SAvoid dangerous environments. Do not
use in unventilated areas or where dust or
explosive vapors can build up.
STo reduce the risk of electrical shock, use
extension cords specifically marked as
suitable for outdoor appliances. The elec-
trical ratingofthecordmustnotbeless than
the rating of the unit. The cord must be
marked with the suffix “W-A” (in Canada,
“W”). Make sure your extension cord is in
good condition. Inspect extension cord be-
foreuseandreplaceifdamaged.Anunder-
sized extension cord will cause a drop in
line voltage resulting in loss of power and
overheating. Ifin doubt,usethenextheavi-
er gauge. The smaller the gauge number,
the heavier the cord.
SDo not use multiple cords.
SThe powerhead may have a polarized plug
(one blade is wider than the other);if so, it
will requiretheuse ofapolarizedextension
cord. Theapplianceplugwill fitintoapolar-
ized extension cord only one way. If the
plug does not fit fully into the extension
cord, reverse theplug. If theplug still does
not fit, obtain a correct polarized extension
cord. A polarized extension cord will re-
quiretheuseofapolarizedwall outlet. This
plugwill fit intothepolarizedwall outletonly
oneway. Ifplugdoesnotfitfullyintothewall
outlet,reversethe plug. Ifit still doesnotfit,
contact a qualified electrician to install the
properwalloutlet. Donotchangetheequip-
ment plug, extension cord receptacle, or
extension cord plug in any way.
SDonotattempttorepairunit. Inspectthein-
sulation and connectors on the powerhead
and extension cord before each use. If
there is any damage, do not use until dam-
age is repaired by your authorized service
center.
SDonotpull orcarryby cord;donotusecord
as a handle, close a door on cord, or pull
cord around sharp edges or corners. Keep
cord away from heated surfaces. Do not
unplugby pulling on cord.To unplug,grasp
the plug, not the cord.
SDo not use the powerhead if the switch
does not turn the unit on and off properly.
Have the unit repaired by your authorized
service center.
SKeep the extension cord clear of operator
and obstacles at all times. Do not expose
cords to heat, oil, water, or sharp edges.
SAvoid any body contact with any grounded
conductor, such as metal fences, or pipes,
to avoid the possibility of electric shock.
Don’t handle plug or unit with wet hands.
SDo not use with damaged cord or plug. If
powerhead is not working as it should, has
been dropped, damaged, left outdoors, or
dropped into water, return it to your autho-
rized service center for repair.

ceptacles are available having built-in
GFCI protection and may be used for this
measure of safety.
DOUBLE INSULATION
CONSTRUCTION
Your powerhead should be double insulated to
help protect against electric shock. Double in-
sulation construction consists of two separate
“layers” of electrical insulation instead of
grounding. Tools and appliances built with a
doubleinsulation system are not intended tobe
grounded. Safety precautions must be ob-
served when operating any electrical tool. The
double insulation system only provides added
protection against injury resulting from an inter-
nal electrical insulation failure.
WARNING: All repairs to an electric
powerhead, including housing, switch, motor,
etc., must be diagnosed and repaired by quali-
fied service personnel. Replacement parts for a
double insulated appliance must be identical to
the parts they replace. A double insulated
appliance is marked with thewords “double in-
sulation”or “double insulated”. Thesymbol
(squarewithinasquare)may alsobe markedon
the appliance. Failure to have the unit repaired
by your authorized service dealer can cause the
double insulation construction to become inef-
fective and result in serious injury.

WARNING: Disconnect powerhead
spark plug (or disconnect powerhead from
power source) before performing mainte-
nance.
SInspect entire unit before each use. Re-
placedamagedparts. Checkforfuelleaks.
Makesureall fastenersareinplaceandse-
curely fastened.
SMaintain unit according to recommended
procedures.
SHave all maintenance and service not ex-
plained in this manual performedby an au-
thorized service center.
SThrow away tines that are bent, warped,
cracked, broken, or damaged in any other
way. Replace parts that are cracked,
chipped, or damaged beforeusing the unit.
SUse only recommended Poulan PRO!
parts and accessories. Never use wire,
wire rope, string, flailing devices, etc.
SBe sure tines stop turning when engine
idles (see CARBURETOR ADJUST-
MENTS section of powerheadmanual).
SRemovethetinesbeforemakingcarburetor
adjustments. Hold the unit by hand.
SKeepothers away whenmakingcarburetor
adjustments.
SNever start the unit with theclutch housing
removed. The clutch can fly off and cause
serious injury.
SAvoid heavy contact with solid objects that
might stop the tines. If heavy contact oc-
curs, stopthe unit and inspect fordamage.
SIf tines strike a foreign object, follow these
steps: stopunit anddisconnect spark plug
wire (or disconnect from power source),in-
spect for damage, and repair any damage
before resuming operation of the unit.
