Rack Mount Kit Mounting Guide
This Rack Mount Kit Mounting Guide provides step-by-step
instructions on how to install the Ruckus Wireless ZoneDirector
5000 (ZD) or SmartCell Gateway 200 (SCG) into a server rack
using the Ruckus Wireless 902-0178-0002 kit. Both ZoneDirector
5000 and SCG are standard 2U form factor servers designed for
mounting in a standard EIA 19” server rack.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN
Before deploying your Ruckus Wireless product, verify that all
items listed in “Package Contents” below are included in the
package. If any item is damaged or missing, notify your
authorized Ruckus Wireless sales representative. Also, make
sure that you have prepared the required hardware and tools.
NOTE: Some standard EIA 19” server racks have square or
slotted mounting holes. The fasteners in this kit may not work
with these racks, requiring the customer to supply rack-mount
fasteners.
WARNING: Observe careful handling, kit may contain sharp
edges.
NOTE: Using sliding rails could result in non-compliance with
Seismic Zone 4 requirements of NEBS-3 certification.

NOTE: This kit may include extra screws, nuts and washers. You
may use the extras wherever required.
STEP 1: SEPARATE THE RAIL ASSEMBLIES INTO
OUTER AND INNER RAILS
These are shown as A in Figure 1 and B in Figure 1, respectively.
1Extend the inner rail (1 in Figure 2) until it locks.
2Press down the spring safety lock (2 in Figure 2) to release
the inner rail.
3Remove the inner rail from the outer rail assembly (3 in
Figure 2).
Figure 2: Separating the rail assemblies
STEP 2: ASSEMBLE THE REAR BRACKETS ONTO THE
OUTER RAILS
1Measure the depth of your server rack. Use this
measurement to adjust the length of the outer rail and
bracket assemblies.
NOTE: Leave the outer rail assemblies loose for now. You will
tighten them after the outer rail assemblies are positioned in
the rack.
2If your rack depth is between 23.25 and 34 inches (59.6 and
86.4cm), use four #8-32 x 1/2” pan head screw sets (G in
Figure 1) and loosely attach two long brackets (C in Figure 1)
to the two outer rails (A in Figure 1) as shown in Figure 3.
If your rack depth is between 29.5 and 34 inches (74.9 and
86.4cm), also adjust the short front brackets (part of A in Fig-
ure 1) by loosening the #8-32 x 1/2” pan head screw sets (G
in Figure 1), adjusting the front bracket positions as
required, and retightening these screw sets.
3If your rack depth is more than 34 inches (86.4cm), use four
#8-32 x 1/2” pan head screw sets (G in Figure 1)and loosely
attach two long brackets (C in Figure 1) to the two outer rails
(A in Figure 1) as shown in Figure 3.
Then remove the short front brackets (part of A in Figure 1),
and replace them with long brackets (C in Figure 1).

Figure 3: Attaching the rear brackets and outer rails
STEP 3: ATTACH THE OUTER RAIL ASSEMBLIES TO
THE RACK POSTS
NOTE: The two outer rail assemblies are interchangeable.
1Locate an outer rail assembly in a vacant 2U space the rack
with the short bracket toward the front of the rack. If the
measurement in Step 2 was accurate, then the rail assembly
should fit exactly into the server rack.
NOTE: Only use screws in the top and bottom holes of the front
brackets. Use three screws in the rear brackets.
2Get a helper. If you are using factory-supplied fasteners, use
two factory-supplied screws and a bar nut (E and F in Figure
1) and loosely attach the front of the outer rail assemblies to
the front of rack (Figure 4). Use three factory-supplied
screws and a bar nut and loosely attach the rear of the outer
rail assemblies to the rear of rack.
If you are using customer-supplied fasteners, loosely attach
each end of the outer rail assemblies to the rack with five
customer-supplied fasteners, two on the front and three on
the rear.
NOTE: Leave the outer rail assembly rack screws loose for now.
You will tighten them after the SCG or ZD chassis is positioned
in the rack.
3Once you have verified the rail assembly length, tighten the
two screw sets holding the outer rail assemblies together.
Figure 4: Installing the customer-supplied screws and a bar nut
STEP 4: ATTACH THE FRONT LOCKING BRACKETS TO
THE SERVER
1Remove the two front locking brackets (D in Figure 1) and
four #8-32 1/4” pan head screws (H in Figure 1) from the
package.
2Attach one locking bracket to the side of the server as
shown.
3Repeat for the other locking bracket.
Figure 5: Attaching a locking bracket
STEP 5: ATTACH THE INNER RAILS TO THE SERVER
1Attach one inner rail (B in Figure 1) to the side of the server
chassis, making sure that the narrow end points toward the
rear of the chassis.
2Secure the inner rail to the chassis using two #8-32 1/4” pan
head screws (H in Figure 1).
3Repeat these steps for the other side of the chassis, making
sure that the narrow end of the inner rail points toward the
rear.
Figure 6: Attaching the inner rails
STEP 6: SLIDE THE INNER RAILS INTO THE OUTER
RAILS AND SECURE TO THE RACK
WARNING: The ZD and SCG servers are heavy (40 lbs/18.14kg).
Two people should work together to lift and slide the server into
the rack. Ruckus strongly recommends against one person
attempting to perform this task alone.
1Align the inner rails (attached to the server chassis) with the
outer rail assemblies (loosely attached to the rack).
2Engage the matching rails, and then slide the server chassis
into the rack until the two spring safety locks snap into
position.
3Press down the two spring safety locks (one on each side).
See 1 in Figure 7.
4Slide the server chassis all the way into the rack. Make sure
that the rail assemblies slide smoothly. See 2 in Figure 7.
5Align the rail assemblies and tighten the screws holding the
rail assemblies to the rack posts.
6Use two customer-supplied rack screws to secure the chassis
and front locking brackets into the rack. See 3 in Figure 7.
Figure 7: Securing the server to the rack
NOTE: If necessary, make the front of the server flush with the
rack: (1) Remove the server and inner rails from the rack. (2)
Leave the front and rear brackets attached to the rack. Loosen
the screws holding the two outer rails to the front and rear
brackets (A and C in Figure 1). (3) Move the two outer rails back
in the rack as required. (4) Tighten the screws holding the two
outer rails to the front and rear brackets. (5) Replace the server
and inner rails in the rack (Figure 7).
Congratulations! You have completed mounting the
ZoneDirector 5000 or SCG 200 into your server rack.
