Assoonastheprintserverisconnectedtothenetwork,itcheckswhetheranIPaddresscanbeobtained
viathebootprotocolBOOTPorDHCP.Ifthisisnotthecase,theprintserverusesZeroconftoassignitself
anIPaddressfromtheaddressrange(169.254.0.0/16)reservedforZeroconf.
The‚SmartProductManager‘isasowaretoolformanagingandmanagingnetworkdevices.Withthis
sowareyoucandeterminetheIPaddressoftheprintserverasdescribedbelowand,ifrequired,savea
freelydenableIPaddressintheprintserver.

The user interface of the print server can be opened in an Internet browser as the PRINTSERVER homepage

thetext previouslyentered under ‚Conguraon - General‘.Adescriponcanbe
freelydenedandusedtogetabeeroverviewoftheprintserversandprintersin
thenetwork.
Printer Port Status
ThePrinterPortpageshowsinformaonabouttheconnectedprinters.Itcontains
e.g.informaonaboutthemanufacturer,theprintermodelorthetotalnumberof
pagesprinted.Theprintercontrolpanelandprinterstatusmessagescanalsobe
displayed.Theinformaonthatcanbedisplayeddependsontheprinterandprint
servermodel.Forprintservermodelswithmulplephysicalprinterports,the
informaonforeachportisshownseparately.

The TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol over Internet Protocol) is responsible for forwarding data packets
overseveralconneconsandestablishingconneconsbetweennetworkparcipantsonthisbasis.
TheTCP/IPprotocolfamilyincludesthebootprotocolsDHCPandBOOTP.YoucandenevariousIPv4para-
metersforopmalintegraonoftheprintserverintoaTCP/IPnetwork.

3.2 IPv6 Parameter
IPv6 (Internet Protocol Version 6) is the successor to the Internet Protocol Version 4 that is currently pre-
dominantlyused.BothprotocolsarestandardsforthenetworklayeroftheOSImodelandregulatethead-
dressingandroungofdatapacketsthroughanetwork.TheintroduconofIPv6oersmanyadvantages:
• Enlargementoftheaddressspacefrom232(IPv4)to2128(IPv6)IPaddresses.
• Autoconguraonandrenumbering
• Increasedeciencyinroungthroughreducedheaderinformaon.
• StandardintegratedservicessuchasIPSec,QoS,Mulcast
• Mobile IP
3.3 How is an IPv6 address represented?
IPv6addressesare128bitslongandarerepresentedas8x16bitsinhexadecimal.Theeightblocksare
separatedbyacolon.
Example: fe80 : 0000 : 0000 : 0000 : 0000 : 10 : 1000 : 1a4
Leadingzeroscanbeneglectedforsimplicity.
Example: fe80 : 0 : 0 : 0 : 0 : 10 : 1000 : 1a4
Ablockofconguouszeroscanbecombinedwithtwoconsecuvecolons.Inorderfortheaddresstore-
mainunique,thisrulemayonlybeappliedonce.

3.3.1 What are the IPv6 address types?
IPv6addressescanbedividedintodierenttypes.IPv6addresstypescanbederivedbasedontheprexes
intheIPv6addresses.
• Unicastaddressesareroutable,globallyuniqueandthereforeunambiguousaddresses.Apacketsentto
aunicastaddressonlyarrivesontheinterfaceassociatedwiththataddress.Unicastaddresseshavethe
prexes‚2‘or‚3‘.
• Anycastaddressescanbereceivedbyseveralparcipantsatthesameme.Adatapacketthatissent
tothisaddressarrivesatseveraldevices.Anycastaddressesdonotdierintheirsyntaxfromunicast
addresses,buttheyselectoneinterfacefromseveralinterfaces.Apacketdesnedforananycastad-
dressarrivesattheclosest(accordingtotheroutermetric)interface.Anycastaddressesareonlyused
byrouters.
• Withthemulcastaddress,datapacketscanbesenttoseveralinterfacesatthesamemewithoutthe
bandwidthincreasinginproporontotheparcipants.Amulcastaddresscanberecognizedbythe

Iftheparameterisdeacvated,thegatewayaddressmustbeent-
eredmanually.
Prexlength
DenesthelengthofthesubnetprexfortheIPv6address.The
value64ispreset.Addressrangesarespeciedbyprexes.Forthis
purpose,theprexlength(numberofbitsused)isshownasade-
cimalnumberwithapreceding‚/‘appendedtotheIPv6address.
Automacconguraon Acvates/deacvatestheautomacassignmentofIPv6addresses
fortheprintserver.
3.4 Conguraon DNS
DNS(DomainNameService)allowsthemutualassignmentofnamesandaddresses.IfaDNSserverisope-
ratedinyournetwork,youhavetheoponofusingtheDNSforyourprintserver.

