COMP87 MB manual 4
1. Introduction
Comp87 MB is a multi-band compressor plug-in. In MB version of Comp87, the input
signal is divided into 3 bands (Low, Mid and High) and each band is being processed
separately. At the end these bands come together as a single signal and go through the
4th compressor. In addition to compressor there are saturation and stereo separation
controls.
Comp87 has a compress knob that automatically adjusts the threshold, input and gain
to make it easier to get the desired result just by tweaking one knob. Other controls are
also provided so the user can change them manually to suit their needs.
Two frequency separators, Low-Mid (LMF) and Mid-High (MHF), control the frequencies
in which the signal is being split in 3. Each band has its own set of controls like ratio,
compression, saturation, ON/OFF, Solo/Mute and etc.
Multi-Band compression is an essential part of modern mixing and mastering process
and we hope you find Comp87 MB a useful tool in your projects.
2. Installation
Download and extract the archive and copy the Comp87 MB folder into VST plug-ins
folder used by your host application. It's usually "C:\Program Files (x86)\VstPlugins " on
64bit systems and "C:\Program Files\VstPlugins" on 32bit systems. After doing so, in
some DAWs you may need to refresh or rescan the VST folder for new plug-ins.
Notice that few host applications do not support 32 formats of VST. In this case we
recommend a tool like JBridge to solve the problem.
Demo Version Limitations
The demo version is fully functional but the output will be silenced for 2 seconds every
25 seconds.
Registration
For your convenience we have implemented a simple serial protection method so you
can use the plug-in on any machine you own just by entering your serial number.
If you have purchased the Comp87 MB, click on the logo on top left corner of the
interface to open up the about page, enter the serial number we have provided, and hit
the register button.

3. Reference
Interface Overview
Notice that the behaviur of the knobs can be altered by using keyboard:
Ctrl + Click: Will reset the parameteres to a defined default value.
Shift + drag: Slower and more accurate change in the values.
1. Preset manager: Save and load presets here. Right click on the name to rename
and save current preset. Notice that presets are locked and changes will not be saved
unless you save it using menu.
2. Band Splitter: Two separators control the frequencies in which the signal is being
split in 3.
2a: Low-Mid (LMF). Drag the left half of the box up and down to change LMF.
2b: Mid-High (MHF). Drag the right half of the box up and down to change MHF.
3. View selector: Use this selector to navigate through 4 tabs of the interface.
4. Power switch: This is the main power switch that can be used to bypass all the
effects.
5. On/Off switch: Every band has an on/off switch to enable/bypass the effects for that
band only. However the output and width controls will be still active even if the switch is
off.
6a & 6b. Input and output: Input and output controls for the selected band.

7. Mix knob: Mixes the processed signal and the original signal (0 = dry & 1 = wet).
Each band has its own mix knob.
8 & 9. Mute and Solo: Mute and solo switches are available for 3 bands.
10. Width: Controls the stereo separation of the audio signal. Mid only (Value= 0),
original (Value= 0.5) and finally side only (Value= 1).
11. Value change display: Shows the name and value of the last changed parameter.
12. Version and Registeration status
13. Attack: Controls the time it takes to reach full compression.
14. Release: Controls the time it takes to stop comression after the signal falls down
below threshold level.
15. Compress: It's a combination of threshold, input and auto makeup controls. The
goal was to simplify working with the compressor and do all the work just by tweaking
one knob.
16. Meters: Input (In), Gain Reduction (GR) and Output (Out) meters will help
monitoring the audio visually.
17. Ratio: Controls the compression ratio (1:1 - Limit).
18. Makeup: Helps to keep the audio level in check. The output amp comes after
saturation, so makeup is great to control the signal before hitting saturation effect.
19. Saturation: This is very similar to a soft clip effect. It comes in handy when you
want to smoothly clip out the attacky results, coming out of the compressor.
20. Comp87 MB logo (about page): Click to display the about page.
21. RF Music logo: Click to visit rfmusic.net website.
21. +5 and -5: These are just quick buttons to set the input and output parameters to
+5db or -5db. You can also 'CTRL+ Click' on any knob to reset it to its default value.
