How to Install: Outside Mount
Let's make sure you have what you need!
What came with your blinds?
1. Track/headrail (if you chose a cordless tilt wand, this will come attached)
2. Vanes
3. Mounting brackets*
4. 1 ½" #8 hex head wood screws
5. Extension bracket (one per mounting bracket)**
6. One valance
7. Metal valance clips
8. Clear corner valance returns (two per valance)
What else will you need in order to complete the installation?
1. Rechargeable drill
2. Phillips screwdriver
3. Pencil
4. Tape measure
5. Ladder
6. Fasteners (if mounting into aluminum or concrete)
*Quantity will vary depending on width. Regarding mounting brackets- if your window is up to 54"
wide you will have two mounting brackets. If your window is 54 1/8"-84" wide you will have three
mounting brackets. If your window is 84 1/8"-108" wide you will have four mounting brackets. If your
window is 108 1/8"-120" wide you will have five mounting brackets.
**If applicable to your order. Regarding extension brackets- if mounting above the trim, you may
need to use extension brackets. These brackets are used with your mounting brackets to provide
additional space between the mounting surface and the blind. It is commonly used when there is a
raised trim, molding, or window framing.
Outside Mount Installation-
1. Determine the bracket locations. Standard wall mount installation brackets are adjustable
and provide ½” to 1½” wall clearance. Determine how high to mount for the top of the bracket
(measured from the floor) by adding ½” to the blind height including the headrail. When
installed, louvers will clear the floor by ½”.
2. Attach the metal valance clips to the brackets. The track clip on the L-shaped mounting
bracket will need to be unscrewed so that the metal valance clip can be placed in between the
clip and the wall bracket. Sandwich the metal valance clip between the L-shaped mounting
bracket and the track clip. Then, turn the track clips to the side (horizontally).

3. Mount the brackets. Place the first bracket directly over the corner of the window/door. Make
sure there is at least 30” of space separating it from the other bracket. Adjust the brackets so
the louvers clear all obstructions. Drill in each of the brackets and make sure they are level
with one another.
If you do not have extension brackets you may move on to step #4. With the provided wing nut
and screw, connect the extension bracket to the L-shaped bracket so that the clip that
connects to the track projects out further from the wall.
4. Install the vertical track/headrail. Turn the track clip so that it runs vertically. Align the
vertical track/headrail under your brackets. Hook the front part of the track into the front part of
the clip. Once the lip of the front end of the clip is inserted into that groove press the back end
of the track slightly back and up until the back end of the bracket clips around the back of the
track. Once all brackets have been clipped around the track, gently tug to make sure that the
vertical track is securely installed in the mounting brackets.
Make sure your track is facing the right way according to your requested operation
specifications. If you chose a cordless wand, the wand needs to be positioned in front of the
vanes when the blinds are closed.
5. Insert each vane one at a time. Simply press the top of the vane with the hole up into each of
the carrier stem. Gently pull down on the vane so that it is seated in each of the bottom
grooves. Repeat this process for each vane.
6. Assemble the valance. If the valance returns are not preassembled, slide the clear plastic
corner clip onto the top edge of the valance. Then slide the valance return into the other side of
the clear corner valance clip. If necessary, use a pair of heavy-duty scissors to trim the ends of
the returns.
7. Snap the valance into the valance clips. There will be a slot on the back of the valance that
will need to align with the grooves on the front of the valance clips. Gently press the back of
the valance on to the front of the valance clip until you hear the valance snap into place.
8. Mount the chain & cord loop tension devices. If you chose a cordless wand you may move
on to step #9. Each tension device will need two screws drilled into the top and bottom. Mount
the tension devices on a flat, even surface and make sure that just a little bit of slack is left in
the loops.
9. Test the rotation of your vanes. The metal beaded chain will rotate the vanes in either
direction.

10.Test the traverse of your vanes. The nylon beaded chain will slide the vanes smoothly in
either direction.
Do not slide the vanes from left to right when the vanes are locked in the closed position. This
should only be done when the vanes are rotated to an open position.
11. Enjoy your new blinds. Sit back & relax because Blindster’s got you covered.
Tips for Operating Your New Vertical Blinds-
After purchasing your new vertical blinds from Blindster, you may have questions about how to
properly use them. Read these tips to better understand how to operate your blinds and keep them
working problem-free for years to come.
•CORD AND CHAIN CONTROL- To rotate the louvers, simply pull on the metal bead chain. To
traverse the louvers, pull on the nylon cord. If the louvers become tangled or become
misaligned over time, re-adjust them by manually moving the louvers with your hand until
they’re all facing the same direction. Once you’ve made sure the louvers are all aligned, pull
the metal bead chain until you hear a grinding sound; this grinding noise comes from the vane
carriers realigning themselves—then, give the chain another slight tug. This will re-align the
louver carriers. Once you pull the chain in the opposite direction, all the vanes will also be
aligned correctly.
•WAND CONTROL- The wand allows you to control many aspects of your vertical blinds. To
rotate the louvers, rotate the wand in the same direction that you want them to open. To
traverse the louvers across the window or door, rotate them into the open position and push or
pull on the wand in the desired direction.
•STATIC REMOVAL- Sometimes PVC vertical blinds can create static causing the individual
vanes not to hang straight and can even overlap and separate resulting in light gaps. The easy
home remedy for this would be to take a couple of dryer sheets and gently rub the front and
back of the affected vanes from top to bottom. You can also purchase a static guard spray
(often used for static on clothes) and lightly spray the vanes to reduce the buildup as well.
•HOW TO REMOVE VANES FOR CLEANING- The easiest way to remove the vanes is to take
a sturdy flat card (like a credit card) and insert it up into the stem against the vane. Slide the
vane up (so that it comes out of the groove that it is sitting in) and then pull both the vane and
card in a downward position to disconnect.
•HOW TO PREVENT VANE MISALIGNMENT- Avoid leaving the window open during
inclement, windy weather. Completely open (traverse) the blinds before opening the window.
Do not allow children or pets to pass through the closed blind.
