• Follow instructions to wire the unit. Failure to follow
the instructions could damage the unit, cause injury,

• Be careful not to damage the leads. Prevent them from
being caught in the vehicle chassis or from being damaged
by screws or moving parts such as seat rails. Do not scratch,
pull, bend or twist the leads. Do not install them near heat
sources or place heavy objects on them. If leads must
be routed around sharp metal edges, protect them by
winding them with vinyl tape or similar protections.
NOTE: cutting the main wire harness, antenna lead or auxiliary cables
will void the warranty of your radio.
• Use the designated parts and appropriate tools
to install this unit. The use of parts other than those
supplied may result in internal damage to the unit.
• Do not interfere with safety-related vehicle components.

• Do not operate the unit for prolonged periods with
the engine off. Operating the audio system with
the engine turned off will drain the battery.

at a level at which you can hear outside noises such as
emergency sirens and train crossing warnings. Prolonged
exposure to high volume levels may result in hearing loss.
• This unit requires 12V to both the red and yellow power leads.

• This unit is designed for operation with a negative ground
12V DC battery system. Do not operate this unit with other
battery systems, especially an 18 or 24V DC battery system
or a positive ground system. If you have a 6V system, you
need to either convert to 12V DC or purchase a separate
inverter that would increase the voltage to 12 volts.
NOTE: The inverter needs to be rated a 8 amps or higher in order
for the radio to operate properly.

Once sure of the proper width, tighten (DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN)

the main unit to activate the shaft-control functions (see Figure 3).
NOTE: Each of the shafts can operate on either side of the radio
and are not left/right dependent.

Locate the three wire harnesses: Main Wire Harness, Power Wire

After doing this, connect the bare wire ends of your power and

your vehicle (see Figure 4, “Wiring Diagram” on page 10). Have
your radio installed by a professional if this part of the install is too

Installation Notes
• To prevent damage to the unit, do not connect the power
connector until you have completed the wiring process.
• This is a 12 volt negative-ground ONLY radio. If you
have a positive ground, or a 6-volt system, you need
to either convert to 12 volts or purchase a separate
inverter that would step up the voltage to 12 volts.
• Please note that the inverter must be rated at 8 amps
or higher in order for the radio to operate properly.
Rear AUX Input
The rear auxiliary input allows you to listen to any portable device
with standard headphone outputs. An example of an external
source would be a MP3 player, iPod®or iPhone®, portable CD player
or portable satellite radio receiver. To use this input, the auxiliary
cable must be routed to an accessible area during installation.

STEP 4: FINISH THE INSTALLATION
The RetroSound
®
Retro Classic is a universal radio solution designed to

3.5 inches wide by 1.5 inches high, which will be smaller than the
original radio opening in most vehicles. RetroSound

Most European and Japanese vehicles will use a faceplate (see Figure
6, “Faceplate” on page 13). The faceplate overlays the front of the
dash to cover the remaining space in the original radio opening.

through the shaft openings in the dash. Using the supplied washers and
shaft nuts (see “What’s In the Box” on page 3), secure the radio to the
GDVKVHH)LJXUH´%H]HOµRQSDJHDO NOT OVERTIGHTEN.
IF USING A FACEPLATE, load the radio from behind the dash and align
the faceplate over the radio shafts from the front. Using the supplied
washers and shaft nuts (see “What’s In the Box” on page 3), secure
the faceplate to the dash and the radio (see Figure 6, “Faceplate”
on page 13). DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN.
For added support, you may secure the rear of the radio using the
VXSSOLHGEDFNVWUDSDQGKDUGZDUHVHH´:KDW·V,QWKH%R[µRQSDJH
7KHEDFNVWUDSPRXQWVXVLQJWKHWKUHDGVLQWKHUHDURIWKHUDGLR
body and can be bent and adjusted to align with the mounting point
of the original factory radio behind the dash.

STEP 5: INSTALL KNOBS
Once your radio is installed, follow the steps below to ensure a

The included shaft covers may be used to cover up excess shaft
metal during your installation. They can be cut to any length to

There are six radio pre-sets for each radio band. For pre-sets one

listening to the FM tuner, selecting between LOCAL and DISTANT

that have too strong a signal.

The RetroSound®Retro Classic has the capability to receive radio
broadcasts from around the world. This sub-menu allows you
to adjust to broadcasts in your county. Factory default setting

between Europe (EUR), Australia (AUS), Japan (JAP) and Russia

10) Volume Last/Adjust
This sub-menu allows you to adjust the volume level at which the
radio will turn on. The factory default setting is VOL LAST, which
means the radio turns on at the volume level at which the radio was
turned off. VOL ADJUST allows you to pre-set the volume level
at which the radio turns on from 0-46, regardless of the volume level
at which the radio was turned off (see “Volume on” page 15).

This sub-menu allows you to turn the Digital Signal Processor (DSP)
