Getting Started ... Quick Start ...
– The following is a brief description of a standard programme search -
• Place the batteries in the remote control. Match the batteries to the + and -
signs inside the remote control.
• Press the bl e D B key on the remote control.
• Press the Power button to switch on the receiver.
• Using the CH key, select the field with yo r language and press the Menu key.
The Main Men now appears. Yo se this screen to make yo r programme settings. To get yo started as q ickly
as possible, we will skip the next steps. Yo sho ld follow all steps, however, if yo want to perform an advanced
search.
• Using the CH key, select Standard Search and press the Menu key.
Yo now see a window containing settings for two different satellites. Yo can start the search process immediately
if yo receive either or both of the preset satellites.
• Select Start Search sing the CH key.
• Press the Menu key to begin searching.
While the receiver is searching, yo will see the settings for each channel in s ccession. This process is indicated
by an aco stic signal.
Wait ntil the search has ended and the receiver displays the first programme.
If nothing appears when the search is finished, please read the following instr ctions.

1 Introduction
Thank yo for p rchasing yo r RADIX E P S I L O N 3 ci digital satellite receiver. In
doing so yo have chosen an appliance b ilt for the f t re, allowing yo to take
advantage of n mero s programmes and additional services s ch as electronic
programme g ides which will event ally replace conventional analog e transmissions.
Yo can also se the enclosed niversal remote control to operate an external analog e
receiver, a digital receiver, a TV and a VCR.
All RADIX prod cts are man fact red to the highest standards at o r ISO 9002
accredited man fact ring plants.
In the nlikely event that yo experience technical diffic lties with yo r receiver, please note the
following:
If it is necessary to ret rn yo r receiver, please send it together with all its accessories
and in its original packaging to yo r local dealer, from which yo bo ght it and incl de a
copy of yo r invoice or receipt as well as a detailed description of the problem. Please
ens re yo affix adeq ate postage to the package.

5 Installing Your Receiver
5.1 Before You Start
CAUTION:
Do not place the receiver near any heat so rces or in strong s nlight.
Protect all cables from damage ca sed, for example, by sharp edges.
This appliance m st only be sed with a mains voltage of 230 V (± 10%), 50 Hz.
Install the antenna in accordance with the man fact rers instr ctions.
The following information is necessary for programming the digital components:
- yo r time zone (= deviation from GMT – see appendix),
- s mmer time yes/no,
- pict re format for yo r TV,
- The appropriate LNB oscillator freq ency (referred to in the “LNB Local-Freq ency” men ),
- Programme freq encies and polarities for man al programming (available in satellite magazines,
specialist stores).

h rry and if yo already have experience programming receivers, yo can se the Q ick G ide to get
started.

• Use do ble-shielded coaxial cable to connect the LNB to the receiver.
CAUTION:
When assembling the F-type connector, make s re that no part of the inner wire-
mesh sheath to ches the inner core (see diagram below). Fail re to do so can
ca se a short-circ it and damage yo r receiver.

6 Programming your Receiver
6.1 Switching On
• Press the bl e DVB key to activate yo r remote control (See Section 8 for
details on programming yo r remote control).
The red LED indicator flashes briefly.
• Press the Power b tton on yo r receiver.
The ON message appears on the receivers display and the following screen
appears:

This men allows yo to programme yo r receiver. Yo will only need to do this
when yo set p yo r receiver for the first time or when adding new channels.
6.2.1 General Settings
• Using the CH key, select the first men option: General Settings.
• Press the Men key to confirm.

and change the receivers settings:

• Using the CH key, select the Lang age field and press the Men key to
confirm.
• Scroll thro gh the list of lang ages sing the CH and CH keys and choose
”De tsch”, ”English”, ”Français” or ”Italiano”. Now press the Men key to
confirm.
• Select the next men option ”Time Setting” sing the CH key and press the
Men key to confirm.
• Using the CH and CH keys, enter yo r local time zone to the nearest 30
min tes (deviation from GMT). For more information, refer to the time zone map
at the back of this g ide. Press the Men key to confirm yo r selection.
• Using the CH key, select ”S mmer Time” and press the Men key to confirm.
• Select either YES or NO sing the CH and CH keys and press the Men key
to confirm.
• Now select ”T Aspect Ratio” sing the CH key and press the Men key.
• Choose either 4:3 or 16:9 sing the CH and CH keys.
• Press the Men key to confirm yo r choice.
• Press the Exit key to close this men .
6.2.2 Standard Search
Before yo can receive digital programmes, yo m st first store them in yo r receiver.
• Using the CH key, go to the Main Men and select ”Standard Search”.
• Confirm this sing the Men key.

