„A"isnotfullydownononedoor,open
thatdooragain,closeitfirmlyandrepeatthe
lockingoperation.
Onacentrallylockedvehicle,thepassenger
doorcanalsobeunlockedandlockedfrom
insidebyturninglockingknob„B".Locking
knob,,B"isoperationalonlywithdoorfully
closed.
WiththeignitionkeyinPos.„1"or„2"the
electriccircuitofthedoorlockingmechanism
isinterrupted,sothateachdoorcanbeun-
lockedorlockedfromtheinsideonlyby
manuallyraisingordepressinglockingknob
„A".Thissafetyfeaturepreventsthedoors
frombeinglockedautomaticallythrougha
shortcircuitorduringanaccident.
WiththeignitionkeyinPos.„0"thecentral
lockingsystemandlockingknob„B"are
operational.
Doors
Toopendoorsfromoutside,pullthere-
cesseddoorhandle.
Toopendoorsfrominside,pullrecessed
handle„C"abovearmrest.
Thearmrestshaveabuilt-instoragecomp-
artment.Toopen,pressknobinhandcutout
andtiltarmrestoutward.Toclose,tiltcomp-
artmenttowarddoorpanel.
Doorwindows
Toopenorclose,depresstherockerswit-
chesinthecenterconsoleinfrontofthe
shiftlever.
Caution:Removetheignitionkeytoshut
offpowertothewindowswitcheswhen
thevehicleisnotattendedbya respon-
sibleperson.
Thecourtesylightinthelowerdoorpanel
„D"willcomeonwhena doororthehatch-
backisopened.Thelightcanalsobeturned
onoroffwiththeswitchonthelighthousing.

Frontseats
Correctseatpositioningisimportantforsafe
andcomfortabledriving.Therefore,theseat
andthebackrestanglesinyourPorscheare
fullyadjustable.
Seatadjustment
Tomovetheseatforwardorbackward,pull
thelockingleveratthefrontoftheseatup.
Nowslidetheseattothedesiredposition.
Letthelevergo,andmovetheseatslightly
backandforthtomakesureitissecurely
engaged.
Donotattempttoadjustthedriver'sseat
whiledriving!Theseatmaysuddenlyjerk
forwardorbackwardcausinglossofcon-
trol.
Backrestrelease
Thebackrestcanbefoldedforwardforeasy
accesstotherearseats.Torelease,press
thelockingbuttononthesideoftheback-
rest(arrow)and,atthesametime,tiltthe
backrestforward.Whenthebackrestistilted
back,thelockwillengageautomatically.
Backrestadjustment
Turnhandwheelontheoutboardsideofthe
seat(arrows),withyourbodyweighttaken
offtheseatback.
Frontpassengersshouldnotrideina
movingcarwiththeseatbackreclined.
Safetybeltsoffermaximumprotection
onlywiththeseatbackinanuprightposi-
tion.
Formaximumlegroomandunobstructed
viewoftheinstruments,thesteeringwheel
andtheinstrumentclusterunitcanbeun-
locked(arrow),adjusted,andthenre-locked.
Rearseats- luggagecompart-
ment
Thebackrestsoftherearseatscanbetilted
forwardtoprovideadditionalluggagespace.
Unsnaptheluggagecompartmentcover
fromtheuprightrearseatbackrestsandthe
rearcrosswall.
Toreleasebackrest,pulltheleveronsideof
thebackrestupand,atthesametime,tilt
thebackrestforward.

Therockerswitchesfora smooththree-way
seatadjustmentarelocatedattheoutboard
sideoftheseat.
Topermiteasyaccesstotherear,theseat
willslideforwardautomaticallywhenthe
backrestisfoldeddown(withignitiononor
off).Theseatwillremainina positionthat
permitscomfortableentrytothefront,when
thebackrestistiltedbacktoitsuprightpo-
sitionandsecurelylocked.
Note:
Beforeoperatingtheswitches,tiltthesafety
beltbuckleatinboardsideofseatoutofthe
waytopreventthebucklefromgetting
squeezedinbetweenseatcushionandback-
rest,whichcoulddamagebothbuckleand
seatcover.
Manualoperation
Iftheelectricmechanismfails,theseatcan
bemovedforwardorbackwardbypushing
thelockingleverunderthefrontoftheseat
towardoutboardsideofseat.Slidetheseat
tothedesiredpositionandletthelevergo.
Movetheseatslightlybackandforthtomake
sureitissecurelyengaged.

