1 Description
The V6153 and V6154 areapairofdistribution amplifiersforSDI Video. Bothcan process both
StandardDefinition (SD)and HighDefinition (HD)video,butthe V6153haseightoutputswhile
theV6154hassixteenoutputs.
The V6153 isasinglewidthmodule,whilethe V6154 isadoublewidthmodule, requiring apair
ofrearmodules.Unlikesomedoublewidthmodulesthepairofrearsdoesnotneed tobe
bound together,althoughtherearoverlaycoversbothactual rears.
Bothunitsarepart ofthe V1600 rangeofinterfacemodulesand arebuilt on a3U high Eurocard
whichcan befitted intoaV1606 3Uchassisalong withanyothercardsfromtherange.Unlike
manymodulesinthe range the V6153 and V6154 cannotbe used intheV16011U Chassis.
ThisisduetothetechnicalrequirementsforHD signalbandwidths.
The video datarateisautomaticallyselected fromthe incoming SDI video and identified asSD
fromdataratesof143,177,270,360,540Mbits/sorHDfrom1.485Gbits/s.ApairofLEDson
thefrontpanelindicateswhethertheinput signalispresentand whetheritisSDorHD.
BothDAsinclude are-clockertoregeneratethe SDIsignal, butthiscan be disabled using an on-
boardlink.Insomeinstallationstheuseof anon-reclockingDAispreferred toavoidlockingjitter
errorsintoasignal.
BothmodulesreceivealltheirpowerandIO signalsfromthe rackthrough the passiverear
modules.
Bothmodulesarecompatiblewiththe DARTremotecontroland monitoringsystem.Theyhave
no controlsbut willindicateSignalPresent, SDI Standard,SDorHD and whetherRe-clocking is
enableordisabled.

3 Operation
3.1 General
TheV6153isacombinationoftwoPCBs;amainbaseboardandanIO sub-module.
TheV6154isacombinationofthreePCBs;amainbaseboard,andtwoidenticalIO sub-
modules.
Themainbaseboardprovidesall thepowerdistributionandDART remotecontrollogic, while
thesub-modulestakethe SDIinputandprovidealltheoutputs.
3.2 LinkSetting

3.3 ASI Signals
AlthoughtheV6153andV6154areessentiallySDIDAs, theycan be usedforASIsignalson
someoutputs.Themaindifferencebetween anASIsignaland apureSDIsignalisthatSDI is
polarityindependent whileASIsignalsarenot. (Thereareothertechnicaldifferences,but thisis
thecriticalonewhichdirectlyaffectsthesignalintegrity.)
Halfoftheoutputsdohavethecorrectpolarity,andcansafelybeused forASIsignalsasshown
here:
