Product Warranty
RKI Instruments, Inc. warrants gas alarm equipment sold by us to be free from defects in
materials, workmanship, and performance for a period of one year from date of shipment from
RKI Instruments, Inc. Any parts found defective within that period will be repaired or replaced, at
our option, free of charge. This warranty does not apply to those items which by their nature are
subject to deterioration or consumption in normal service, and which must be cleaned, repaired, or
replaced on a routine basis. Examples of such items are:
• Absorbent cartridges
•Fuses
• Pump diaphragms and valves
•Batteries
• Filter elements
Warranty is voided by abuse including mechanical damage, alteration, rough handling, or repair
procedures not in accordance with the operator’s manual. This warranty indicates the full extent
of our liability, and we are not responsible for removal or replacement costs, local repair costs,
transportation costs, or contingent expenses incurred without our prior approval.

Overview
The 82-5202-XX email/text generator is capable of monitoring up to 2 sets of contacts and
sending out an email and/or text message due to the following events:
• a monitored contact opens or closes
• the generator is powered on
• the generator loses connection to power or WiFi network
One or two email.text generator modules are installed in a plastic housing that has a conduit hub
on the bottom. An AC power supply is installed to the left of the email/text generator(s). The
power supply’s AC input terminals are wired to a terminal strip at the bottom of the mounting
plate to make it easy to connect power at the installation site.

Installation
1. Select the mounting site. When you select the mounting site consider the following factors:
• Is an AC power source available?
• Is there enough room to open the housing door and make wiring connections (see Figure
2)?
2. The mounting feet and hardware to install the mounting feet are shipped in a bag inside the
housing. Install the mounting feet as shown below.
3. Position the monitor on a vertical surface at eye level (4 1/2 to 5 feet from the floor).
4. Use 3/16” screws through the slots in the mounting feet at each corner of the housing to secure
the housing to the mounting surface.
5. The contact terminal strip(s) and email/text generator module(s) are shipped uninstalled and
stored in the enclosure. Plug the email/text generator module(s) into the USB port standoff(s).
NOTE: Leave the contact terminal strip(s) uninstalled until the relay contacts have
been connected.

Wiring
1. Unscrew and remove the kep nuts from the AC terminal strip’s cover.
2. Route the AC wires through the conduit hub on the bottom of the housing.
3. Connect a line wire from the AC power source to the “H” terminal on the AC terminal strip.
4. Connect a neutral wire from the AC power source to the “N” terminal on the AC terminal
strip.
5. Connect a ground wire from the AC power source to the “G” terminal on the AC terminal
strip.
6. Reinstall the AC terminal strip’s cover using the kep nuts.

7. To wire the relay contacts, remove the contact-monitoring terminal(s) from the email/text
generator module(s) if plugged in.
8. Connect the two wires to the terminal strip as follows (see Figure 4).
a. Connect the common wire to the ground (bottom) terminal.
b. Connect the relay contact wire (normally opened or normally closed) to the “L” terminal.
NOTE: Disregard the middle terminal labeled “R”. The monitoring terminals
function only as contact monitors and are not used to power any components.
9. Plug the contact-monitoring terminal(s) into the email generator module(s).
10. For 82-5202-02 generators, repeat Step 7 through Step 9 to wire and install the second
contact-monitoring terminal strip.
11. Plug in power to the email/text generator.

Initial Setup
NOTE: If there are any errors or blank fields in a submitted form, the generator module(s) must
be reset by holding down the button below the terminals. Always check that information
is entered correctly before submitting forms.
1. Connect power to the email/text generator. The LED will light up green.
2. Press and hold the reset button on the left side of the generator module below the terminals.
Release the button when the LED begins flashing orange and a long beep sounds.
The email/text generator module is now ready for setup.
3. Navigate to the WiFi Networks screen on your computer, phone, or tablet.
NOTE: Android phones must be in airplane mode before connecting to the email/
text generator. If connectivity issues occur with another mobile device,
tablet, or computer, place it into airplane mode.
4. Select ProteusSetup-XXXXXXXXX. The 9-digit string will be unique to the generator
module.

5. After selecting the generator module’s network, the setup interface automatically opens up in
a browser window. Allow the page to scan for WiFi networks.
6. Select the WiFi network that the generator will connect to.
7. Enter the WiFi password (case-sensitive) into the text field.
8. Press “OK” to connect the generator to the selected WiFi network.

9. Select the time-zone and enter the primary email address.
NOTE: This email address will also be registered as the account’s username. To add
more email addresses for receiving alerts, press the “+” icon.
10. Press “SAVE SETTINGS” to submit all information entered. Allow 30 seconds for initial
setup to complete.

