ofthetyres
cleanthewindowsandlightlenses,
frontandrear
turntheignitionon,andcheckthat
headlampsandturnindicators
arefunctioning
takenoteofthecentralwarning
light
adjustrearviewmirrorstogive
uninterruptedrearvision
fastenseatbelts,soshould
thepassengers.
Havetheoillevelintheautomatic
transmissioncheckedregularly,
evenin-betweentherecommended
maintenanceintervals.
Withthevehicleyoureceivetwomasterand
twoauxiliarykeys.Thetwomasterkeysfitall
locks,theauxiliarykeysdonotfittheglove
compartmentlock.
Vehicleswitha rearseatstoragecompart-
mentreceivetwoadditionalkeysforthe
compartmentlock.
Onemasterkeyhasa built-inflashlight.The
lightisonaslongasthecontactbuttonisde-
pressed.
Whenthelightbeginstofade,thebattery
mustbereplacedwithoneofthesametype.
Adischargedbatterycouldleakanddam-
ageyourclothing.
Byvirtueofthenewformatforthemaster
andauxiliarykeys,theunauthorisedmanu-
factureofkeysisalmostcompletelyelimi-
nated.Thismeanshowever,thatyouyour-
selfwillnotbeabletogetreplacementkeys
cut,youmustorderthemfromthemanufac-
turer.

cRearseatstoragecompartmentkey
Shouldyouneednewkeys,youmustgive
thekeynumber.Thisnumberisnotedon
theplastictab,thatyoureceivewiththe
keys.Keepthistabsomewheresafe,notin
thevehicle.

Alarmsystem
Ifyourcarisequippedwithanalarmsystem
youwillhavereceivedtwoS-keysinsteadof
thenormalmasterkeys.Thealarmsystem
canbeactivatedonlywiththeS-keybylock-
ingthedoorsorclosingtheluggagecom-
partmentdoorandturningthekeytothe
left.Ifthedoorsarelockedwiththeauxiliary
keythenthedoorwillbemechanicallylock-
edbutthereisnocontacttoactivatethe
alarm.Thealarmsystemisswitchedoffau-
tomaticallywhena doorortheluggagecom-
partmentisopenedwiththeS-key.Ifthelug-
gagecompartmentdoorisopenedwhilethe
alarmsystemisswitchedon,thekeymust
beturnedtothelefttoreactivatethealarm
system.Ifthedriversorpassengersidedoor,
enginecompartmenthoodortheluggage
compartmentdoorisopenedwhilethe
alarmisactivateda speciallyprotectedsiren
willsoundforabout30seconds.Theengine
cannotbestarted.
IntheinterestofsafetytheS-Keyshouldne-
verbelentouttootherpersons.Forthisrea-
sonthefuelfiltercapcanonlybelocked
withtheauxiliarykey.Thiskeycanbeused
asa"workshopkey"andcanalsobehanded
overatfillingandservicestations.

Doors
Thedoorsareopenedfromtheoutsideby
pullingtheinsetdoorhandle,andfrom
inside,bypullinglever(C).
Accesstothestoragecompartmentsinthe
doorisobtainedbypressingthesafety
knob,andtippingthearmrestoutwards.
Thewindowregulatorsareoperatedbythe
rockerswitchesinthemiddleconsole.
Warning:Toavoidinjurytounknowingoccu-
pantsofthevehicle,(e.g.children)bythe
closingofthewindows,theignitionkey
shouldalwaysbewithdrawnwhenleaving
thevehicle,ifonlyfora shortperiod.
Thefootwelllights(D)mountedforwardin
thelowerpartofthedoortrimconeon,with
theswitchintheappropriateposition,when
thedoorortheluggagecompartmentdoor
isopened.Eachlightcanalsobeswitched
onoroffindividuallybymeansoftheinte-
gratedswitch.
Centraldoorlocking
Bymeansofthecentraldoorlockingsystem
bothdoorsareelectricallylockedorunlock-
edbyoperatingonelock.
Whenthedoorsarelockedthelockingbut-
tons(A)mustbefullyretracted.Ifthisisnot
thecasethelockonthatdoorisnotproperly
engaged.Re-openthedoor,closeitpro-
perlyandre-lockit.

