9LOCAL/DISTANT SELECTOR (DX/LO)
This selector switch is incorporated to allow maxi-
mum reception in both weak and strong FM signal
areas. For normal reception conditions and when
receivinga widerange ofsignals includingweak or
distant stations, the switch should be set to the
Distantposition,whichwillallowmaximumsignalto
the receiver. When in an extremely strong (local)
signalarea,settheswitchtotheLocalsetting. This
will eliminate weak signals and suppress overly
strong signals so as to avoid overloading the re-
ceiver input. When moving out of the strong signal
area, return the switch to the Distant setting.
NOTE: TheLocal/Distant Selectoronly affectsFM
signals, and will have no effect on AM
reception.
bl AM ANTENNA TRIMMER
It is very important to adjust the Antenna Trimmer
foroptimum AMreception. Theantenna trimmeris
locatedon theright sideof thechassis. Adjust itas
follows:
1. Tune in a weak station around 1400 KHz on the
AM band.
2. Using a small screwdriver, slowly adjust the
trimmer for maximum output from the radio.
5AM/FM BAND SELECTOR
PressthisbuttontochangetheradiobandfromAM
to FM.
6MANUAL TUNING CONTROL
Rotate this knob to the left or right to select the
desired radio station. When tuning in a station,
always adjust the control so that you are receiving
thefullsignalandareonthecenterofthebroadcast
frequency. If the radio is off frequency, you could
experience noise and reception problems. The
pointer will move along the dial to indicate the
frequency to which you are tuned.
7FM STEREO INDICATOR
Thisindicatorwill illuminateduring receptionof FM
stereo broadcasts.
8FM STEREO/MONO SELECTOR (ST/MO)
During FM radio reception, this button is used to
select mono or stereo reception. Under normal
reception conditions, the unit should be left in the
stereo mode, indicated by the FM Stereo Indicator
7. If the stereo signal is too noisy for comfortable
listening,presstheStereo/MonoSelector toswitch
to mono reception.

NOTE: The Antenna Trimmer only affects AM re-
ception, and will have no effect on FM
reception. The Trimmer only needs to be
adjustedwhentheradioisfirstinstalledand
atany timea changeismadetothe vehicle
antenna (replacing the mast, etc.).
bm CASSETTE DOOR
Holdthecassettewiththeexposedtapeedgetothe
right and insert it into the cassette door. Depress
fully until the cassette is engaged and begins play-
ing.
NOTE: Observethe cassetteoperationcautionsin
the Care and Maintenance section of this
manual.
bn FAST-FORWARD/EJECT BUTTON
This button performs two functions. To eject a
cassette, simply depress the button fully then re-
lease. The cassette will eject and radio operation
will resume.
To fast-forward the tape, depress the button half-
way in to the locked position. To stop fast-forward
and resume normal tape playback, depress the
button slightly and release. Do not press fully in or
the cassette will be ejected.

NOTE: Never leave a cassette engaged in the
playerwhennotinuse. Doingsocancause
damageto thecassette and/ormechanism
of the unit. Always press the eject button
and remove the cassette when leaving the
vehicle.
bo CD INPUT
AnaudioinputjackforusewithportableCDplayers
islocatedonthefrontcontrolpanel. Usinganaudio
patch cable with standard 1/8" phono plugs (avail-
able at most radio supply stores), attach the audio
outputfromtheCDplayertotheCDinputjackonthe
radio. The CD player will now operate through the
audiosystemoftheradiousingthevolume,balance
and tone controls of the radio for adjustment of the
sound. Remove the patch cable from the CD input
jack to resume radio operation or cassette play.

bp FRONT PANEL RELEASE KNOB
This knob is used to release the mechanism that
holds the front panel to the chassis. To detach the
front panel, press the button so that the left side of
thepanel isreleased. Grasp thereleasedside and
pull it off of the chassis. To re-attach the panel,
position the right side of the panel in place first and
thenpresstheleftsideofthepaneluntilthemecha-
nism locks it into place.
NOTES ON USE OF FRONT PANEL
1. Make sure the front panel is right-side-up when
attaching it to the chassis as it cannot be at-
tached when up-side down.
2. Do not press very hard on the front panel when
attachingit tothechassis. Nomorethan lightto
moderate pressure should be needed.
3. When attaching the front panel, make sure the
right side is correctly engaged before pressing
the left side to lock it into position.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE
The radio portion of your new sound system does not require any maintenance. We recommend you keep this
manual for general reference of the many features found in this unit.
As with any cassette player, the cassette section of this sound system does require a minimum of maintenance to
keep it in good working condition. The following simple care and maintenance suggestions should be followed to
prevent malfunctions of the cassette system.

