1.1ScopeofThisDocument
ThisdocumentshowshowtoinstallTerraWINradios,includingDistributionNodesandClient
Nodes.ForadetaileddescriptionofhowtoconfigureTerraWINradios,seetheTerraWIN
ConfigurationGuide.
1.2TerraWINOverview
1.2.1BasicDeployment
TheTerraWINsystemconsistsofameshofseveralsites,whereeachsitehasradiounits,with
eachradiounitbeingcalleda“node”.Thecompletemeshiscalleda“NetworkSegment”.
•Thenodesinthesitesofthemeshprovidebroadbandcoveragefromthebackhaulnet‐
worktotheareathatistobeserved.Eachsiteusualyconsistsof4nodes(radiounits),
whereeachareinstalledpointingatrightanglestotheother(90degrees),sothatall4
cover360degrees1.Eachofthesenodesiscalleda“DistributionNode”.
•Atleastonesitemustbeconnectedtothebackhaulnetwork.ThissiteiscalledthePOP
Site.Othersitesareusuallynotconnectedtothebackhaulnetwork.
WirelesstrafficisbroughttotheenduserfromaDistributionNodetoa“ClientNode”‐an
additionalradiounitthatisinstalledattheendcustomersite,whichcommunicateswiththe
closestandmostconvenientDistributionNode.
1. Somesitesmayhavefewerthan4nodes,usuallyattheedgeoftheservicearea.Suchasiteneednotcoverafull
360degrees.Somesitesmayhavetheradiosinstalledatanglesdifferentfrom90degrees,dependingonthecir‐
cumstances.
