area adjacent t o it or t o lower floors of
thestructure.

A gas f ired wat er heat er should not be
inst alled in a space where liquids which
give of f f lammable vapors are t o be used
or st ored. Such liquids include gasoline,
LP gas ( but ane and pr opane) , pai nt or
adhesives and t heir t hinners, solvent s
or removers.
Because of nat ural air movement in a
room or ot her enclosed space,
flammable vapors can becarried some
dist ance from where t heir liquids are
being used or st ored. The open f lame of
thewater heater’s pilot light or main
burner can ignit e t hese vapors causing
an explosion or f ire which may result in
severe burns, deat h or propert y damage.

bat hrooms, bedrooms, any occupied
rooms normally kept closed, or in
out door unprot ect ed areas.
●Minimum clearance f rom combust ible
const ruct ion is 1ʺsides and rear; 3ʺ
from front of control; 12ʺfrom the
top.If theclearances stated onthe
Inst ruct ion/Warning Label, locat ed on

combust ible f loors, but not direct ly on
carpet ing. If t he wat er heat er must be
inst alled on carpet ing, place a met al
or wood panel beneat h t he wat er
heat er, ext ending beyond it s f ull widt h
and dept h at least 3ʺin all direct ions.
●If t he wat er heat er is inst alled in an
alcove or closet , t he ent ire floor must
be covered by a wood or met al panel. A
minimum of 24ʺclearance from t he
front and top should beavailablefor
adequat e inspect ion and servicing.
