PRODUCT OVERVIEW
THANK YOU FOR PURCHASING THE PROLON PL-485-BT.
The PL-485-BT is a Blue oo h 4.0 o RS485 conver er. I s main purpose is o wirelessly ransmi he messages
genera ed by he ProLon Focus sof ware via Blue oo h o a s andard RS485 ne work. This allows any smar phone
or able o view and configure a ProLon Con rol Sys em direc ly, wi hou requiring Wi-Fi or E herne access o he
sys em. (A ProLon NC2000 Network Controller is NO LONGER REQUIRED for access).
The PL-485-BT uses Blue oo h 4.0, o herwise known as Blue oo h Low Energy (LE) or SMART. I is an ex remely
op imized version of Blue oo h, allowing for considerably reduced ba ery power consump ion while main aining a
similar communica ion range. Mos opera ing sys ems (iOS, Android, MacOS, Windows 10) na ively suppor

Blue oo h 4.0. However i is NOT COMPATIBLE wi h Classic Blue oo h. Please no e ha his conver er does NOT
crea e a Blue oo h vir ual serial por and canno be used as such.
The PL-485-BT also ac s as a general purpose USB o RS485 conver er. Compu ers equipped wi h a USB por will
recognize i as an addi ional serial por and can use i for any serial pro ocol or purpose. When plugged in via USB,
he conver er is powered by he por and he in ernal ba ery will charge up. Please no e ha smar phones and
able s are limi ed o Blue oo h 4.0 LE connec ions only and canno connec over USB.
The PL-485-BT is he ideal ool for con rac ors and end users due o i s simplici y and ease of use. The PL-485-BT
can be used as a por able, ba ery-powered communica ion ool, or i can be fixed in place and powered via USB
for permanen ins alla ion.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
The PL-485-BT can be used from various pla forms, bu in all cases, he following is required:
•ProLon Focus Applica ion (free - see below for de ails)
•Blue oo h 4.0 LE capable (in egra ed or via dongle)

The PL-485-BT requires cer ain drivers o be ins alled on he compu er for i o func ion. The drivers are ins alled
on he compu er a he same ime ha he Focus Sof ware is ins alled. If your compu er s ill canno loca e he
drivers, please direc i o manually search in he ProLon ins alla ion folder, in he ‘Drivers’ subfolder.
MacOS
The PL-485-BT requires drivers cer ain drivers o be ins alled on he compu er for i o func ion. The drivers are
presen in he ins alla ion package.
iOS and Android
The iOS and Android versions canno connec o he conver er over USB and are res ric ed o he Blue oo h 4.0 LE
mode only.
CONNECTING THE RS485 SIDE
Connec he A (+) and B(-) screw erminals o he wires of appropria e polari y on he RS485 bus, using appropria e
RS485 cabling. Connec he GND screw erminal o RS485 GND reference as needed.

Al erna ively, he PL-485-BT is equipped wi h an RJ45 jack ha carries he same
RS485 A(+), B(-) and GND signals among he eigh pins wi hin he jack (see Figure 1
for pinou ). This por is very prac ical since i can be used o quickly connec o
ProLon con rollers ha are equipped wi h a similar RJ45 jack using s andard CAT5
cable (plug-and-play). This approach saves ime since here is no need o cu and
s rip wires.
NOTE: The RJ45 jack is NOT an ETHERNET por . The PL-485-BT does NOT SUPPORT
ETHERNET.
OPERATING TIPS & TROUBLESHOOTING
POWER & CHARGING
The PL-485-BT is equipped wi h a rechargeable Li hium-Ion ba ery. I charges via he USB por . I is also equipped
wi h an ON/OFF bu on. The swi ch mus be in he ON posi ion for he conver er o opera e as a communica ions
device (Blue oo h or USB). When he conver er is no being used, swi ch o he OFF posi ion o conserve ba ery
life. The conver er’s ba ery can s ill be charged even when he swi ch is in he OFF posi ion.
Upon Power-Up, he POWER LED will be ORANGE for a brief period of ime (approx. 45 sec) while he ba ery level
is being calcula ed in ernally. Af er his period, he POWER LED will be:
•Blinking RED when USB unplugged
•Solid RED when USB plugged and charging
•Solid GREEN when USB plugged and he ba ery has been fully charged
The curren ba ery level can be displayed any ime in he ProLon Focus Applica ion. The POWER LED remains OFF
when he swi ch is se o he OFF posi ion.
No e: While a Blue oo h connec ion is open, USB o RS485 communica ion is disabled. (The conver er ba ery will
s ill con inue o be charged when USB is plugged even if Blue oo h is ac ive).
ONCE FULLY CHARGED, THE BATTERY CAN LAST APPROXIMATELY 15 HOURS WHILE ACTIVELY
COMMUNICATING TO A PROLON SYSTEM, AND UP TO 22 HOURS WHEN IDLE (POWER SWITCH LEFT ON). IF
THE POWER SWITCH IS OFF, THE CONVERTER CAN LAST FOR SEVERAL WEEKS.
THE BATTERY TAKES APPROXIMATELY 2-3 HOURS TO COMPLETELY CHARGE UP AGAIN.
