VR-5 Firmware Update Procedure
Version Check
1. Please check your VR-5 firmware version before downloading the archive file.
2. Press [POWER] to turn on the VR-5.
3. Press [MAIN MENU] to display the MENU screen.
4. Press [System] and [System] to display the SYSTEM SETUP screen. "Version"
at the bottom of the display indicates the version of your unit.
5. Press [MAIN MENU] or [VIDEO PREVIEW] to exit the SYSTEM SETUP.
6. Press [POWER] button to turn off the VR-5.
Update Preparations
Getting the update file
Download the latest “vr5_sys_v???.zip” file to your computer. Unzip it and extract the
"Update" Folder to your Desktop. This Folder contains the files to update your
VR-5.
Items to prepare for the update
Following items are required to perform the update.
•VR-5 itself
•SD CARD formatted on the VR-5 (1GByte or more)
•USB SD CARD reader or a PC with an SD CARD slot (Windows or Mac)
•The downloaded "Update" Folder
Caution when performing the update
•Don't use this system program for any product other than the VR-5. Doing so
may damage the data or system of your other product.
•We recommend that you save your user data (MENU PARAMETER) before you
perform the update.
•Never turn the VR-5 off during the update process - the VR-5 may not reboot. If
this should happen, contact Roland Systems Group to schedule repair. *** Users
are responsible for any failures caused by updating the VR-5 in the field. ***

Update Procedure
Creating the Update SD Card
1. Start your computer then connect the SD Card to a SD Card Slot (or USB SD
Card Reader) of the computer.
2. Copy the update “UPDATE” Folder into the root directory of the SD Card. ***
Do not copy the Update Folder into any other folders. ***
3. Un-mount the SD Card drive from your PC, then remove the SD card.
Update the VR-5
1. Insert the update SD CARD to the VR-5, and press POWER to turn on.
Immediately after pressing the POWER button, press and hold [MAIN MENU],
[EXIT], and [AUDIO SETUP] at the same time.
On the upper-left corner of SETUP/PREVIEW MONITOR LCD, the [ user update
(auto) ] message will appear.
Then release the buttons. Update process begins.
*** Wait for the entire set of updates to complete ***
2. At the end of the process, the message "Complete!" will appear. It takes up to
two minutes to update the VR-5.
3. Now, reboot the VR-5 and check the version.
4. Verify that the update was accomplished correctly and then turn off the power.
