3. Principle of Operation
China Ritar Power Corp.(Ritar) is a Chinese Sealed Lead Acid(SLA) battery company listed on
U.S. stock market NASDAQ. Founded in 2002, Ritar designs, develops, manufactures and
sells environmentally friendly Sealed Lead Acid battery. Ritar introduces overseas advanced
technology and adopts the world's most advanced production equipments and testing measures to
ensure product's long service life and high energy density. Environmental protection features
like cadmium-free is leading in the domestic counterparts.
Ritar is a high-tech enterprise headquartered in Nanshan District, Shenzhen, China, and has two
manufacturing bases in Shenzhen and Hengyang, with over 2000 employees.
Ritar has obtained ISO9001(Quality Control), OHSAS18001(Occupational Health and Safety),
ISO14001(Environmental Control), UL and CE certificates, and got state approval from Chinese

Ritar OPzV Tubular GEL battery complies with Germany DIN40742 and IEC60896-21/22 standards, the product
capacity ranges from 200AH to 3000AH.
OPzV battery is the single cell construction, the nominal voltage is 2V, take OPzV2-200 for example, “OPzV”
means stationary valve-regulated Sealed Gel battery, “200” means the battery capacity 200AH.
Oxygen recombination process is as below:

OPzV Series(Tubular Gel Battery)
In the later period of charging or over-charging the positive generates oxygen, and the negative
generates hydrogen. The negative plates adopts high purity Pb-Ca alloy to increase the
hydrogen overpotential and to inhibit the generation of hydrogen. OPzV battery adopts unique
GEL electrolyte technology, the Gel-forming material forms three-dimensional porous
construction which provides many small gaps (channels for oxygen recombination). During the
later period of charging, the oxygen generated by the positive reaches the negative through
these gaps and reacts with spongy Pb to generate H O which goes back to the battery. During

this process the battery doesn't lose any H O, Thus the battery can be well sealed and

maintenance free.
Step 2: The oxygen generated by the positive reaches the negative through the GEL
gaps and reacts with spongy Pb and acid to generate H O which goes back to the battery
2
system.
Step 3: Lead sulfate generated by the negative generates lead and sulfuric acid in battery
charging to join in the charging reaction.

● Positive Plate: The battery adopts tubular positive plates. The positive grids are made by die-casting technics with the
pressure of 18MPa and are cylindrical structure; more compact and offer good corrosion-resistance, an extreme high
cyclic expectancy and a long design life more than 20 years.
● Pole Sealing: Triple Seal(mechanical sealing+special sealant+epoxy glue). The first step is an O ring plus the
helical structure ensuring the battery is air-tight and does not leak; the second step adopts special sealant ensuring the
battery has no acid leakage; the third step adopts epoxy glue.
● Formation Method: Use the most advanced technology of internal formation to inject GEL once only. The production
process is more environment-friendly; the product quality is more reliable; batteries have better consistency.
● Electrolyte: GEL comprises classic quality fumed SiO2 , which is liquid sol when being injected and
the fully packed. The electrolyte finally becomes i no
flow, no leakage and stratification, and higher security.
Flooded electrolyte design, contains more electrolyte than AGM batteries ; space between plates and
separators is full of electrolyte thus means good heat capacity, good heat dissipation, overcharge resistant, stable
high and low temperature ,and avoid “thermal runaway”.
● Container:The battery container is made of high strength ABS. Container and lid are sealed together by quality
adhesives ensuring reliable sealing performance in service.
●Safety Valve: The High sensitivity safety valve has stable performance in flip-top vent plugs press; cooperated with
the flame arrester it makes the battery safer and have high recombination efficiency.

The OPzV battery’s conductance and internal resistance decrease with the capacity
increasing. They are dynamic parameters instead of linear ones and change with
temperature, SOC(state of charge) and discharge state. The internal resistance is the
smallest when the battery is fully charged, while the conductance is the biggest at this
time. The values listed below are based on the same condition.(The temperature is
about 25℃.)
Notice: When measuring the conductance or resistance, deviation may happen due to the
different contact state of the pole and the testing point, or if the measuring tools sensitivity
is different or the tools are from different manufacturers. The following values are
based on the battery being fully charged and in accordance with
IEC60896-21/22, for reference only.

Match batteries into battery banks, and group the batteries of the same or similar open-circuit voltage as a
bank. The voltage difference of a single cell is recommended to be a grade.

Check and make sure batteries are normal, then install batteries at the predetermined location (eg a battery
rack).

Do not install batteries near any heat sources (eg a transformer).
☆
Because batteries may produce flammable gas during storage, keep away from any devices with possibility
of sparks (eg a fuss) during installing.
Before connection, clean battery terminals and make them shine with metallic luster.

Be careful not to short-circuit battery positive and negative terminals with conductive materials.
In multiple use, make sure batteries are connected correctly and then connect batteries to the charge
or load. The positive terminals should be connected with the positive of the charger or load,
while negative with negative. If batteries are not connected to the charger correctly, the charge will be
damaged. Make sure there is no connection error.

Use insulating tools. The metal tools (such as a wrench) should be wrapped with insulating
tape and given insulation treatment.
Connect batteries firstly and then connect battery banks to the charger or load.
When multiple battery banks are to be in parallel connection, they should be connected in series
first and then connected in parallel.
The gap between batteries should be more than 20mm to ensure good ventilation.
Apply antirust agent (such as vaseline) on battery terminals before and after connection.
When batteries are installed, measure the total voltage of battery banks and confirm it is correct,
then load power.

☆Discharge capacity is lower than 20% of the rated capacity.
☆Storage time is more than 3 months.
☆A single cell's float charge voltage is lower than 2.18V/cell.
After 3~6 months of continuous float charge or when there are some voltage lag batteries
in a battery bank.
5. Battery Maintenance
5.1 Cleaning
☆Keep the battery appearances and operating environment clean and dry.
☆Do not cause static when cleaning batteries.
☆Clean batteries with a wet cloth. It's prohibited to use gasoline, alcohol or any other organic
solvents to clean batteries.
5.2 Inspection and Maintenance