Onvehicleswithcentrallockingthepassen-
gerdoorcanbelockedandunlockedby
turningtheknob(B)aswellaswiththekey.
Topreventbeingaccidentallylockedoutof
thevehicleitisimpossibletolockthedoor,
whileopen,eitherusingtheknob(B)orwith
thekey.
Amechanicallockingorunlockingofthe
individualdoorsisonlypossiblewhenthe
ignitionisswitchedonorwhentheignition
keyisturnedtopos.1.Thiscutoutofthe
electricalfunctionpreventsthedoorsfrom
lockinginthecaseofa shortcircuitorif
deformedinanaccident.
Doorguardlights
Centrallockingisonlypossiblewhenboth
driverandpassengerdoorsareclosed.If
onedoorislockedbeforetheotherisclosed
itwillautomaticallyunlockwhentheother
doorisclosed.
Whentheignitionisswitchedoffbutwiththe
keystillintheignitionlockthedoorscanbe
centrallylockedusingeitherthekeyorthe
knob(B).
Thedoorguardlightscomeonwhena door
ortheluggagecompartmentdoorisopen-
ed.

Interiorlights
Theinteriorlights,whichareindependent
fromoneanother,comeon,withtheswitch
intheappropriateposition,assoonasa
doorortheluggagecompartmentdooris
opened.Theinteriorlightsmountedinthe
roofliningcanbeswitchedasfollowingby
tippingthelightcover:
a- lightswitchedonpermanently
b- lightswitchedoffpermanently
c- lightcomesononlywhena doororlug-
gagecompartmentdoorisopened.
Thefootwelllightsmountedforwardinthe
lowerpartofthedoortrimhavefollowing
switchpositions:
a- lightcomesononlywhena doororlug-
gagecompartmentdoorisopened
b- lightswitchedoffpermanently
c- lightswitchedonpermanently.
Theluggagecompartmentlightintherear
lidhasthefollowingswitchpositions:
a- lightcomesononlywhena doororlug-
gagecompartmentdoorisopened
b- lightswitchedoffpermanently
c- lightswitchedonpermanently.

Frontseats
Correctseatpositioningisimperativefor
safeandtirelessdriving.Toenableindividual
seatingcomfort,theseatsareadjustablefor
andaftandthebackrestangleisadjustable.
Tofindthemostsuitableseatposition,we
suggestthefollowingprocedure:
1Pullthelockingleveratthefrontofthe
seatupwards,andslidetheseatuntilyour
legisstraightwhenfullydepressingthe
clutchpedal.Youshouldnothowever
havetooutstretchyourfoottoreachthis
position.Letthelockingleverdown,and
ensurethattheseatislockedina ratchet
ontheseatslides.Nevertrytoadjustthe
seatwhilstdriving,asa suddenchangeof
seatpositioncouldcauseyoutolose
controlofthevehicle.
2Gripthetophalfofthesteeringwheel.
Thensetthebackrestanglesothatwith
fullyoutstretchedarms,yourshoulders
stillcontactthebackrest.
Thencheckthesteeringwheelposition,and
viewoftheinstruments.
Foroptimumlegroomandviewoftheinstru-
ments,thesteeringwheelandinstrument
consolecanbereleased,adjusted,andthen
re-locked.
Thebackrestsaresecuredinpositionto
stopthemtippingforwardduringbraking;to
release,pressthebuttononthesideofthe
backrest.
Similarly,therearseatbackrestscanbere-
leased,andtippedforward,therebygiving
moreluggageroomintherear.

Electricseatadjustment Handoperation
Invehiclesfittedwithelectricalseatadjust-
ment,thecontrolsfortheelectricmotors
whichadjusttheseatfor/aft,height,and
rakeanglecanbefoundmountedintheout-
sideflanksoftheseats.
Topreventdamagetothebeltlockandto
theseatcover,careshouldbetakenthatthe
beltlockispushedoutwardssothatitcan-
notjambetweentheseatandseatbackrest
whentheseatismovedforward.
Manualoperationoftheseatisalsopossible
incaseofpossibleelectricalmalfunction.To
dothispullthelockingleveratthefrontof
theseatupwardsandslidetheseatto
achievethedesiredseatingposition,then
releasethelever.

Rearviewmirrors
Beforebeginninga journeyyoushoulden-
surethattherearviewmirrorsareproperly
adjusted.
Theinteriorrearviewmirrorisstuckdirectly
onthewindscreen.Thisenablesa veryshort
mirrorstemtobeusedtherebyobviating
vibration,anda blurredimage.
Themirrorisadjustedtotheanti-dazzle
positionbypressingtheleverunderneathit.
Theelectricallyadjustablewingmirrorscan
besetwiththeswitchinthedriver'sdoor.
Thepassengerdoorwingmirrorisadjust-
ablebythesameswitch,bypressingthe
rockerswitchbesidetheadjusterswitchinto
theappropriateposition.
Whennecessary,thewingmirrorscanalso
beadjustedbyhand.
Thewingmirrorsarealsoelectricallyheated
whentherearwindowheatingisturnedon.

