GENERAL SAFETY RULES
WARNING Read all safety warnings and instructions. Failure to follow all the
warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.
SAVE ALL THE WARNINGS AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.
The term “power tool” in the warnings refers to your mains operated (corded) power tool or
battery operated (cordless) power tool.
1) Work area safety
a) Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered and dark areas invite accidents.
b) Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the
presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which
may ignite the dust or fumes.
c) Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool.
Distractions can cause you to lose control.
2) Electrical safety
a) Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way.
Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified
plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.
b) Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces such as pipes,
radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if
your body is earthed or grounded.
c) Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power
tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
d) Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or
unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or
moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
e) When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for

Original Instructions
outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric
f) If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a residual
current device (RCD) protected supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric
shock.
3) Personal safety

Install or remove the blade
Fig.2
WARNING: Always ensure that the jig saw is switched off and plug is removed
from the power point before making any adjustment.
It is recommended to wear protective gloves when inserting or replacing blade.
The jig saw uses blades with a hole fitting. When purchasing blades ensure you obtain the
correct fitting.
Hold the jig saw securely. Lift the protection guard.
Undo both retaining screws a few turns.
Insert the blade fully into the centre of the fixing block and retighten the screws firmly.
Keep the pressure on both screws even or the blade will skew in the block and cut at
an angle. Refer to the pictures.
CAUTION: The blade roller guide supports the blade when cutting and must at all
times rest against the back edge of the blade. It should rotate freely.
Lower the front guard.
Reverse the procedure to remove the blade.
Angle adjustment
Fig.3
The jig saw shoe can be angled to enable bevel or chamfer cuts. There are preset bevel
detents at 0° and 45° for quick adjustment.
WARNING: Always ensure the tool is switched off and the plug is removed before
making any adjustments or maintenance procedures.
1. With the jigsaw upside down on a solid surface use the hex key, stored at the base of
the power cord, to loosen the hex screw securing the blade guide assembly and the
shoe plate.
2. Move the shoe plate slightly back. It can now be tilted to the required angle (between

Original Instructions
0° and 45°) using the angle scale on the shoe plate.
3. Slide the shoe plate until the blade guide rests against the back of the blade.
4. Re-tighten the hex screw.
For accurate work it is necessary to do a practice cut first. Check the cut and reset the
angle until the correct cut is achieved.
The blade guide supports the blade when cutting and must always rest against the back
of the blade.
Dust extraction
Fig.4
The dust extraction outlet allows a dust extraction system to be fitted to the jig saw
permitting the efficient removal of dust whilst the tool is in use. The adaptor allows a
standard household vacuum cleaner to be connected to the outlet.
WARNING: Do not use a dust extraction system or a vacuum cleaner when
cutting metal. Sparks may ignite residual wood dust.

periods.

Original Instructions
Speed controller
Fig.6
Adjusting the speed to suit the application enhances cutting performance and saves the
blade from undue wear.
To determine optimum cutting speed first perform test cuts on offcuts of the workpiece
to be cut.
Rotate the speed controller, located at the back of the jig saw to set the blade speed.
Position “1” denotes the lowest speed.
Position “6” denotes the highest speed.
Pendulum lever
Fig.7
The pendulum lever has four positions. The first position (0) selects normal cutting
without pendulum action. The positions (1, 2 and 3) cause the blade to swing slightly
backwards and forwards as it cuts. This pendulum action increases the efficiency of
cutting, set the pendulum lever to one of the three settings (1, 2 or 3) according to
degree of pendulum action required.
Experiment on a piece of scrap material to determine the optimum pendulum action
setting for the material of the work piece.
Recommendations (non-committal)
- No pendulum action for: cutting sheet metal, plastic sheets; very fine cutting edges
- Low pendulum action for: cutting hard wood, plastics; fine cutting edges on wood
- Max. pendulum action for: cutting wood; if no fine cutting edges required
General cutting
Ensure that the blade is the correct type for the application and that the length extends
through the workpiece on the upstroke of the cut.
1. Determine how the jig saw is best configured for the job and make the required
adjustment.
2. Switch on the jig saw and allow the blade to reach maximum speed.

Original Instructions
3. Slowly guide the jig saw forward, building up speed as you go, keeping the shoe
plate against the workpiece.
NOTE: Do not force the jig saw. Use only enough pressure to keep the blade cutting.
Do not force the cutting, allow the blade and the saw to do the work.
Metal cutting
1. When cutting metal ALWAYS clamp down the metal workpiece.
2. Be extremely careful to move the saw very slowly as you cut. Use slower speeds
(Position 1, 2 or 3 on the Variable Speed Control). DO NOT twist, bend or force the
blade.
3. When cutting metals, suitable cooling/cutting oil must be used. Squirt the lubricant
onto the blade or workpiece at regular intervals during cutting in order to reduce
temperature on the blade.
4. If the saw jumps or bounces as you cut, change to a blade with finer teeth.
5. If the blade begins to clog when cutting soft metal, change to a blade with coarser
teeth.
6. For easier cutting, lubricate the blade with a stick of cutting wax (if available) or
cutting oil when cutting steel.
7. Thin metal should be sandwiched between two pieces of wood or tightly clamped on
a single piece of wood (wood on top of the metal). Draw the cut lines or design on the
top piece of wood.
8. When cutting aluminum extrusion or angle iron, clamp the work in a bench vice and
saw close to the vice jaws.
9. When sawing tubing with a diameter larger than the blade, cut through the wall of the
tubing and then insert the blade into the cut, rotating the tube as you saw.
5. SERVICE & MAINTENANCE
Always disconnect the device before performing any adjustment or
maintenance operation. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the

Original Instructions
manufacturer or its service agent in order to avoid a hazard.
Disconnect from the power supply immediately if the supply cord is damaged.
Take care not to expose this tool to the rain.
Cleaning
Avoid using solvents when cleaning plastic parts. Most plastic parts are susceptible to
damage from various types of commercial solvents and may be damaged by their use.
Use clean cloths to remove dirt, carbon dust, etc.
Lubrication
All the bearings in this tool are lubricated with a sufficient amount of high grade lubricant
for the life of the unit under normal operating conditions, therefore no further lubrication
is required.
