“Your Total Patient
Lift Solution”
Lateral Air Transfer System TIP Averages Remain Consistent
Situation
Recent Safe Patient Handling legislations have
focused attention on reducing back injuries in the
nursing industry. The PPS Glide offers an
ergonomic solution to help with this problem while
nurses laterally transfer patients. The PPS Glide
system includes a mat that is placed under the
patient. Tissue interface pressure (TIP) readings
were evaluated to aid healthcare facilities in
determining whether or not to leave the mat under
the patient.
Methodology
A third-party facility conducted tissue interface
pressure mapping using XSENSOR™pressure
mapping system on one bed surface, Isoflex™
Pressure Redistribution, and one stretcher surface,
Pioneer™Pressure Redistribution. The surfaces
were placed on a sturdy laboratory table. The first
scan was completed with the subject lying directly
on the surface. The second scan was completed by
placing a deflated PPS Glide mat on the surface
with the patient lying on top. An average size adult
was used for the analysis examining three critical
zones: scapula, sacrum and heel. The subject was
dressed in an appropriate size cotton sweat suit
and without shoes to ensure optimum contact with
the full surface sensor matrix.
Conclusion
No significant increases in TIP averages were seen
when comparing the Isoflex™with PPS Glide, or
when comparing the Pioneer™stretcher mattress
to the Pioneer™with PPS Glide.
Results
TIP averages are listed to the right.

Cleaning Instructions
MACHINE WASHING
If the mat is not heavily or visibly soiled, you may not need to launder the mat. Always follow hospital
protocol for cleaning mattresses.
To wipe down the mat with disinfectant between patient uses, follow these steps:
1. Place the mat on a clean, at surface or hang it from the wall.
2. Apply disinfectant solution by spray, solution or pre-soaked wipes.
3. Make sure that you disinfect all mat surfaces. Pay particular attention to the high contact areas,
such as the pull handles and patient safety straps.
4. Follow disinfectant’s instructions for appropriate contact time and rinsing requirements.
5. Allow the mat to dry before returning to use.
Note: Reference your PPS Glide Operations manual for a listing of recommended disinfectants.
Step One: Laundering the PPS Glide mat
For best results, make sure that both of the patient centering straps are buckled and that the hose
connection points (Velcro® aps at the foot end) are closed.
1. Place the mat in the washing machine.
2. Set the temperature setting to ensure that the water temperature does not exceed 150°F.
Note: Washing machines vary, so you must determine the water temperature produced by your
specic washer at each setting.
3. Allow the washer to begin lling with water.
4. Add a neutral detergent (or bleach solution no greater than 1:10 bleach to water dilution).
5. Close the washer lid/door.
6. Allow the washer to complete its entire wash cycle before removing the mat.