3.6 How to use SNMP
SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) has become the standard protocol for managing and moni-
toringnetworkelements.Theprotocolregulatesthecommunicaonbetweenthemonitoreddevicesand
themonitoringstaon.
SNMPallowsreadingandchangingmanagementinformaonprovidedbythenetworkelements.Thecol-
leconofmanagementinformaonforadeviceiscalledMIB.
Private MIB of the print server
Theprintserverprovidesthestandard‚MIB-II‘anda‚PrivateMIB‘(ManagementInformaonBase).All
printserverparametersandstatusinformaonarestoredinthe‚PrivateMIB‘.The‚PrivateMIB‘isstoredin
theprintserverupondeliveryandcanbeusedimmediately.
³ Benetandpurpose
TheprintserverparameterscanbequeriedandconguredbyamanagementtoolusingtheSNMPproto-
col.

• Theprintserverisconnectedtothenetworkandtheprinter.
• The print server is known with an IP address in the network
3.6 Conguraon Mail
MailconguraonThePOP3andSMTPprotocolsmustbeconguredontheprintserversothattheno-
caonserviceandadministraonviae-mailcanfunconontheprintserver.
3.6.1 Conguraon POP3
‚POP3‘(PostOceProtocolVersion3)isatransferprotocolthataclientcanusetoretrievee-mailsfroman
e-mailserver.POP3isrequiredintheprintserverinordertoadministratetheprintserverviae-mail.

Theprintservercanbecomeawirelessdevicebypluggingaspecicwirelessmoduleintotheap-
propriateport.Theprintservercanbeoperatedviainthenetwork.Duringtheinialstart-up,the
printserverisiniallyconnectedviaanEthernetcable.AeryouhavemadetheWLANsengs,
simplyrestartthedeviceandremovetheEthernetcable.Thedeviceautomacallyswitchestowire-
lessoperaon.
WLANisaradiotechnologythatmakesitpossibletoprovidewirelessconneconsbetweennet-
workcomponents.TheWLANtechnologyisdenedasastandardintheIEEE802.11family.The
printserversupportsthestandardsIEEE802.11b,IEEE802.11gandIEEE802.11n.
AnoponalWLANantennaisrequired.

WEP(WiredEquivalentPrivacy)isanencryponmethodaccordingtoIEEE802.11basedonRC4
encrypon.WEPprovidesdataencryponandauthencaonfuncons.WEPencryptsallcommu-
nicaonusingakey.Withencryptedbasestaons,thesameWEPkeymustbeusedonthebase
staonandontheprintserver.
L IfyourbasestaonsupportsmulpleWEPkeys,makesurethekeynumareidencalon
thebasestaonandprintserver.Example:ThekeyABCDEmusthavethenumber2on
bothdevices(andnot1onthebasestaonand2ontheprintserver.)
SomebasestaonsconvertWEPkeys,whichareenteredasASCIItext,intoarbitraryhexa-
decimalvaluesusingamechanism.Inthiscase,thekeysonthebasestaonandonthe
printserverdonotmatch.ItisthereforerecommendedtousehexadecimalWEPkeys.
WEP isoutdatedandinsecure.WerecommendusingWPA(Auto).
4.1.2 WPA/WPA2
WPA(Wi-FiProtectedAccess)beinhalteteinegegenüberWEPverbesserteAushandlungvonSchlüsseln.
DWPA(Wi-FiProtectedAccess)includesimprovedkeynegoaoncomparedtoWEP.Thenegoa-
onkeyisonlyusedatthebeginningofasession.Asessionkeyisthenused.Thekeyisregene-
ratedatperiodicintervals.TheWPAmechanismprovidesauthencaonduringconneconestablish-
ment.
In‚PersonalMode‘,authencaonisimplementedviathepre-sharedkey(PSK).ThePSKisapass-
wordof8-63alphanumericcharacters.In‚EnterpriseMode‘anEAPauthencaonmethodisused.
Aerauthencaon,anindividual128-bitkeyisusedfordataencrypon.
TheencryponmethodsTKIP(TemporalKeyIntegrityProtocol)andAES(AdvancedEncryponStan-
dard)areavailablefordataencrypon.

are available:
• The‚SoAP‘mode(factoryseng)issuitableforinialsetupand
simpleinialaccesstothedevice.Inthismode,thedevicebeco-
mes.anaccesspointandonlycommunicateswithWLANclientsthat
areconnectedtoitsownnetwork.Thewirelessnetworknameand
passphraseusedinSoAPmodearehard-codedintoeachdevice
andarederivedfromtheuniquehardwareaddress(alsocalled
MACaddress)oftheprintserver.Aclientcanconnecttothenet-
workusingthesecredenals(replacexxxxxxwiththelastsixdigits
of the MAC address):

• The „Infrastructure“ mode is suitable for standard ope-
raon and is used in larger wireless networks. The com-
muni caon between the devices takes place via an ac-
cesspoint,whichz.B.isconnectedtootherwirednetworks.
Accesstothenetworkusuallyrequiresauthencaonsinceitis
encryptedandprotectedwithapassphrase(PSK).Thesengsfor
the infrastructure mode can be taken from the wireless site over-
viewbyselecngawirelessnetworkthathasalreadybeenfound.
