PREPARATION
POWER SOURCES
You can power the TV from:
• Internal battery power (using ten
C batteries, not included)
• Standard AC power (using the
supplied AC adapter)
• Vehicle battery power (using the
supplied DC power cord)
Using Internal Battery
Power
Your TV requires ten C batteries (not
supplied) for power. For the best
performance and longest life, we
recommend alkaline batteries, available
at your local RadioShack store.
Cautions:
• Use only fresh batteries of the
required size and recommended
type.
• Do not mix old and new batteries,
different types of batteries
(standard, alkaline, or
rechargeable), or rechargeable
batteries of different capacities.
Note: If you use rechargeable nickel-
cadmium batteries, you need a separate
battery charger, available at your local
RadioShack store.
Follow these steps to install batteries.
1. Carefully turn the TV upside-
down and gently press the arrow
on the battery compartment cover,
then push the cover in the
direction of the arrow.
2. Install ten C batteries in the
battery compartment as indicated
by the polarity symbols (+ and –)
marked inside.
Caution: Installing the batteries
with incorrect polarity can damage
your TV.
3. Replace the cover and insure the
tab on the cover locks into the slot
on the case.
Notes:
• When the TV picture shrinks,
replace (or recharge) the batteries.
• Battery life can vary greatly,
depending on how you use your
TV.

4
Warning: Dispose of old batteries
promptly and properly. Do not burn or
bury them.
Caution:
If you do not plan to use
your TV for a month or more, or if you
plan to use only AC or DC power,
remove the batteries. Batteries can leak
chemicals that can destroy electronic
parts.
Using AC Power
To use AC power, connect the supplied
AC adapter’s barrel plug to DC 12V on
the back of TV. Then plug the adapter’s
other end into a standard AC outlet.
When you connect the AC adapter, the
batteries automatically disconnect.
Caution: You must use a
Class 2 power source that
supplies 12 volts DC and
delivers at least 850 mA. Its center tip
must be set to positive and its plug
must fit the TV's DC 12V jack. The
supplied adapter meets these
specifications. Using an adapter that
does not meet these specifications
could damage the TV or the adapter.
Note: Always unplug the AC adapter
from the AC outlet before you unplug
it from the TV.
Using Vehicle Battery
Power
Follow these steps to power the TV
from your vehicle’s cigarette-lighter
socket using the supplied DC power
cord.
1. Make sure the supplied DC power
cord’s knurled ring is screwed
firmly onto its plug.
2. Plug the small end of the supplied
DC power cord into the DC 12V
jack on the back of the TV.
Caution: You must use
a power source that
supplies 12 volts DC and
delivers at least 850 mA. Its center
plug must be set to positive and
must fit the TV's DC 12V jack. The
supplied power cord meets these
specifications. Using a power cord
that does not meet these
specifications could damage the
TV or the power cord.

3. Unplug your vehicle’s cigarette
lighter, and plug the large end of
the DC power cord into the
cigarette-lighter socket. When you
connect the DC power cord, the
internal batteries automatically
disconnect.
Notes:
• Always unplug the DC power cord
from the cigarette-lighter socket
before you unplug it from the TV.
• If the TV stops working, check the
fuse in the DC power cord (see
“Changing the Fuse” on Page 10).
CONNECTING
ANTENNAS
Telescoping Antenna
You can receive VHF and UHF
broadcast signals by using the built-in
telescoping antenna, which provides
good reception for the TV.
Extend the antenna vertically to its full
length for channels 2 through 6 (VHF-
LOW) and 14 through 69 (UHF).
Extend the antenna to a shorter length
for the best reception of channels 7
through 13 (VHF-HIGH).
Outdoor Antenna
For improved reception, you can
connect a standard outdoor VHF/UHF
antenna to the EXT. ANT. jack on the
back of the TV.
If an outside antenna or cable system is
connected to the product, be sure the
antenna or cable system is grounded so
as to provide some protection against
voltage surges and built-up static
charges. Article 810 of the National
Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70,
provides information with regard to
proper grounding of the mast and
supporting structure, grounding of the
lead-in wire to an antenna discharge
unit, size of grounding conductors,
location of antenna-discharge unit,
connection to grounding electrodes,
and requirements for the grounding
electrode.
Notes:
• Your local RadioShack store has a
wide selection of antennas and
adapters to choose from.
16-3001.fm Page 5 Friday, October 15, 1999 3:25 PM