Cassette Care:
1. Purchase a cassettecleaning kitfrom yourlocal retailstore. Use it! Atleast every20 to30 hoursof operation
you must clean the cassette mechanism. A dirty cassette player will have a poor sound.
2. Do not use cassettes that exceed 45 minutes of play on each side.
3. Do not insert a cassette that appears to be broken, twisted or dirty or with loose or torn labels on it.
4. Always keep your cassettes away from direct sunlight or exposure to sub-freezing conditions. If a cassette
is cold, allow it to warm up before use.
5. Do not keep a cassette in the player when not in use.
6. Before inserting a cassette in the player, check that the tape is tightly wound on the reels.
Take up any excess slack using a pencil to turn the drive hub in the cassette (see diagram).

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
This unit is designed for installation in cars, trucks, and vans with an existing radio opening. In many cases, a special installation
kit will be required to mount the radio to the dashboard. These kits are available at electronics supply stores and car stereo
specialist shops. Always check the kit application before purchasing to make sure the kit works with your vehicle. If you need a
kit but cannot find it available, call our toll-free “HELP” line.
UNIVERSALINSTALLATION
1. Remove the detachable front panel if it is attached to the chassis by pushing the “Release” button. Slide the mounting sleeve
off of the chassis. If it is locked into position, use the removal tools (supplied) to disengage it.
2. Check the dashboard opening size by sliding the mounting sleeve into it. If the opening is not large enough, carefully cut or
file as necessary until the sleeve easily slides into the opening. Do not force the sleeve into the opening or cause it to bend
or bow. Check that there will be sufficient space behind the dashboard for the radio chassis.
3. Locate the series of bend tabs along the top, bottom, and sides of the mounting sleeve. With the sleeve fully inserted into the
dashboard opening, bend as many of the tabs outward as necessary so that the sleeve is firmly secured to the dashboard.
4. Place the radio in front of the dashboard opening so that the wiring can be brought through the mounting sleeve. Follow the
wiring diagram carefully and make certain all connections of the wiring harness are secure and insulated with wire nuts or
electrical tape to insure proper operation of the unit. After completing the wiring connections, attach the front panel and turn
the unit on to confirm operation (ignition switch must be “on”). If unit does not operate, re-check all wiring until problem is
corrected. Once proper operation is achieved, turn off the ignition switch and proceed with final mounting of the chassis.
5. Carefully slide the radio into the mounting sleeve making sure it is right-side-up until it is fully seated and the spring clips lock
it into place.
6. Attachone end ofthe perforated supportstrap (supplied) tothe screw studon the rearof the chassisusing the hexnut provided.
Fasten the other end of the perforated strap to a secure part of the dashboard either above or below the radio using the screw
and hex nut provided. Bend the strap to position it as necessary.
CAUTION: The rear of the radio must be supported with the strap to prevent damage to the dashboard from the weight of the
radio or improper operation due to vibration.
7. Re-attach the front panel to the chassis and test radio operation by referring to the Operating Instructions for the unit.
INSTALLATION USING KITS
1. If your vehicle requires the use of an installation kit to mount this radio, follow the instructions included with the installation kit
to attach the radio to the mounting plate supplied with the kit.
2. Wire and test the radio as described in Step 4 above.
3. Install the radio/mounting plate assembly to the sub-dashboard according to the instructions of the installation kit.
4. Attach the support strap to the radio and dashboard as described in Step 6 above.
5. Replace the dashboard trimpanel. -7-