Safetybelts
YourPorscheisequippedwithsafetybelts
asstandardfittings.Alloccupantsofthecar
shouldwearsafetybeltsfortheirownsafety,
oneveryjourney.Toremindyouofthis,a
warninglightinthemiddleconsolecomes
onforapprox.6 seconds,everytimethe
ignitionisturnedon.
Thelapandshoulderbeltsasfittedarenot
suitableforchildrenunder140cm(4ft.6
ins.)tall.Tostopthemdistractingthedriver's
attention,andfortheirownsafety,children
under12yearsoldshouldalwaystravelin
therearseats.
Neveruseoneseatbeltfortwopeople.
Looseclothingaffectsthefitoftheseatbelt.
Youshouldthereforetakeyourcoatoff,be-
causea correctseatingpositionandfree-
domofmovementareimportantforcomfort
andsafety.
Donotrunthebeltoverfragileobjectsin
yourpockets,e.g.spectacles,pensora
pipeetc.asthesecouldrepresentadditi-
onalhazards.
Pleaserememberwhendrivingabroad,that
insomecountriesthewearingofseatbelts
iscompulsory.
Puttingonthebelts
Decidethebestseatingpositionforyour-
self.Takeholdoftheslidingbuckleandpull
thebeltfirmlyoverchestandhips.Pressthe
buckleintotherespectiveanchorpointuntil
youhearthatthelatchislocked.Slidethe
plasticloopuptothebuckle.
Avoidtwistsinthewebbingwhenputting
onthebelt.

Thelappartofthebeltmustalwaysstaytaut
overthepelvis.Afterputtingthebelton,you
shouldthereforepulltheshoulderpartofthe
beltupwardsasshowninthepicture.Now
andagainduringthejourney,youshould
repeatthisproceduretoensurethatthelap
beltisalwaystaut.
Thelockingmechanismintheroll-upunitis
sodesigned,thatbyrapidaccelerationor
braking,corneringordrivingonsteepin-
clines,thebeltislocked.Thislockingsystem
reactsmorequicklytotheretardationofthe
carthantoanypullonthebelt.
Releasingthebelts
Toreleasethebelt,presstheredbutton
marked"press".Thebucklethenspringsout
oftheanchorage,whetherthereisanyload-
ingonthebeltornot.
Makesurethatthebeltsarealwaysfullyre-
tractedwhennotinuse.Thiswillprevent
thembecomingdirtyandavoidunneces-
sarydamagetothebeltsthemselves.
Youshouldcheckyourseatbeltsregularly
forsignsofdamagetothewebbing.Make
surethatthelocksandanchoragepointsare
ingoodcondition.Ifthebeltshavebeen
subjectedtohighloadsorstretchedinan
accident,havethemreplacedintheinte-
restsofyourownsafety.
Backseatsafetybelts
Thebackseatsareequippedwithautoma-
ticlapbelts.Donottwistthebeltwhenput-
tingiton.Thebeltisreleasedbypressing
theredbutton.
Warning.Pleasedonotmakeanyalterations
oradditions.

Handbrake
Thehandbrakeiscableoperatedtotherear
wheelsonly.Itisappliedbypullingthelever
upwards.
Toreleasethebrake,thelevermustbepull-
edupwardswhilstpressingthebuttoninthe
endoftheleveruntiltheratchetiscleared,
andthenlettingtheleverdownwards.
Thecentralwarninglightandthehandbrake
warninglightwillgooutwhenthebrakelever
isfullyreleased.(SeeAutomaticwarning
unit.)
Footbrake
Toreducethepedaleffortnecessarywhen
braking,yourPorschehasa brakeservounit.
Thevacuumnecessarytooperatethisunitis
takenfromtheengineinletmanifold,when
theengineisrunning.
Pleasenotethatwitha defectiveservounit,
orwhenthevehicleisbeingtowedwiththe
engineturnedoff,thebrakingeffortrequired
isconsiderablyincreasedassoonasthe
vacuumreservoirisusedup.
Withproperlybledandfunctioningbrakes,
thefreemovementatthebrakepedalwill
remainconstant.Thisfreetravelbeforethe
brakesstarttooperatecanbe20mm(0.8
ins.).
Shouldthisfreetravelsuddenlybecome
bigger,eitherairhasenteredthesystem,or
oneofthebrakecircuitshasmalfunctioned.
Amalfunctionofoneofthebrakecircuitsor
thelossofbrakefluidwouldcausethecen-
tralwarninglighttoblink.(SeeCentralwarn-
ingunit.)
Clutch
Duetothehydraulicoperationoftheclutch,
afreetraveloftheclutchpedalof2.5mmis
necessary.
Shouldthisfreetravelsuddenlybecome
bigger,itcouldmeana malfunctionofthe
clutch.Pleaseconsultyourworkshopfor
rectification.
