If your GPS serial converter is to be returned for repair, please contact the Safe Fleet technical support
team, provide the part and serial # of your unit, and ask for a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA)
number.
An RMA # allows the support team to better track your product when it comes in for service. Please
show the RMA # on the outside of the package.
ANY PRODUCT SENT WITHOUT AN RMA# MAY BE REFUSED!

Installation Environment
When installing the GPS serial converter, consider
the following:
Prerequisites
• RF GPS Antenna with SMA male connector:
the GPS serial converter has been tested
and validated to work with the Safe Fleet
GPS Active Antenna (part #ANT-G6-SM).
The product can also be used with a
compatible GPS antenna.
Overview
This product (part #GPS-RF-232) converts the
signal from an RF-type GPS antenna into an
RS-232 serial data interface, allowing Safe Fleet
recorders with a rear panel serial connection
socket to use compatible RF-type GPS antennas.

NOTE: GPS antenna location
For best results, the GPS antenna should
be mounted inside the front windshield -
close to the edge, with a view of the sky. It
should never block the driver’s vision.
 TIP: Cable lengths
Install the unit within reach of the cable
runs to connected components:
• Recorder - 20 ft./6.1m GPS extension
cable runs from the converter to the
recorder’s rear panel.
• RF antenna cable length
• Select a secure, dry location that is not
exposed to excessive moisture, heat, or
dust, with enough clearance for easy access
to cable connections.
• Route cables away from sharp edges that
might damage the insulation, Avoid sharp
bends in the cables.

Installation Procedure
1. Choose a mounting location (see Installation Environment on page 1).
2. Mount the converter module:
• Use the supplied #4 x 0.25” Phillips screws (part #600-0014) to secure the module to the
mounting surface.
• We recommend using the mounting ange holes at the corners (4 screws); alternatively, you
can use the slots on each side of the device (2 screws).
3. Connect the GPS antenna:
• Connect the RF antenna lead’s SMA connector to the converter’s ANTENNA connector.
4. Wire the converter to the recorder:
• Use the GPS extension cable (part #GPS4-CBL) to connect the converter’s DVR harness
(2x2 Microt) to the recorder’s GPS port.

Do not attempt to connect the converter’s DVR harness directly to the
recorder’s GPS port.