6
• For better reception in your
vehicle, you can connect a mobile
TV antenna to the television’s EXT.
ANT. jack. (Mobile TV antennas
are available at your local
RadioShack store.)
CONNECTING AN
AUDIO/VIDEO
SOURCE
You can use your TV to monitor an
audio/video source (such as a VCR,
camcorder, or laser disc player).
Connect the audio/video source’s
output jack(s) to the AUDIO INPUT
and VIDEO INPUT jack(s) on the back
of the TV.
CONNECTING
EARPHONES OR
HEADPHONES
For private listening, plug a pair of
stereo earphones or headphones with a
1/8-inch mini-plug (not supplied) into
the jack on the side of the TV.
Listening Safely
To protect your hearing, follow these
guidelines when you use earphones.
• Set the volume to the lowest
setting before you begin listening.
After you begin listening, adjust
the volume to a comfortable level.
• Do not listen at extremely high
volume levels. Extended high-
volume listening can lead to
permanent hearing loss.
• Once you set the volume, do not
increase it. Over time, your ears
adapt to the volume level, so a
volume level that does not cause
discomfort might still damage
your hearing.

7. Rotate VOLUME OFF/MAX to
adjust the volume to a comfortable
level.
8. To turn off the TV, rotate
VOLUME OFF/MAX
counterclockwise until it clicks.
TV RECEPTION TIPS
If the image is blurry, unstable or has
“snow,” the signal reception might be
weak. This can be caused by your
location or the telescoping antenna’s
position and length. Buildings with
steel construction can also cause
reception problems. Try changing the
antenna’s position and length. If this
does not help, use an outdoor antenna.
If the image does not fill the screen
during battery power operation, the
batteries are weak. Replace or recharge
the batteries.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE
Your RCA 5-inch Black and White Television is an example of superior design
and craftsmanship. The following suggestions will help you care for your TV so
you can enjoy it for years.
Keep the TV dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately. Liquids
might contain minerals that can corrode the electronic circuits.
Use and store the TV only in normal temperature environments.
Temperature extremes can shorten the life of electronic devices,
damage batteries, and distort or melt plastic parts.
Keep the TV away from dust and dirt, which can cause premature
wear of parts.
Handle the TV gently and carefully. Dropping it can damage circuit
boards and cases and can cause the TV to work improperly.
Use only fresh batteries of the required size and recommended type.
Batteries can leak chemicals that damage your TV’s electronic parts.
Wipe the TV with a damp cloth occasionally to keep it looking new.
Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong detergents
to clean the TV.
Modifying or tampering with the TV’s internal components can cause a
malfunction and might invalidate its warranty and void your FCC authorization to
operate it.
This TV has been manufactured to the specifications of RadioShack and is covered
by a limited warranty from RadioShack. If your TV is not operating as it should,
take it to your local RadioShack store or call 1-800-THE-SHACK for assistance.

10
CHANGING THE FUSE
If the TV does not work while using
vehicle battery power:
1. Make sure the TV is turned off,
then unscrew the knurled ring on
the DC power cord and remove
the spring to check the fuse.
2. If the fuse is bad, replace it with a
2-amp fuse (available at your local
RadioShack store). Do not use a
fuse with a different rating.
3. Replace the spring and the knurled
ring. Tighten the ring securely.
THE FCC WANTS YOU
TO KNOW
This TV complies with the limits for a
Class B digital device as specified in
Part 15 of FCC Rules. These limits
provide reasonable protection against
radio and TV interference in a
residential area. However, your TV
might cause TV or radio interference
even when it is operating properly. To
eliminate interference, you can try one
or more of the following corrective
measures:
• Reorient or relocate the receiving
antenna.
• Increase the distance between this
product and the other radio or TV.
• Use outlets on different electrical
circuits for this product and the
other radio or TV.
Consult your local RadioShack store if
the problem still exists.