SteeringLock
Thesteeringisequippedwithanantitheft
ignitionlock.
Foryoursafety,fastensafetybelts.
Manualtransmission:
MovegearshiftlevertoNeutral.
Automatictransmission:
MovegearshiftlevertoNeutralorPark.
Neverstartorlettheengineruninanen-
closedunventilatedarea.Exhaustfumes
fromtheenginecontaincarbonmono-
xidewhichisa colorlessandodorless
gas.Carbonmonoxidecanbefatalif
inhaled.
Thereare4 positions:
0Steeringlocked.Allelectriccircuits
wiredthroughtheignitionswitchare
turnedoff.Theignitionkeycanonlybe
withdrawninthe"0"position.Thepark-
inglightscanbeoperatedinthisposition
bypushingtheturnsignalindicatorlever
upanddown(alsosee"Parkinglights").
1 Steeringunlocked.Inthispositionall
electriccircuitsareoperationalexcept
forthefollowing:turnsignals,stop
lights,backuplights,outsidemirror
remotecontrol,rearwindowdefogger/
defrosterandfreshairventilation.The
instrumentclusterilluminationwillcome
onandcanonlybeturnedoffwithkeyin
position"0".
2Ignitionon,steeringunlocked.All
electriccircuitsareoperational.Withthe
enginestationary,thecentralwarning
lightandallindividualwarninglightsloc-
atedinbothcombinationinstruments
willlightupfora bulbcheck.
3 Thestarterisoperatedbyturningthe
ignitionkeytotheright.Assoonasthe
enginestarts,releasethekey.Itwill
springbacktoposition"2".Withthe
enginerunning,thecentralandindivi-
dualwarninglightsshouldgoout.The
STOPLAMΡwillgooutafterdepressing
thebrakepedalandthePARKBRAKE
lightafterfullyreleasingtheparking
brake(see"Centralwarninglightsys-
tem").Toconservebatterypower,the
electriccircuitsforheadlights,rearwin-
dowdefogger/defrosterandwiper/
washersystemaretemporarilyinter-
ruptedduringthestartingprocess.
Thestartershouldnotbeoperatedformore
than10to15secondsata time.Iftheengine
doesnotstartthefirsttimeorstallsatany
time,theignitionwillhavetobeswitchedoff
andthenonagain.Thenonrepeatlockin
theswitchpreventsthestarterfrombeing
operatedwhentheengineisrunningand
thusfrombeingdamaged.
Toremovethekeyandtolockthesteering
turnthekeybacktoposition"0"andpullit
out.Turnthesteeringwheeluntilitlocks.
Ifyouleavethekeyintheignition/steering
lock,thebuzzerwillsoundwhenthedriver's
doorisopened.Thisisyourremindertore-
movethekey.
SeealsoStartingHintsandBrakeinPe-
riod.
Thesteeringcolumnwilllockwhenyou
removethekey.Thereforedonotremove
thekeywhileyouaredrivingorasthecar
isrollingtoa stop.

InertiaRealSafetyBelt
Foryourandyourpassenger'sprotec-
tion,wearsafetybeltsatalltimeswhile
thecarisinmotion.
YourPorscheisequippedwitha safetybelt
foreachfrontandrearseat.
Theinertiarealsafetybeltprovidessafety
withfreedomofmovement.Itadjustsauto-
maticallytoyoursizeandmovementsas
longasthepullonthebeltisslow.Asudden
motionlocksthebelt.
Rapiddecelerationduringhardbrakingora
collisionlocksthebelt.Thebeltwillalsolock
whenyoudriveupordownasteephillorina
sharpcurve.
Toreleasea lockedbelt,leanbacktotake
thebodypressureoffthebelt.
Ashoulderbeltshouldnotbewornbya
personlessthan4'7"/1.40m inheight,
orwithanerectseatingheightofless
than2'5"/74cm,becausethebeltwould
notbeinitsmostprotectivepositionand
maythereforeincreasethepossibilityof
injuryina collision.
Formaximumsafetyandprotection,we
recommendthatsmallchildrentravelin
therearseats.
Whendrivinginforeigncountries,thewear-
ingofsafetybeltsmayberequiredbylaw.
Safetybeltwarningsystem
Anaudio-visualwarningsystemisintercon-
nectedwiththedriver'ssafetybelt.
Whentheignitionisturnedon,thewarning
lightinthecenterconsoleandthebuzzer
willcomeonforabout6seconds.Thebuzzer
willgooffassoonasthedriverhasbuckled
up.Thewarninglightwillgooffafter6 sec-
onds.
Fasteningthebelt
Sitbackinyourseatsothatyourbodyis
supportedbythebackrest.Graspthebelt
tongueandpullthebeltinaslowcontinuous

Releasingthebelt
Tounfastenbelt,pushtheredreleasebut-
tonmarkedPRESS.Belttonguewillspring
outofbuckle.
Tostorelap/shoulderbelt,allowbelttowind
uponretractorasyouguidebelttongueto
itsstowedpositionondoorpost.Marksec-
tionacrossyourlapwithmoveablestopto
keepbelttonguefromslidingdownwhen
beltiswoundup.
Thebeltoftheunoccupiedpassengerseat
shouldalwaysbefullywoundup,withbelt
tongueinstowedposition.Thisreducesthe
possibilityofthebelttonguebecominga
strikingobjectincaseofa suddenstop.
Beltcare
Beltsthathavebeensubjectedtoexcessive
stretchforcesinanaccidentshouldbere-
placed.
Ifbeltsshowdamagetowebbing,bindings,
bucklesorretractors,theyshouldbere-
placed.
Ifbeltsdonotworkproperly,seeyour
Porschedealertohavethemrepairedorre-
placed.
Donotmodifyordisassemblethesafety
beltsinyourcar.
Keepbeltsclean. Iftheyneedcleaning,use
amildsoapsolution,butdonotremovebelts
fromcar.Donotuseothercleaningagents
astheywillweakenthewebbing.
Neverbleachordyesafetybelts.
Donotallowsafetybeltstoretractuntilthey
arecompletelydry.Drybeltsinshade.
Theseatbeltshouldnotbeusedtoholda
