SAFETY
Information for the user
Beware of unexpected movement. The user
should remain outside of the full working envelope
of Probe Head/Extension/Probe combinations.
Handle and dispose of batteries according to the
manufacturer's recommendations. Use only
the recommended batteries. Do not allow the
battery terminals to contact other metallic objects.
In all applications involving the use of Machine
Tools or CMMs, eye protection is recommended.
Refer to the machine supplier's operating
instructions.
Information for the machine supplier
It is the machine supplier's responsibility to
ensure that the user is made aware of any hazards
involved in operation, including those mentioned
in Renishaw product documentation, and to
ensure that adequate guards and safety
interlocks are provided.
Under certain circumstances the probe signal
may falsely indicate a probe seated condition.
Do not rely on probe signals to stop machine
movement.

SIKKERHED
Oplysninger til brugeren
Pas på uventede bevægelser. Brugeren bør holde
sig uden for hele sondehovedets/forlængerens/
sondens arbejdsområde.
Håndtér og bortskaf batterier i henhold til
producentens anbefalinger. Anvend kun de
anbefalede batterier.
sikkerhedsblokeringer.
Under visse omstændigheder kan sondesignalet
ved en fejl angive, at sonden står stille. Stol ikke på,
at sondesignaler stopper maskinens bevægelse.

1-6 SYSTEM PERFORMANCE
OPERATING ENVELOPE
See pages 1-4 and 1-5
Natural reflective surfaces within the machine may
increase the signal transmission range.
Coolant residue accumulating on the OMP, OMM
or O-M-I windows will have a detrimental effect
on transmission performance. Wipe clean as often as
is necessary to maintain unrestricted transmission.
Peformance in ambient temperature range 5°- 50° C
(41°- 122° F) is shown on pages 1-4 and 1-5.
Operation in temperatures of 0° to 5° C or 50° to 60° C
(32° to 41° F or 122° to 140° F) will result in some
reduction in range.
WARNING
If two systems are operating in close proximity to each
other, take care to ensure that signals transmitted from
the OMP on one machine, are not received by the OMM
or O-M-I on the other machine, and vice versa.
OMM and O-M-I POSITION
To assist finding the optimum position of the OMM
during system installation, signal strength outputs
are available on the MI 12 interface. O-M-I signal
strength is displayed on an O-M-I multi-coloured
LED.

The O-M-I or MI 12 interface low battery LED will
light up when the battery needs to be replaced.
This must be done as soon as is practicable
following a gauging cycle.
To replace the battery, use a 3 mm hexagon key
to remove the battery cap. If battery cap is not
accessible, remove the OMP from the machine.
When replacing the battery insert the battery + end
first, then replace the cap. The battery cap screw
torque value is 1 Nm (0.74 lbf.ft).
If the OMP has been removed from the machine,
replace the OMP and recalibrate the probe system,
before commencing the next gauging cycle.

The MA4 right angle adaptor is

This extra versatility allows
the probe to reach otherwise
inaccessible workpiece features.
The MA4 screws into the OMP,
and is tightened with the
C spanner. The C spanner is
also used to tighten the LP2
probe in its mounting.
After the MA4 is tightened in
the OMP, the three screws A
can be slackened. The MA4
can then be rotated and set in
any position through 360°.
Finally retighten the three screws A.

SYSTEM OPERATION
OMM, MI 12 and O-M-I LED's continuously indicate system status during operation.
STAND-BY MODE/OPERATING MODE
To conserve battery life, the LTO2 is held in the
stand-by mode, until a switch-on signal is sent from
the CNC control, via the OMM + MI 12 or O-M-I.
The LTO2 is only active during the operating mode.
LTO2 SWITCH-ON
To initiate an inspection routine, the probe is
indexed to the tool cutting position, and switch-on
is commanded.
SWITCH-ON OPTIONS
1. Machine Start - Software M code command.
2. MI 12 interface manual start (OMM version only).
3. Auto Start - start signal at one second intervals.
The MI 12 and O-M-I are factory set to
machine start.
LTO2-OMP SWITCH-OFF (TIME-OUT OPTIONS)
A timer switches the OMP off, after a selected time
interval known as time out. Four time-out options
are available - 5 sec, 9 sec, 33 sec or 134 sec.
The LTO2 is factory set to time-out after 33 sec.
During the operating mode each probe contact
causes the timer to reset-on for a further 33 sec
(factory set)
or 134 sec
(optional)
, if no further
probe contacts are made, the LTO2 reverts
to stand-by mode after 33 sec or 134 sec.
(33 sec or 134 sec reset times apply to 5sec and
9 sec time out options if the probe is triggered).
Note: A start signal will also reset the timer.
DEBOUNCE TIME
When the probe switches off, there is a delay
before it can be switched back on again.
This is known as the debounce time.
Two debounce time options are available
- 5 sec or 9 sec.
The debounce time is factory set to 5 sec.
