RCT-80AGL ESC INSTRUCTION MANUAL
RCT-80AGL BRUSHLESS ESC INSTRUCTION MANUAL
Thank you for purchasing the RCT-80AGL ESC. Please read this manual completely before using
this device.
1. PRODUCT INTRODUCTION – The RCT-80AGL offers:
A. Advanced design logic incorporating the latest high quality components.
B. Low impedance and robust 2mm stacked PCB construction for aggressive use.
E. Effective temperature compensation and protection capabilities.
F. Accurate over-voltage and low-voltage protection functions.
G. Super soft startup and superior timing capabilities.
2. SPECIFICATIONS
RCT-80AGL
Rated Continuous Current: 80A
Maximum Current: 90A (no more than 15 seconds)
3. FUNCTIONS
A. Safe start-up mode: when the ESC receives power, the throttle stick of the transmitter is
momentary disabled.
B. Low-voltage protection: when the input voltage is less than the programmed value, the ESC will
decrease the power input automatically in order to protect the power system.
C. Over-voltage protection: when input voltage is more than the programmed value, the ESC will
signal an alarm and then automatically deactivate; protecting the device from potential damage.
D. Over-heat protection: when the temperature reaches an unsafe level, the ESC will automatically
deactivate; protecting the device from potential damage.
E. Battery type option: there are two battery type options supported.
F. Start-up mode: there are three startup modes which can be used for all types of model aircrafts.
G. Transmitter compatibility: the ESC is compatible with all known brands of transmitters.
H. Safety: under normal operation, if the ESC loses the signal from the transmitter/receiver, the
ESC will decrease operation automatically and reset.

4. THROTTLE SETTING INSTRUCTIONS:
Throttle setting is ONLY applicable when using the ESC for the first time or using the ESC to
match a new transmitter
A. Turn on transmitter, move the throttle stick to the top point, switch on ESC power.
B. There is “di---” sound on brushless motor, when ESC is turned on.
C. Wait for 2 seconds, then brushless motor will utter “di---di---”, when the throttle reaches the top
point.
D. Move the throttle stick to the low point.
E. Wait for 1 second, then brushless motor will utter “di---”, when throttle reaches the low point.
F. When brushless motor utters“di---di---di------di”, when all ready.
G. Then you can use ESC.
5. PROCESS INSTRUCTIONS OF NORMAL USE
A. Turn on transmitter, move the throttle stick to the low point.
B. Brushless motor utters “di---”, when power is on.
C. Brushless motor utters “di---di---di------di”, when all ready.
D. The ESC is now ready for normal use.
6. ESC PROGRAMMING PROCESS
There are four steps:
A. Enter programming
B. Choose setting item.
C. Choose parameter item under setting item.
D. Exit.
A. ENTER PROGRAM MODE
A. Turn on transmitter, move the throttle stick to the top point, and connect the ESC to power.
B. Brushless motor utters “di---”, when power is connected correctly.
C. Wait for 2 seconds, then brushless motor will utter “di---di---”.
D. Go on waiting for 5 seconds, then brushless motor will utter “di---”, when program mode have
been engaged.

B. CHOOSINGA PROGAM MENU ITEM
CAUTION: When entering the program mode, the brushless motor will utter some tones circularly.
When you hear these tones, move the throttle stick of transmitter to the low point within 2 seconds
and enter the setting item, or brushless motor will utter next setting item tones. These tones are as
follows:
a.“di---” brakesettingtone
b. “di—di---” battery type setting tone
c.“di---di---di---” low-voltage protection mode setting tone
d. “di---di---di---di---” low-voltage protection voltage value setting tone
e.“di---” startupmodesettingtone
f.“di—di---” timingoptionsettingtone
g. “di---di---di---” set to default setting tone
h.“di—di---” exitsettingtone
C.ADJUST PROGRAM ITEM PARAMETER
CAUTION: The brushless motor will utter several types of tones circularly after choosing the
setting item. After hearing these tones, if you move the throttle stick of transmitter to the top point
within 1 second, you have chosen the setting parameter which corresponds to the tones being heard
and the brushless motor will signal with a “di---”, which indicates the ESC has confirmed the setting
and written it to memory. If you do not want to set up any other parameters, you can move the
throttle stick to the low point within 2 seconds to exit the programming item menu. If you want to
go on setting up another parameter, please return to the step of “Choosing a Program Menu Item” to
proceed.

8. SIMPLE INSTRUCTION OF EVERY FUNCTION
BRAKE SETTING
OFF: When the throttle stick of the transmitter is at the lowest point, the brushless motor will cease
gradually with rotation inertia.
ON: When the throttle stick of the transmitter is at the lowest point, the ESC’s control of the
brushless motor which will stop immediately.
BATTERY TYPE SETTING
Lithium battery: Lithium hydronium battery or Lithium polymer battery
NiMH /NiCd battery: Nickel-Metal Hydride battery /Nickel-Cadmium battery
LOW-VOLTAGE PROTECTION MODE SETTING
Decrease power output: when the voltage value of the battery is lower than programmed value of
the ESC, the ESC will decrease the power output. This operation will last approximately 10 seconds
and then the ESC will cut off the output power.
Close power output: when voltage value of the battery is lower than the programmed value of the
ESC, the ESC will cut off the output power immediately.

LOW-VOLTAGE PROTECTION VOLTAGE VALUE SETTING
When you set up the ESC using a Lithium battery, the ESC will identify the size of the battery
automatically.
LOW: the cutoff voltage of the battery is 2.6V
MIDDLE: the cutoff voltage of the battery is 2.8V
HIGH: the cutoff voltage of the battery is 3.0V
When you set up the ESC using Nickel-Metal hydride battery /Nickel-Cadmium battery, the
ESC will identify the battery discharge rate.
LOW: 60%
MIDDLE: 65%
HIGH: 70%
STARTUP MODE SETTING
FAST-START: The ESC will startup the brushless motor immediately within 0.5 second
(example - electric gliders)
MILD-START: The ESC will startup the brushless motor within 1 second
(example - electric helicopters)
SOFT-START: The ESC will startup the brushless motor slowly within 2 seconds
(recommended for most electric helicopters)
TIMMING SETTING
LOW: Recommend for use with brushless motors with 2 poles.
MIDDLE: Recommended for use with brushless motors with 6 or more poles.
HIGH: To increase the motor RPM, you can use this setting. However, some brushless motors may
not work reliably therefore is highly recommended to test the operation of the motor on the
ground first when using this setting before attempting any flights.
Remarks: It is recommended to use the most appropriate timing setting for your specific setup to
avoid potential damage to both the ESC and the motor.
