Explanation of terms
The following terms are used as follows:
Lock
The term “lock” refers to the deadbolt in the main lock and the additional
locks, used to lock the door securely.
Door secured
The term “door secured” means that the door is secured using the latch
in the main lock but is not locked. Actuating the lever handle on the door
causes the latch to retract, allowing the door to be opened.
Door locked
The term “door locked” means that the door is secured by an unsprung
rigid deadbolt that has been pushed out of the main lock, and/or addition-
ally by other additional locks. All locking elements engage in corresponding
recesses in the door frame, or striker plates, the lock case, etc.

Security
Stipulated use
“Locking systems” in the sense of this definition are hardware for vertically
installed doors made of wood, PVC or aluminium and their corresponding
combinations of materials, which mainly have the task of closing and locking
doors.
“Closing” refers to keeping a door closed in such a way that it cannot be
opened by pushing or pulling but so that it is easy to open, for example by
using the lever handle. The latch is used to close the door.
“Locking” refers to securing the closed door by an unsprung rigid deadbolt
that has been pushed out of the door lock, and / or additionally by two or
more other locking elements, such as bolts. All locking elements engage in
corresponding recesses in the door frame, or in striker plates, the lock case,
etc. The deadbolt and / or the additional locking elements (e.g. bolts) are
responsible for locking. The deadbolt and the additional locking elements
are moved in order to unlock the door by turning the cylinder key and by
additionally actuating the lever handle.
The locking systems are intended to hold profile or round cylinders. The re-
quired dimensions and requirements for these cylinders can be found in the
technical documentation for the locking system. The locking systems are not
suitable for adapting to shape changes and changes to the seal as a result of
temperature differences or changes to the building.
The hardware in its entirety (locking system) must only be composed of origi-
nal Roto parts and in the combination specified by Roto for the profile series
and its frame / sash combination.
Using other parts which do not form part of the system can cause damage
which renders liability void.
The right combination, with permitted hardware and locking mechanisms
(e.g. key, cylinder) and accessories (e.g. striker plate), must be used during
installation in order to comply with the product’s stipulated use, in accord-
ance with the installation instructions and according to agreed DIN stand-
ards, including maintenance.
Doors for wet rooms and for use in environments with aggressive, corrosive
constituents in the air require special hardware. Mandatory legal regulations
must be complied with.
The stipulated use also includes compliance with all information contained
in the product-specific documentation, such as:
– These
installation, maintenance and operating instructions
– Product catalogues
– Information and specifications provided by profile manufacturers
(e.g. for PVC or light metal profiles, etc.)
– Applicable national laws and directives
Any use that goes beyond or differs from the stipulated use is considered
misuse.

Stipulated use
Misuse
WARNING!
Danger in the event of misuse!
Misuse and incorrect installation of hardware can lead to hazard-
ous situations.
Misuse – i.e. using the product contrary to its stipulated use –
of locking systems is considered to take place in particular where
– The introduction of external and / or unsuitable objects into the
locking system or the striker plate prevents them from operating
properly.
– Obstacles are introduced into the opening area and therefore
prevent the locking systems from being used properly.
– Work is performed on the locking system or striker plate or they
are otherwise impaired in such a way that the structure, mode of
operation or correct functioning are impacted.
– The extended locking bolt or the locking elements are used
contrary to their stipulated use to keep the door open.
– The locking elements have been installed or after-treated (e.g.
painted over) in such a way that they no longer work properly.
– Loads which are not suitable for the product and exceed normal
manual force are exerted on the lever handle connection.
– Loads which are not suitable for the product and exceed normal
manual force are exerted on the locking system by the cylinder
key.
– Inappropriate, e.g. significantly deviating or incorrectly set,
locking mechanisms are used.
– The required door gap is increased or reduced when adjusting
the door hinges or lowering the door.
– A double-leaved door which is not approved for this purpose is
opened by the passive leaf.
– The lever handle and locking mechanism are actuated at the
same time.
– Tools or aids which act as a lever are used to actuate the locking
system.
– Additional loads impact on the door leaf.
– Anyone grips between the door leaf and door frame when
closing doors. (Risk of injury!)

User information
Roto Safe C
Roto Safe C is the mechanical multi-point locking system in which the main
lock and additional locks can be locked by cylinder operation.
The locks are designed for use in main doors, apartment entrance doors
and side entrance doors.
The high-performance system concept boasts a variety of options for
security and energy efficiency. The additional lock therefore offers a wide
range of functions to meet specific requirements in terms of price or perfor-
mance, from basic functions to a 17-point lock. Further options such as
additional locking device or ID latch are additional possibilities for individual
requirements.
Roto Sil Nano standard surface
Roto Sil Nano coating technology offers the highest available level of sur-
face protection. Systematic quality checks with the most stringent testing
requirements ensure that each individual component in Roto Safe multi-
point locking systems meets our quality standards.
Corrosion resistance tests are continuously performed in accordance with
the standard guidelines for multi-point locking systems.
Extensive quality assurance guarantees a consistent level of high-quality
products.
Long-term durability without after-treatment is ensured if the product is
used properly, i.e. no damage to the surface and no use of aggressive
cleaners.

General instructions for use
Do not extend the locks with the door open and then push the door against
the frame.
Do not paint over the lock or locking elements (deadbolt, latch, etc.).
Various types of contamination in the upper area of the door leaf (e.g. plas-
ter residues) must not be wiped towards the lock (faceplate) – contamina-
tion can enter behind the lock faceplate of the lock and then block the lock.
Lubricate locking points (latch, deadbolt, additional lock) at least once
per year.
CAUTION!
Using incorrect lubricants may cause property damage.
Substandard lubricants can prevent the hardware from working
properly.
– Use high-quality lubricants.
– Only use resin-free and acid-free lubricants.
– Recommendation: use grease spray.

During transport and handling, the door leaf must be secured against the
frame using suitable supports (run-up blocks, wedges, etc.). Do not remove
the cylinder fixing, which is a transport safety mechanism, until you are
about to install the cylinder.
The lock area of the door leaf must not be drilled through when the lock is
installed (e.g. for protective hardware).
Install the cylinder without subjecting it to stress and align it 90° to the
door leaf.
Fit long plates and rosettes without subjecting them to stress.
