Description:
The rinLINK provides an optical serial connection onto the front of an indicator and a USB
connection to your computer.
Driver Installation:
When using a USB rinLINK for the first time on a PC, the driver will have to be loaded. The driver is
located in https://www.rinstrum.com/support/general-reference/
Connect the USB end of rinLINK to PC and optical head to unit for connection.
The serial connection can now be used to:
-Reflash the unit with new firmware (refer to manual R000-613)
-Provide a connection to the PC running Viewer (refer to R000-612 Viewer Manual) for quick
indicator configuration – both rinLINK and Viewer software is in the download section

Driver Support:
The current rinLINK drivers will support the following Windows operating systems both 32bit and
64bit:
•Windows XP SP2 and above
•Windows Vista
•Windows 7
•Windows 8 and 8.1
•Windows 10
•Windows 11
Note for Windows 11
Existing rinLINK cables with Windows 11
To use a rinLINK cable (pre-2023) with no white dot with Windows 11, an older driver must be used
that is not aware of Windows 11.

Windows update problems with existing rinLINKs
Depending on the Windows update settings on your machine, it may be found that the rinLINK
cable stops working after a Windows update. This is because Windows may automatically update
your driver to the latest versions which causes the incompatibility issue with Windows 11.
To resolve this, please follow the original instructions and re-install the older driver.
2023 updated rinLINK hardware
The new rinLINK cable including a Windows 11 compatible chipset is available from the end of 2022.
It can be identified by the white dot on the housing shown below and these are natively compatible
with Windows 11 and will not require the driver rollback procedure outlined above.
Note for Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 operating systems:
The older XA chipset in the rinLINK is not supported by Windows 8
and above and as such it is no longer supported, and it is
recommended that you upgrade your rinLINK.
When using an older device, you will get Windows Error code 10.
this is a hardware issue not a driver fault.