11. If the setup is successful, the buzzer will emit a long beep.
If the setup is unsuccessful, the buzzer will emit three short beeps and the LED will flash
orange. See “Troubleshooting” on page 20 for further instructions.
12. After successfully connecting the generator, a confirmation email is sent to the primary email
address entered in Step 9.

13. Click “Set Password for cloud login” and proceed to the next section.
14. For 82-5202-02 generators, repeat this procedure to set up the second email/text generator
module.
Accessing the Generator’s Cloud Account
Access to the generator’s cloud account is required for updating contact info (email addresses and
phone numbers), reviewing and downloading alarm logs, and configuring generator and alarm
settings.
NOTE: If a generator is set up with the same primary email address used for an existing cloud
account, the generator will automatically connect to that account. The following
procedure does not need to be performed for each generator’s setup.
1. Open the confirmation email sent to the primary email account submitted in Step 9.
2. Click on “Set Password for cloud login”, or paste the provided URL into the browser search
bar and press enter. Refer to Figure 5.
3. On the registration page, enter the primary email address as the username.
4. Enter a password, then click “Sign Up”. The generator’s website interface is now available.

Website Interface
After the generator and cloud account have been set up, enter cloud.proteussensor.com/ into a
computer, tablet, or mobile phone browser and log into the website interface.
1. Sensor List Item: The Home menu lists sensors connected to the logged-in profile. Each item
lists the sensor’s name, the most recent event, and the last time the sensor sent an update.
2. Profile: Opens a dropdown menu for viewing profile settings, terms of use, and logging out.
3. Share/Add Icons:
a. The blue arrow opens a window with a shareable link to a read-only version of the
generator’s main interface (not including the alarm logs or settings views). Links already
in use can also be deactivated.
b. The green “+” symbol icon navigates to the generator’s online store.
4. View Selection:
a. The bell icon opens the alarm logs view that shows all recorded activity.
b. The gear icon opens the generator’s settings view. For the list of available settings, see
Table 1 on page 16.
5. Alert Switch: This switch controls whether a message will be sent when a generator’s alarm is
triggered.

Updating Device Settings
The Settings view displays notification settings, contact and power settings, and spaces for
entering and updating contact information.
Overview
1. MAC/IP Addresses: Displays the generator’s MAC and IP addresses
2. Rewind Icon: Opens the Settings change history
3. Refresh Icon: Refreshes the Settings page with any recent events logged by the generator
4. Home Icon: Returns to the website’s main interface
5. Double Arrow Icon: Shows the next generator’s settings
6. Bell Icon: Opens the alarm logs view that shows all recorded activity

Generator Settings
The following table is a summary of user-adjustable options found on the Settings page:
NOTE: Changing settings or contact information of one generator does not automatically
change the settings of another generator. To duplicate preferred settings, each generator
must be adjusted individually.

Setting Up Email and Text Notifications
To activate text notifications, log into the generator’s website interface using the following link:
cloud.proteussensor.com/.
1. While viewing the Home screen, press “Settings” or the gear icon.
2. While in the Settings View, scroll down to the “Notifications” section of the page.
3. Click on the text field with the contact addresses listed.
4. Enter a comma after the last contact address and enter the phone number(s). Do not add any
spaces between email addresses or phone numbers.
For phone numbers, a XXXXXXXXXX@______ format is required, where the domain
name used in the blank field depends on the phone number’s wireless carrier. Refer to the
following figure and table for formatting and domain names.

Alarm Logs View
The Alarm Logs view shows all contact and status changes since the generator’s initial setup.
The screenshots in the following figure are from the desktop version of the website interface to
clearly display the Logs table and the Download Alarm Logs feature.
1. Download Alarm Logs: Downloads a .csv file of the generator’s alarm logs from one of the
following periods: 1 day ago, 7 days ago, or 30 days ago
2. Refresh Icon: Refreshes the Alarm Logs page with any recent events logged by the generator
3. Home Icon: Returns to the website’s main interface
4. Double Arrow Icon: Shows the next generator’s alarm logs.
5. Trash Can Icon: Deletes all alarm logs saved since the generator’s initial setup

6. Settings (Gear Icon): The gear icon opens the generator’s settings view. For the list of
available settings, see Table 1 on page 16.

• Ensure the network you are trying to connect to is a 2.4 GHz
network. The device does not support 5 GHz networks.
• Place the mobile device, tablet, or computer into airplane
mode. Android phones must be in airplane mode before the
generator can be setup.
• Move the device to within 10 feet of the router/access point
and try again.
Email/text sent but not
received
• Ensure the email is not caught by the spam filter or junk
filter.
• If an Outlook account is being used, check the account’s
inbox for the account verification email from Outlook.
Follow the email’s steps on verification.
