UHF/Cable RF Modulator
The UHF/Cable RF Modulator is an agile
mono modulator with digital type channel se-
lection, multi-channel frequency, and RF out-
put. It accepts left and right audio and video
signals from satellite receivers, VCRs, disc
players, and CCTV cameras. It has full chan-
nel memory for power outages and allows
switch-free distribution of audio and video in
UHF and cable TV channels.
Its other features include:
Digital Display — shows modes and chan-
nels selected.
Digital Type Channel Selection — lets you
select clear channels to transmit.
HRC and IRC — cable modes.
Digital PLL Tuning — limits channel drift.
Full Channel Memory for Power Outages
— retains the last channel after the power is
lost.
Wide Selection of Channels — lets you
choose from UHF channels 14 to 69, and
CATV/HRC/IRC channels 65 to 94 and 100
to 125.
THE FCC WANTS YOU
TO KNOW
This equipment has been tested and found
to comply with the limits for a Class B digital
device, pursuant to Part 15 of the
FCC
Rules
. These limits are designed to provide
reasonable protection against harmful inter-
ference in a residential installation. This
equipment generates, uses and can radiate
radio frequency energy and, if not installed
and used in accordance with the instructions,
may cause harmful interference to radio
communications.
However, there is no guarantee that interfer-
ence will not occur in a particular installation.
If this equipment does cause harmful inter-
ference to radio or television reception,
which can be determined by turning the
equipment off and on, the user is encour-
aged to try to correct the interference by one
or more of the following measures:
• Reorient or relocate the receiving
antenna.
• Increase the separation between the
equipment and receiver.
• Connect the equipment into an outlet on
a circuit different from that to which the
receiver is connected.
• Consult your local RadioShack store or
an experienced radio/TV technician for
help.
• If you cannot eliminate the interference,
the FCC requires that you stop using
your modulator.
Changes or modifications not expressly ap-
proved by RadioShack may cause interfer-
ence and void the user’s authority to operate
the equipment.

harmful interference, and (2) this device must
accept any interference received, including in-
terference that may cause undesired opera-
tion.
Note to the CATV System Installer: This re-
minder is provided to call the CATV system in-
staller's attention to article 820-22 of the NEC
that provides guidelines for proper grounding
and, in particular, specifies that the cable
ground shall be connected to the grounding
system of the building, as close to the point of
cable entry as practical.
INSTALLATION
You need the following items, not supplied
with your modulator, to connect it between a
video input source and your TV.
•
To connect the modulator to a video cam-
era, VCR, DSS receiver, or DVD player
,
you need one audio/video shielded cable
with three phono connectors at each end,
if the video source’s audio output is ste-
reo; or one audio/video shielded cable
with two phono connectors at each end, if
the video source’s audio output is monau-
ral.
•
To connect the modulator to your TV or
an A-B switch,
you need one RG 59 75-

ohm coaxial cable with F-type connec-
tors.
•
If your TV does not have a VHF 75-ohm
F-connector
, you need a 75-ohm-to-300-
ohm matching transformer.
Using AC Power
You can power the modulator using the sup-
plied 15V, 400-mA AC adapter.
Cautions:
You must use a Class 2 power
source that supplies 15V DC
and delivers at least 400 mA.
Its center tip must be set to positive and
its plug must fit the modulator's 12 V DC
jack. The supplied adapter meets these
specifications. Using an adapter that
does not meet these specifications could
damage the modulator or the adapter.
• Always connect the AC adapter to the
modulator before you connect it to AC
power. When you finish, disconnect the
adapter from AC power before you dis-
connect it from the modulator.
Follow these steps to connect the adapter.
1. Connect the adapter’s barrel plug into the
modulator’s 12 V DC jack.
2. Plug the adapter into an AC outlet.
VCR, DSS Receiver, DVD Player
Connect any audio/video source to the modu-
lator’s AUDIO IN L/R and VIDEO IN with an au-
dio/video shielded cable. Make sure AUDIO IN
L/R and VIDEO IN are connected to corre-
sponding input jacks on the audio/video
source. The modulator is color-coded. Con-
nect the modulator’s TO TV to the TV with a
coax cable.
Video Camera Application
Insert the camera’s video cable into VIDEO IN
on the modulator. Connect the modulator’s TO
TV to the TV with RG59 coax cable.
Single TV Application
Connect the modulator’s TO TV to the TV with
RG 59 coax cable.
Note: To use the modulator with a cable/an-
tenna system, use the supplied high isolation
A-B switch to eliminate possible interference
with incoming cable/antenna signals.
OPERATION
Selecting the Mode
Press the mode button to display the mode
(CA for CATV, UH for UHF, Ir for IRC, or Hr
for HRC). To select other modes, hold the but-
ton for about 3 or 4 seconds until the desired
mode appears.
Selecting the Channel
When you have selected the mode, simply
press Up or Down to select the channel. The
selected channel appears on the display.
Note: When selecting a channel, you must
select a channel that is not being used for
transmission of data (audio/video), and there
must be at least two non-interfering channels
immediately below the selected channel and
at least one non-interfering channel immedi-
ately above it. For example, if you choose
channel 23, you must have two non-interfering
channels below it (channel 21 and 22) and
one non-interfering channel above it (channel
24).
