SAFETY INFORMATION
Donot store flammableliquids onornear thiswaterheater,
keep flammable materials such as towels and curtains 1
metreawayfromthis heater.
Donot leavetheheateroperatingwhenthekitchenareais
unattended.
Donotcoverthe flueoutlet.
*Covering the outletmay causeunsafecombustion orfire.
*Thismaycausetheunsafecombustionpreventiondevice
to operate.
The room must be correctly ventilated (air supply and
exhaust)whenthisheater isinuse.
Donot use theheater for over10 mins continuously. Where
there is no ventilation, CO may be produced. Lack of
ventilation may cause the unsafe combustion prevention
devicetoputtheflameout. Turntheapplianceoff.
Donotusethis waterheaterina bathroom.
Be particularly careful to provide sufficient ventilaton.
An open kerosene heater may cause the unsafe
combustionpreventiondevicetoturntheheateroff. Natural
air(oxygen)isnecessary forsafecombustion.
Ifyoususpect thatthereis agasleak, turnoffthe gas atthe
main cock, ventilate the room and call your local gas
supplier.
Donotsearchforleakswithmatchesornakedflames.
Do not operate electrical equipment if there is a sme ll of
gas.
Thisheater isnot designedto beused asa multipoint
(controlledfromremotewatertaps).
Useonlywiththe outlettubesuppliedby Rinnai.

accessories,other thanthose supplied

•Youcannotusethe unitifgasor water supplyisinterrupted.
•Whenthe water supplyis reinstated, positionthe control knobto “water” and , after
confirmingthatwaterisrunning,followtheoperating instructions furtherdown thispage.
•Inthecaseofabnormalcombustion,odour,ornoise,stopuse,closethegasvalve,and
referto“FaultFinding” on page 13.
•Pleaseensurethatthe operationbuttonispushed to turntheunitoff after use. Also
closethegasvalveifthisheater is tobe leftfor longperiods.
•Donotusethe unitexcepttosupply hot water.
•Donotconnectto a hot watersupplypipeorattachadraintotheoutgoingwaterpipe.
•Donotusefor bathwater,orextended periods. (The unitwillturnoff after
15-20mins).
CAUTION-TO Avoid Burns: After using the heater at the
“BOIL” setting return the control to a lower temperature
setting,thiswillreducetheriskofburnstothenextperson.
Do not touch anything apart from the control knob and
changeover lever immediately after or during use as the
exhaustand surrounding frontcover, and ignition window
arehot.
FREEZING-Thewater should bedrained from this heater
iffreezingtemperaturesare expected.
Ifyou areunsure aboutthe operationof thisheater, contact
Rinnaioryouragent.
THIS APPLIANCE MUST BE INSTALLED BY AN
AUTHORISEDPERSON.
CUSTOMER OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Insertbatteriesasshown. Eachbatteryshouldbeinserted
in the opposite direction. The battery case is on the
bottomleftoftheunit. Whenopeningorclosingthebattery
caselid, turnthe orangeknob 90°.
Takecare toinsert thebatteries correctly. (2x 1,1.5V)
Thisheaterwillnot operatewithoutbatteries.

Check that water is available at the heater before first
ignition. (Turnthe control tothe “cold”positionand push to
checkwater flow,then pushthe knobagain tostop water
flow,thenreturnittoahotwaterposition.
Fullyopenthegas valveontheunit. Do not openanyother
gasvalvewhentheroom’s gasvalve isopen.
TO TURN ON:Push the control knob. The burner will
igniteandhotwaterwillflow. Ignitioncanbecheckedinthe
confirmationwindow.
TO TURN OFF:Pushthebuttonagain,andrelease.
Gasand waterwillstopautomatically.
If the water trickles out a few seconds after the water is
turned off, it is not a fault. Face the hot water outlet pipe
downsothewatercanflowoutstraightandthetricklingwill
lessen.
TEMPERATURE CONTROL
To increase the temperature of the water, turn the control
clockwise,to decreaseit,anticlockwise. (The waterflow
willdecreaseasthe temperatureincreases).
CAPACITY CHANGEOVER
Whenwatertemperatureishigh(inSummeretc.)turnthe
capacitychangeoverlevelto “low”. Thesewill lessengas
flow and lower water temperature. When water
temperatureis low (inWinter etc.)turnthe leverto“high”.
This will increase gas flow and increase water
temperature.
COLD WATER ONLY
Turnthe controlto the“COLD” position, and pushthebut-
ton. Inthiscase,water flowswithoutignition. Ifthe control
knobispositionedinanyotherposition,hotwaterwillflow
out. Tostoptheflow,pushthebuttonagain.
BOILING WATER
Turnthecontrolto“high”(Summer) or “high”(Winter). Use
the“Summer” positioningwhenseasonaltemperaturesare
high and the “Winter” positioning when seasonal
temperaturearelow.
Ifthere istoo muchsteam, orover-boiling, turnthe control
backslightly.
Turnthe capacitychangeover leverto “high”.
Inthe“high” positioningthefollowingtemperaturescanbe
reached:
“Summer”:Water temperature +=60°C
“Winter”:Water temperature +=80°C
LOW HIGH