6SYNTONISATION MANUELLE
La station peut être changée manuellement en
tournant le bouton. Lorsque cette commande est
utilisée pour sélectionner une station, toujours la
régler afin de recevoir le plein signal (exactement
au centre de la fréquence de difusion). Du bruit et
des problèmes de réception pourraient survenir si
la station est mal syntonisée. L’aiguille de cadran
se déplacera le long du cadran pour indiquer la
fréquencesyntonisée.
7VOYANT STÉRÉO (ROUGE)
S’allumera lorsque’une station stéréo est
sélectionnée.
8BOUTON SELECTEUR FM STÉRÉO/MONO
(ST/MO)
Lors de la réception FM, ce bouton sert à
sélectionner la réception en mono ou en stéréo du
signal radioiffusé. Dans les conditions normales,
laisser l’appareil en mode stéréo, indiqué par le
Voyant Stéréo 7. Si le signal stéréo est trop
parasité pour obtenir une réception confortable,
appuyersur leSelecteur Stéréo/Monopour passer
en mode de réception Mono.
9COMMUTATEUR LOCAL-DISTANT(DX/LO)
Cecommutateuràdeuxpositionsincorporépermet
une réception maximale dans les zones de signal
FM fort et faible. Appuyer sur le commutateur
lorsqu’une station faible (distante) est syntonisée.
Le signal sera ainsi mazimalisé au récepteur.
Relâcher le commutateur dans une zone de signal
extrêmement fort (local). Ceci éliminera tous les
signauxfaibles etsupprimera lessignauxtrop forts
afin d’éviter de surcharger l’entrée du récepteur.
Remettrelecommutateuràlapositiion“distante”en
sortant d’une zone de signal fort.
Remarque:Lecommutateurlocal-distantnemodifie
que les signaux FM.
bl TRIMMER D’ANTENNE
PourunréceptionoptimaleenAM,ilimporteauplus
hautpointderéglarlecompensateurd'antenne. Le
compensateur d’antenne est situé à l’arrière de
l’appareil, dans la cavité destinée à la cassette.
Régler le poste sur une station à signal faible,
1400KHz environ, et régler le compensateur au
moyend’unpetittournevisjusqu’àobtenirlaréception
maximale.

Tenir la cassette avec le bord exposé de la bande
vers la droite et insérer dans la fente de cassette.
Appuyer à fond jusqu’à ce que la cassette soit
engagée. Lalecturecommenceraimmédiatement.
Remarque: Vérifier que la bande est entroulée
fermement sur les bobines avant
d’insérer. Les cassettes C-120 (120
minutes)nedoivent pasêtre utilisées
car la bande s’emmêle facilement.
bn BOUTON AVANCE RAPIDE/ÉJECTION
Ceboutonremplitdeuxfonctions. Pouréjecterune
cassette,appuyersimplementàfondsurcebouton
puisrelâcher,cequipermettraderetirerfacilement
a cassette une fous éjectée. Ce bouton permettra
aussidefaire avancerrapidement labande afin de
sutertoutprogrammequel’ondesireéliminer.Pour
avancerrapidement,appuyersurceboutonjusqu’à
mi-course et verrouillage. Pour arrêter l’avance
rapide,appuyerdélicatementsur lebouton(nepas
appuyer à fond, ce qui éjecterait la cassette) et
relâcher. La bande recommencera à avancer à
vitesse normale.
bo ENTRÉE DISQUE COMPACT
Un jack d’entrée son situé sur le panneau de
commande avant peut être utilsé avec un lecteur
dedisquecompactportable. Brancherlasortieson
du lecteur de disque compact à l’aide d’un câble
rallinge comportant une fiche électrophone de 1/8
depouce (disponibledansla plupartdesmagasins
de fournitures radio) sur le jack entrée disque
compactde laradio. Lelecteurdedisque compact
fonctionnera ainsi par l’intermédiare du système
son de la radio, et l’on peut utiliser les fonctions
volume, balance et égaliseur de la radio pour les
réglagessonores. Enleverlecâblederaccordement
du jack entrée disque compact pour écouter à
nouveau la radio ou la cassette.

Ce bouton permet de libérer le mécanisme qui
maintien le panneau frontal de l'appareil a son
chassis. Pour libérer le panneau, appuyer sur le
bouton afin de libérer son coté gauche. Saisir
ensuite ce coté libéré et retirer le panneau
completement. Pour réinstaller le panneau,
introduirelecotédroitenpremierenensuiteexercer
une pression sur le coté gauche jusqu'a ce que le
mécanisme de fixation se bloque.
REMARQUES CONCERNANT LE PANNEAU
FRONTAL AMOVIBLE
1. S’assurer que le panneau avant est dans le
bonsensavantdelefixerauchâssis. llnepeut
s’enclencher sens dessus dessous.
2. Ne pas appuyer trop fort sur le panneau avant
pour engager le mécanisme. Exercer une
pression légère à moyenne.
3. In détachant le panneau avant, s’assurer de le
tirerparlecôtégaucheetnondirectementvers
vous. De même, lors de sa remise en place,
veiller à engager le côté droit avant
d’enclencher le gauche pour le bloquer en
position.

LECTEUR DE CASSETTES
1. Ne pas employer de cassettes de 120 minutes (C-120).
2. Nettoyerlemécanismededéroulementdelacassetteetlatêtedelectureauboutde30heuresdefonctionnement
et,entoutétatdecause,aumoinsunefoistouslesdeuxmois,aumoyend'unecartouchedenettoyagedisponible
dans le commerce.
3. Ne jamais introduire une cassette dans le lecteur si la température de ce dernier ou de la cassette est inférieur
du véhicule.
4. Toujours vérifier la cassette avante de l'introduire dans le lecteur. Si la bande est déroulée, la resserrer comme
indiqué dans le graphie.
5. Prière de lire le manuel avante de mettre l'appareil en route. Ce lecteur comporte en effet nombre de
caractéristiques et d'améliorations techniques qui ne vous sont peut-être pas familières.

