REVELL LWRc-8kW Quick start guide

1
AN AIR–WATER HEAT PUMP
FOR HEATING AND COOLING WITH A BUILT-IN
ELECTRIC BOILER
Model: LWRc-8kW
Operational Manual (7.4.2014)
•Read this manual carefully; failure to do so could cause irreversible damage to
your device
•The REVEL Company will not be liable for any damage caused by the
installation or the assembly of the heat pump in a manner that is
in contradiction with this Operational Manual
•The effective ambient air temperature must be between -20 °C and + 43 °C
•The temperature of the water entering the heat pump must not exceed 60 °C
On very cold days the built-in electric boiler or another heat source may be connected
(see the bivalence points on the chart below)

Important Information
1. In the case of using water or simply an additive mixture, it is necessary to
ensure the continuous operation of the circulator that causes the water to flow
through the LWRc-8kW. It is recommended to use a 5% industrial ethanol as an
additive mixture based on its extending of the freeze function and the radical
reduction in the tear strength of the ice.
2. When operating at low temperatures, the unit automatically provides defrosting,
which is accompanied by the drainage of the defrosted air-humidity condensate
in a volume of 0–1 litres per hour.
3. The device comes equipped with a heating cable that is in operation during
defrosting. It is functional to lead the heating cable loop into a sewer or a
drainage outlet, for example.
4. In the event of the accidental occurrence of poor drainage of the condensate and
the subsequent freezing of the heat pump, it is necessary to defrost the device by
means of a brief external intervention, e.g. using a tent and a heat gun.
It is necessary to protect the heat pump at the inlet of heating water by a
regularly cleaned filter
5. It is possible to purchase an installation kit (USP) for the heat pump that
implements both a protective and an operational function. When installing it
into an existing heating system with the possibility of the temperature reaching
more than 60 °C, its use represents a condition for granting a warranty for the
heat pump.

The Heat Pump Control
The HP of the LWRc-8kW type comprises a digital controller with a LED panel,
which is located inside the building. It is not possible to commission the device
without the controller and –as an anti-theft measure –a replacement controller is
supplied only against a damaged one.
The controller is used for setting the functions and the parameters of the heat pump.
The controller also displays error messages - see the table below. The device is
factory-set and the user should carefully consider changing the parameters. The device
can be controlled by using one of two options.
A) The standard (and recommended) control method is in accordance with the
temperature of the water entering the LWRc. Set on the controller in this case are the
required upper limit (Parameter 1) and the critical lower limit for switching on the
electrical source (Parameter 6). Hysteresis for re-switching the device after reaching
the upper limit is adjustable between 2 and 15 °C. By default the hysteresis for
switching off the electric boiler is set at 2 °C.
B) The second option is to control the device via a room thermostat, for which a
certain hysteresis is anticipated (see the wiring diagram). The thermostat, however, is
not the object of the supply. The device is protected from cycling by a 4-minute
interval. For this type of control, however, it is practicable to increase the required
value of the return water (Parameter 1).
The device displays the output temperature (Parameter C), which, in accordance with
the flow rate, may be cca. 3–10 °C higher than the input temperature (or, in the
cooling mode, lower). We recommend operating the device with a flow rate of
2,000 l/h, at which level it has the highest level of efficiency that corresponds to a
delta of cca. 3 °C. The device is equipped with a flow sensor and any flow
insufficiency may manifest as an error message. The device is fitted with frost
protection, which automatically starts-up the circulation pump when the exterior
temperature drops to below +3 °C.
The device is provided with the option of reducing the fan speed at night (Parameter
13).
C) Control of the device in the cooling mode enables its operation in floors or in fan
coils, the air-conditioning of the heat exchanger, for technological cooling, etc., in
accordance with Parameter 0. Every 20 minutes, in floor mode, it monitors the outlet
water temperature, and if this drops to below 15 °C, the device shuts down and
displays PP10 error message. This measure is necessary for protecting the floor from
the condensation of moisture e.g. when the water filter becomes clogged.

Installation Instructions
•The device must only be installed by authorised personnel.
•The unit is designed for a power supply of 400 or 230V/50Hz.
•Recommended protection for use with the electric boiler is 3F-16A/D, and
without the electric boiler 1F-16A/D.
The device should be installed externally, preferably vertically to the wall of the
building, in a position that ensures smooth air circulation. It is suitable to install the
device close to a drainage canal, 20 cm above the terrain. The unit should be mounted
to the bearing construction using screws and anti-vibration rubber mounts. Select the
area of its placement in such a manner that neither airborne nor construction noise can
travel into premises designated for resting in the owned or the neighbouring property.
Commissioning of the Heat Pump
•Check that the HP is properly shielded and no foreign objects are present on its
surface.
•Check that the unit is properly filled and is deaerated.
•Check that the water flow through the HP is supplied.
•Check the system’s connection to the electricity supply and its grounding.
•Turn on the heating pump. After several minutes the system should automatically
start operating.
•Check that the pump is rotating smoothly without making any unusual noises and
that the unit does not shut down at short intervals (in less than 15 minutes).
•Check that the HP is supplying thermal energy and notice whether there is any
increase in the temperature of the input or the output water.
•During periods of low outdoor temperatures undertake periodical check-ups of the
unit and in case of freezing, reset the time parameters for defrosting (this also
depends on the presence of any water surface in the area surrounding the system).
Maintenance
The LWRc-8kW heat pump is fully automatic.
•The input water filter must be cleaned periodically.
•Periodically clean any solid impurities and dust from the air section of the heating
pump.
•If there is anything amiss with the unit and if the customer is unable to solve the
problem, contact the supplier or our company for the remedying of the problem.
•The system must be operated with water that meets the requirements for heating
water (max. 7 degrees of hardness and a pH ranging between 7.8-8.5).