NOTE:
To make the search as easy as possible, yo r receiver already contains settings for
the two most commonly sed satellites: ASTRA and HOTBIRD.
If these settings are correct for yo r system:
• Select ”Start Search” sing the  key and press the Men key.
If these settings are not correct, yo can change them as follows:
• Select ”Satellite 1” sing the  key and confirm this by pressing the Men key.
• Select the correct satellite from the list sing the CH or CH keys.
• Press the Men key to confirm.
• Select ”Satellite 2” from the men sing the  key and press the Men key to confirm.
• Using the  and  keys, select yo r second satellite from the list. If yo are not
sing a second satellite, select ”No Satellite 2”.
• Press the Men key to confirm.
The next men option on the ”Standard Search” men allows yo to set the LNB oscillator freq ency.
Please refer to yo r LNB doc mentation for the correct settings.
• Select ”LNB Local-Freq ency” sing the  and  keys and press the Men
key to confirm.
• Choose the appropriate freq ency setting for Satellite 1 with  or  or the
setting ”Universal”.
• If yo cannot find the correct freq ency in the list, yo can enter the freq ency
sing the n mber keys.
• Move to the section on the right sing the  key and repeat this proced re for
Satellite 2 if necessary.
• Press the Men key to confirm.

NOTE:
The following settings apply to DiSEqC (Digital Satellite Eq ipment Control). Yo
m st have a DiSEqC switch installed on yo r system to carry o t these steps.
• Select the field ”DiSEqC” sing the  or  key.
• Press the Men key to confirm.
• Select the correct setting for Satellite 1 sing the  or  key as specified by the
man fact rer of yo r switch. If yo do not have a DiSEqC switch, choose NO.
• Move to the section on the right sing the  key and repeat the proced re for
Satellite 2 if necessary.
• Press the Men key to confirm.
The setting ”22 kHz” is set a tomatically so yo can proceed directly to the next
step.
All of the options (1-5) in the Standard Search men m st be filled. Once yo have
done this, yo can a tomatically search for all channels according to the settings
yo made:
• Press the  or  key and select ”Start Search”.
• Press the Men key to begin searching.
While the receiver is searching, a timer appears on the screen. Above this is a bl e
progress bar which indicates the freq encies being searched. In addition, the
following information is also displayed:
DF: .... - Satellite freq ency
SR:.... - Symbol rate
.../... - N mber of programmes fo nd / N mber of programme packages
New:... - N mber of stored programmes
When the timer expires, a message appears informing yo that the search has
been s ccessf l. However, if a message appears stating ”o t of range” or that the
search has failed, yo m st check yo r settings and correct them where necessary
ntil the search is s ccessf l.
• To close this men , press the Exit key.
6.2.3 Advanced Search – Finding Encoded Programmes
If yo want to receive encoded or encrypted programmes, yo m st have a Conditional Access Mod le
(CAM) installed. This mod le is sed to read the contents of yo a thorisation or access card (Smartcard).
Yo r receiver has two s ch slots and yo can se them both at the same time for different encryption
mod les.

• Open the flap on the left side of yo r receivers front panel.
• Insert the CAM all the way into the Common Interface Slot (CI Slot).
• Insert the SmartCard into the mod le with the chip facing pwards and away
from the receiver.
• Close the flap on the front of the receiver.
The Advanced Search feat re allows yo to program additional channels individ ally or to change existing
settings. Yo m st edit each men option separately for each gro p.
The proced re for creating settings is exactly the same as before. Simply change the settings as yo did for
the Standard Search making s re yo have all the necessary information before yo begin (see Section 5.1).
Open the Main Men and select ”Advanced Search”. The following screen appears
together with fields for changing settings:

Open the Main Men and select ”Decoder Stat s”. Press the Men key to confirm

• Open the Decoder Stat s men and select ”System Information”. Press the
Men key to confirm this.

