6.2Generallocationrequirements
Whenselectingalocationforyourproductitisimportanttoconsidera
numberoffactors.

•Ventilation—oensureadequateairflow:
–Ensurethatproductismountedinacompartmentofsuitablesize.
–Ensurethatventilationholesarenotobstructed.Allowadequate
separationofallequipment.
Anyspecificrequirementsforeachsystemcomponentareprovidedlater
inthischapter.
•Mountingsurface—Ensureproductisadequatelysupportedonasecure
surface.Donotmountunitsorcutholesinplaceswhichmaydamage
thestructureofthevessel.
•Cabling—Ensuretheproductismountedinalocationwhichallowsproper
routing,supportandconnectionofcables:
–Minimumbendradiusof100mm(3.94in)unlessotherwisestated.
–Usecableclipstopreventstressonconnectors.
–Ifyourinstallationrequiresmultipleferritestobeaddedtoacablethen
additionalcableclipsshouldbeusedtoensuretheextraweightofthe
cableissupported.
•Wateringress—heproductissuitableformountingbothaboveand
belowdecks.Althoughtheunitiswaterproof,itisgoodpracticetolocate
itinaprotectedareaawayfromprolongedanddirectexposuretorain
andsaltspray.
•Electricalinterference—Selectalocationthatisfarenoughawayfrom
devicesthatmaycauseinterference,suchasmotors,generatorsandradio
transmitters/receivers.
•Powersupply—Selectalocationthatisascloseaspossibletothe
vessel’sDCpowersource.hiswillhelptokeepcablerunstoaminimum.
6.3IgnitionProtection

6.4EMCinstallationguidelines
Raymarine®equipmentandaccessoriesconformtotheappropriate
ElectromagneticCompatibility(EMC)regulations,tominimizeelectromagnetic
interferencebetweenequipmentandminimizetheeffectsuchinterference
couldhaveontheperformanceofyoursystem.
CorrectinstallationisrequiredtoensurethatEMCperformanceisnot
compromised.
Note:
InareasofextremeEMCinterference,someslightinterferencemaybe
noticedontheproduct.Wherethisoccurstheproductandthesourceof
theinterferenceshouldbeseparatedbyagreaterdistance.
ForoptimumEMCperformancewerecommendthatwhereverpossible:
•Raymarine®equipmentandcablesconnectedtoitare:
–Atleast1m(3.3ft)fromanyequipmenttransmittingorcablescarrying
radiosignalse.g.VHFradios,cablesandantennas.InthecaseofSSB
radios,thedistanceshouldbeincreasedto2m(6.6ft).
–Morethan2m(6.6ft)fromthepathofaradarbeam.Aradarbeam
cannormallybeassumedtospread20degreesaboveandbelowthe
radiatingelement.
•heproductissuppliedfromaseparatebatteryfromthatusedforengine
start.hisisimportanttopreventerraticbehavioranddatalosswhichcan
occuriftheenginestartdoesnothaveaseparatebattery.
•Raymarine®specifiedcablesareused.
•Cablesarenotcutorextended,unlessdoingsoisdetailedinthe
installationmanual.
Note:
Whereconstraintsontheinstallationpreventanyoftheabove
recommendations,alwaysensurethemaximumpossibleseparation
betweendifferentitemsofelectricalequipment,toprovidethebest
conditionsforEMCperformancethroughouttheinstallation.
