1 Terms and Conditions
You agree to follow RealmFive Terms and Conditions by
using RealmFive devices and material.
Read and follow all the instructions for installing Realm-
Five-Ready Davis AeroCone Rain Collector so it will func-
tion and perform properly. A best practice is to test the
Data Gateway and rain collector before going out to the
eld to ensure that everything operates correctly.
Site selection of the rain collector can impact the validity
of the data that is collected.
Follow the site selection and mounting recommendations
and guidelines provided by the rain collector manufacturer.
Disclaimer: RealmFive is not responsible for poor site
selection and installation of rain collector and is not held
responsible for management decisions based on data
collected.
RealmFive-Ready Davis AeroCone Rain Collector is splash
resistant but not waterproof.
RealmFive-Ready Davis AeroCone Rain Collector must be
installed in an approved mounting orientation to decrease
the probability of water entering the enclosure.
RealmFive-Ready Davis AeroCone Rain Collector should
not be immersed in liquid or buried. Improper installation,
product misuse, and unsuitable protection may cause
damage to the rain collector and void the warranty.

use taking care to remove all soil residue in the instal-
lation eld. Store equipment in dry, enclosed place.

tect your hands during installation

• Wear proper protective clothing.
1.2 Batteries
Do not mix batteries together such as type, chemistry, or age.
Battery life estimates are not guaranteed because of environ-
mental conditions of operation and initial battery conditions.
Do not heat above 85 degrees C (185 degrees F), burn, or
recharge the batteries. Extreme heat or cold may cause the
batteries to explode and damage or destroy the rain collector.
Do not expose battery contents to water.
Dispose of batteries and weather mote circuit according
to local regulations. Do not dispose of the rain collector or
batteries in re.
1.3 Maintenance
RealmFive-Ready Davis AeroCone Rain Collector is de-
signed for outdoor use, but it is important to periodically
check rain collector and weather mote for (but certainly
not an all-inclusive list)

instructions and guidelines for rain collector.
• Weather Mote
• Dry the rain collector off before opening if there is
any water or condensation on the enclosure.
• Inspect the case to ensure it is free of any damage or
cracks.
• Look at telephone wire and terminal plug to ensure
that they are not damaged and properly plugged in.
• Replace batteries as necessary.
• When replacing batteries, inspect the battery holders
to verify they are free of corrosion and clean. Proper
close and seal the mote lid ensuring an interior seal

cence d’Industrie Canada. Son fonctionnement est soumis
aux deux conditions suivantes: (1) cet appareil ne peut pas
provoquer d’interférences, et (2) cet appareil doit accepter

2 Installation
2.1 Gather InstallationTools
Gather tools needed for installation:
• Flags (if installing in the eld)
• Appropriate safety gear per manufacturer’s instruc-
tions
• Tools needed for rain collector installation per the
manufacturer’s instructions
2.2 ConrmGatewayInstallation
The rain collector needs the Data Gateway to send in its
data packets. Data Gateway must be installed before the
rain collector. See Data Gateway Installation manual to set
up the Data Gateway.
2.3 Install Rainbucket
Install the rain collector per the manufacturer’s instruc-
tions. Wait to cut the zip tie as per the manufacturer’s
instructions until step 2.7.
2.4 Cut Zip Tie
Cut the zip tie that is holding the tipping mechanism in
place. Pull the tab from the weather mote.
2.5 Observe LED
The device LED will repeatedly blink red-yellow-green-yel-
low as it boots. It will then blink cyan while it acquires time
and location via GPS.
While the device acquires GPS, it will also occasionally
ash magenta-green or magenta-red, indicating it is send-
ing radio packets.
Magenta-green means it received an acknowledge from
Data Gateway.
Magenta-red means no acknowledge was received. This
may occasionally happen if other devices are sending
packets at the same time or if there is short interference
with the signal. If every single packet is magenta-red, the
device needs to be mounted higher or closer to Data
Gateway.

the ditch to mark its location if you installed the rain col-
lector in the eld. This will help you nd the rain collector
easier if it needs to be replaced or serviced.