6.2.6 Common Interface
This option allows yo to see which CA mod les are c rrently being sed in CI slots 1 and 2.
• In the Main Men , select ”Common Interface”.
Yo now see details of which cards are in the card slots - if there is a card in the
slot, its code version appears. If no cards are present, ”Not Installed” appears:

6.2.7 Checking the Signal Strength
In order to receive the best q ality signal, yo r satellite antenna m st be correctly aligned.
• Open the Main Men and select ”General Settings”. Select “Signal strength“
sing the CH key and confirm.
Providing yo can receive at least one channel, the following men appears on
yo r screen:

Signal Strength
The signal strength indicator is divided into three separate sections: red, yellow and
green. These colo rs represent the strength of the signal:
Red: BAD,
Yellow: FAIR,
Green: GOOD.
The following information also appears:
“(LOCK)” and a n mber for ”SNR” (Signal Strength) or
„(UNLOCK)” and „0.000” for ”SNR” if there is no signal.
As the strength of the signal increases, the aco stic signals which accompany the
on-screen information become shorter and more rapid.
• Caref lly adj st the position of yo r satellite antenna ntil the signal strength is
completely green.
Congrat lations! Yo are now receiving the best possible signal q ality.
If yo cannot find a signal, check all connections between yo r receiver and the
antenna as well as all receiver settings.
• Press the Exit key to close this men .

6.2.8 Editing Transponder Data
To ens re that f t re transponders and channels will be incl ded in the Standard Search, yo m st enter
the relevant information in the transponder list sing the Transponder Edit men .
Yo do not need to do this if yo have entered this information man ally sing the Advanced Search men .
Select Transponder Edit from the Main Men and the following screen appears:

The bar at the bottom of the screen shows which keys are needed for navigation.
• Select the satellite yo want to se and press the Men key to confirm.
• In addition to the preset transponder data, yo can also add additional data.
• Repeat this process for all settings. When yo have finished, press the Exit key
to ret rn to the Main Men .
7 Using your Receiver
Once yo have finished all of the basic settings described above, yo can begin sing yo r receiver.
NOTE:
Digital comm nications involve the transfer and processing of large amo nts of
data sim ltaneo sly. This means that there may be a slightly longer delay when
changing channels compared to traditional TV.
7.1 Switching you Receiver On
• Press the Power b tton on yo r receiver. Now press the Power key on yo r
remote control.

7.2 Switching to an Analogue Receiver
If yo have an external analog e receiver connected, yo can receive channels from it sing yo r digital
receiver.
• Press the A/D key on yo r remote control to switch from digital to analog e
mode.
The signal from yo r analog e receiver is carried thro gh yo r digital receiver to
yo TV and VCR (if connected).
The analog e signal is still carried even if yo r digital receiver is in standby mode.
Yo can still see and hear analog e programmes.
7.3 Selecting Channels
• Use the n mber keys to select the channel of yo r choice (see also
”Programme Lists” in Section 7.6).
NOTE:
Each channel has a fo r-digit n mber, for example, 0001 and so on. Yo can also
enter 1, 2 or 3 digits (for example, 1, 13, 135). In this case, the desired channel will
appear in abo t three seconds.
• Use CH  to move to the next highest channel. Use the CH  to move to the
next lowest channel.
• To go to the last channel yo visited, press the ”Last” key.
Each time yo change channel, the channel n mber, date, time and ”Channel
Change” are displayed on yo r TV screen.
If the new channel is on the same freq ency as the previo s one, it will appear and
the information mentioned above will be displayed. If the channel is on a different
freq ency, the message ”T ning HF Signal” appears. The new channel takes
slightly longer to appear.
The information displayed by the receiver remains on yo r screen for approximately
three seconds or ntil yo press the Exit key.
7.4 olume Control/Mute Sound
• Use the  or  keys to adj st the vol me.
• Use the M te key to m te the so nd:
• To restore the so nd, press the M te key again or press the  key.
The on-screen display disappears after a few seconds.

7.5 Listening to the Radio
In addition to television programmes, many broadcasters transmit their radio programmes in digital HIFI
format.
• Press the Radio key to switch from TV to Radio mode.
• Use the channel keys  or  to scroll thro gh the channels as yo wo ld in TV mode.
• Press the Last key to ret rn to the previo s channel.
• To ret rn to TV mode, press the Radio key again.
All programme list f nctions can be sed in both Radio and TV mode.
7.6 Selecting the Audio Mode
Several broadcasters transmit their TV programmes in different lang ages and a dio formats.
• Press the A dio key and select the field on the left sing the vol me
keys  or  to choose one of the available lang ages:

• Use the channel keys  or  to change the lang age setting.
• Use the vol me keys  or  to select the field on the right.
• Select one of the following options sing the channel keys  or :
Stereo (L+R) – left and right
Mono1 (L+L) – left only
Mono2 (R+R) – right only
Swap (R+L) – alternating
• Press the A dio key again to ret rn to TV mode.