DIRECTIVES D’INSTALLATION
Cet appareil est conçu pour être installé dans une voiture, un camion ou une fourgonnette étant déjà doté d’une ouverture pour la radio.
Dans bien des cas, il faudra un nécessaire spécial d’installation pour monter la radio au tableau de bord. Ces nécessaires sont vendus
dans les magasins de matériel électronique et les ateliers spécialisés dans l’installation des chaînes stéréo d’auto. Vérifiez toujours
l’utilisation indiquée du nécessaire avant de l’acheter pour vous assurer qu’il convient à votre véhicule. S’il vous faut un nécessaire mais
que vous ne parvenez pas à vous en procurez un, composez le numéro de notre ligne d’assistance sans frais.
INSTALLATION UNIVERSELLE
1. Retirer le panneau avant, s’il est fixé au châssis, en poussant le bouton de libération “Release”. Faire glisser la gaine de montage hors
du châssis. Si elle est bloquée, la dégager à l’aide des outils de retrait (fourni).
2. Vérifier la taille de l’ouverture pratiquée dans le tableau de bord en y insérant la gaine. Si l’ouverture n’est pas suffisante, découper ou
limer délicatement les bords jusqu’à ce que la gaine puisse être insérée aisément dans l’ouverture. Ne pas forcer la gaine dans
l’ouverture et éviter de la courber ou de la plier. Vérifier qu’il y ait suffisamment d’espace derrière le tableau de bord pour loger le châssis
de la radio.
3. Repérer la série de pattes de pliage situées sur le pourtour de la gaine de montage. Cette dernière étant complètement introduite dans
l’ouverture du tableau de bord, replier vers l’extérieur autant de pattes qu’il est nécessaire pour fixer solidement la gaine au tableau de
bord.
4. Placer la radio devant l’ouverture du tableau de bord de manière à ce que le câblage puisse être acheminé à travers la gaine. Suivre
rigoureusement le schéma de câblage et s’assurer que tous les branchements du harnais de câbles sont solides et isolés avec des
écrousoudurubanisolantpourgarantirunfonctionnementcorrectdel’unité.Unefoislecâblageterminé,fixerlepanneauavantetmettre
l’unité sous tension pour vérifier le bon fonctionnement (la clé de contact doit être tournée). Si l’unité ne se met pas en marche, vérifier
tous les câblages jusqu’à ce que le problème disparaisse. Une fois l’installation réussie, couper le contact, et procéder au montage final
de ce dernier.
5. Insérer délicatement la radio dans la gaine de montage, en s’assurant que la radio ne soit pas sens dessus dessous, jusqu’à ce qu’elle
repose complètement et que les pinces à ressort s’enclenchent.
6. Fixer l’une des extrémités de l’étrier perforé (fourni) au crampon à vis situé à l’arrière de la radio, à l’aide de l’écrou hexagonal fourni.
Fixer l’autre extrémité de l’étrier à une partie fixe du tableau de bord, soit en-dessus, soit en-dessous de la radio, à l’aide de la vis et
de l’écrou hexagonal fournis. Courber l’étrier pour rectifier la position si nécessaire.
ATTENTION: L’arrière de la radio doit être soutenu par l’étrier pour éviter que le poids de l’unité ou un fonctionnement incorrect dû aux
vibrations n’endommagent le tableau de bord.
7. Remonter le panneau avant sur le châssis et vérifier le fonctionnement de la radio en se reportant aux consignes de fonctionnement
de l’unité.
INSTALLATION À L’AIDE D’UN NÉCESSAIRE
1. Si vous devez utiliser un nécessaire d’installation pour monter la radio à votre véhicule, suivez les directives fournies avec le nécessaire
d’installation pour fixer la radio à la plaque de fixation fournie avec ce nécessaire.
2. Câblez la radio et vérifiez qu’elle fonctionne en suivant les directives de la section 4 ci-dessus.
3.Installez l’assemblageradio/plaque defixation surla partie située sous le tableau de bord selon les directivesdu nécessaired’installation.
4. Fixez la bande de soutien à la radio et au tableau de bord comme l’indique la section 6 ci-dessus.
5. Replacez le panneau de garnissage du tableau de bord. -17-