WARNING
The plastic control adaptor helps to prevent spurting of
boilingwater, DONOTremoveitwhenusingthisheaterfor
boilingwater.
Donotadjustthe plasticoutlettubeof the heaterwhilethe
wateris boiling. Thetube is HOT.
Returnthe temperature controlto alowersetting afteruse
toavoidtherisk ofburns.
KITCHEN SHOWER USE:
Turnthechangeoverswitch ontheshowerhead to 1 for a
straightwater flowand to 2 for ashower flowas shown.
Always use the straight out flow for high temperature
requirements.
WARNING: Donotforcefullybendtheshowerhead,itmay
cause leaks or a bent pipe. Do not take off the shower
headforusinghot waterasspraymay cause burns.
TO DRAIN THE HEATER
(iffreezingconditionsareexpected).
1. Turnthewaterandgasoffatthecontrolvalves.
2. Changetheshowertothestraightmodeandbendthe
outlet tube straight.
3. Turnthe temperature controlto the middle “COLD”
position.
4. Loosenthedrainplug,thentakeoutthewaterfilter
and drain all water.
5. Turnthecontrolknob tocold,andleave the water
valveand waterfilter off, untilnext used.
When the control knob is difficult to turn or can not be
positioned to “high”it is frozen. Do not use the unit until it
hasdefrosted. When next inuse, close thedrain valve and
replace the filter, turn the control knob to “high”, open the
watervalve andconfirmwaterflow. Checkthatwaterstops
when turned off. Turn the control knob to “low” and open
gas valve before reusing.

MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING
Donot useharsh abrasivesor solventsto cleanthe water
heater.
Useasoft,damp clothandneutraldetergent.
Donotdisassemblethe safetydevicesorgas circuit atany
time.
Checksaroundtheunit
-Is therea smellof gas?
-Is therea waterleak inthe unitor connecting parts?
BATTERY REPLACEMENT
If the spark speed slows down, replace the batteries as
shown.
(Batteries should last over a year, but this depends on the
typeofbatteryandhowmanytimesthewaterheaterisused.)
Pleaseuse twonew batterieswhen replacing.
Using the wrong batteries may damage the terminals or
cause batteries to leak.

INSTALLATION
This water heater must be installed by an authorised
person according to regulations of the local supply
authority.
1. Donotinstallinanareawherestrongchemicalssuch
aschlorine arestored. Strongchemicals cancause
damageto theheater exchanger causingthe unsafe
combustionpreventiondeviceto fail.
2. Donot installdirectly abovecooking appliances.
3. Donot installin unusuallydraughty position.
Thisheater isNOT designed foroutdoor installation.
4. Theinstallationmustcomplywithalllocalregulations.
Theventilation inthe roomwhere theheater isto be
installedmustcomplywithlocalregulations.
5. Theheater isbest installed at eye level, provided the
requiredclearancescanbe maintained.
Clearancesshownmustbemaintainedatalltimes.
6. Thewallmustbestrongenoughtosupporttheheater
(10kg).
7. Waterpressure mustbe between0.8kg/cm² and
5.0kg/cm²/78-490kPa.
8. Connections (Gas and Water) are R1/2”(15mm)
9. Pipesizing andmaterialsof gasmust be correct.
Checka pipe sizingchart if in doubt.
10. Ensureapplianceissuitable fortheavailablegas
supply.
Ensureallconnectionsare tightenedwithaspanner.

There may be cases of colour due to the concentration of
kitchen vapour changes where the unit hangs beneath
painted ceilings, fluorescent lighting, cupboards etc, so
attachingaheatshield isrecommended.
Theunit should haveover 60cmclearancein frontandover
45mmtothesides.
Fitwater outletto themiddle bottomof theunit andtighten thenut asshown.
Clear all filings, swarf etc from both water and gas lines, then connect the water and gas.
Check the unit is not too close to combustibles, nothing obstructing daily use and
maintenance, that accessories have been installed correctly, and that the unit is firmly
attached.
When installation is completed thoroughly test the operation of the appliance, check gas
pressuresandcarefullyleaktestall gas jointsusingasoapandwatersolution. Do Not Use
ANakedFlame. Refitanypanelsthathavebeenremovedtheninstructthecustomeronthe
useand operationof theappliance.
