Hardware Overview
Salient Systems CompleteView is a Hybrid capable Video Management Platform, allowing for direct
connection of Analog cameras to the Network Video Recorder. CompleteView is licensed by the number of
cameras recording to the CompleteView server. When purchasing analog camera licenses, the licenses include
the Gen I or Gen II analog capture card hardware saving the cost of an encoder.
In addition, analog licenses can be converted to IP camera licenses saving any future VMS licensing cost when
migrating analog cameras to IP.
Prior to CompleteView v4.1 Salient provided the Gen I
capture board, also known as the Fusion 4 capture board.
The Gen I board came included with the purchase of a 4
channel analog license, and was available as either PCI or
PCIe. The Gen I capture board delivered raw video to
CompleteView which was compressed using the computers
CPU. As such, any type of compression supported by
CompleteView could be used to compress the analog video
feed however processing resources were tied up in the
compression of analog video. Additionally the card came in
4 camera increments so a free PCI or PCI slot was required
on the target computer for each 4 camera card.
Beginning with CompleteView v4.1 Salient provides the
Gen II capture board. The Gen II board provides up to 32
channels of analog camera support with matching audio
channels included. The Gen II board is connected via PCIe
and requires a single 1x full height slot. Gen II board are
able to compress video at the board level, free CPU
resources for other tasks, making Gen II equipped
CompleteView server inherently higher performance.
Gen II boards are available with support for 8, 16 or 32
cameras. The specific model of Gen II board provided with
purchased CompleteView licenses will be determined by
Salient based on the number of analog channels orders.
Analog camera channels will continue to be available in 4
camera increments (in most cases, please refer to Pricing and Ordering for details).

Compatibility and Migration
CompleteView deployments using existing Gen I capture boards are compatible with CompleteView servers
using Gen II capture boards. Gen I boards do not need to be replaced, and new systems using Gen II boards can
be added to existing deployments. Gen II systems require CompleteView 4.1. CompleteView 4.1 is compatible
with both Gen I and Gen II boards, allowing existing systems to be upgraded without replacing hardware.
New system orders of analog cameras will include the Gen II boards by default. Gen I boards are available for
replacement, warranty repair and other purposes upon request until the Gen I boards are discontinued.
In some scenarios it may be desirable or necessary to replace existing Gen I boards with a Gen II board. These
scenarios include:
1. If replacing a single Gen I board, that board and others could be replaced with a Gen II board.
2. If upgrading the operating system on a CompleteView server to a 64 Bit OS (Gen I boards are not
compatible with 64 bit operating systems).
In order to upgrade to Gen I boards to a Gen II board follow these steps
1. CompleteView on the target computer needs to be updated to version 4.1.
2. Order the appropriate replacement Gen II board. Order either Gen II 8 BRD RPL for the 8 channel Gen
II board if replacing one or two Gen I cards, or Gen II 16 BRD RPL for the 16 channel Gen II board if
replacing 3 or 4 Gen I cards.
3. Once the new board is received, install it in the target CompleteView server. Contact Salient Support to
have the Gen II board licensed for the appropriate number of channels. In order to trade the licenses
from the Gen I boards to the new Gen II board, the old Gen I boards will need to be sent back to Salient.
Salient Support will issue an RMA to track the return of the Gen I boards. There is no cost for this
license trade, however a purchase order will be generated for the number of licenses traded, and will be
billed 30 days after the license are issued to activate the Gen II board. If the Gen I boards are received
back under the RMA issued the PO will be canceled.

Gen II Pricing and Ordering
Gen II boards are included with the purchase of CompleteView analog camera licenses. Gen II boards come in
8, 16 and 32 camera versions. CompleteView analog licensing is available in (most cases) 4 camera
increments.
If the number of CompleteView analog licenses ordered does not match 8, 16 or 32 cameras the board with the
next higher number of channels will be provided with the licenses. The extra analog connectors on the board
will be inactive unless they are later licensed.
CompleteView Pro and Enterprise analog licensing allows for a minimum of 4 analog cameras. CompleteView
ONE requires the minimum number of analog channels purchased to be 8. Following the first 8 analog
channels, additional analog channels can be ordered in groups of 4. The following charts summarize the
available license packages and the capture board hardware included.

Transitioning to IP with Gen II
Using both Gen I and Gen II capture boards, CompleteView users can move their CompleteView licenses form
analog cameras to IP cameras without purchasing additional licenses.
The process of receiving new IP camera licenses using a Gen I capture board requires the board be sent to
Salient in exchange for the equivalent number of IP camera licenses.
Using Gen II boards, a software setting allows the CompleteView administrator to toggle the gen II analog
camera license to an IP camera license without sending the card back to Salient. Analog licenses can be
transitioned to IP one-at-a-time using the Gen II boards allowing for a smoother transition.
To transition from Analog to IP using a Gen
II board, open CompleteView Server
Configuration.
1. Select the camera to be converted.
2. On the General Tab of the camera’s
configuration, check the box labeled
Convert Analog License to IP.
The corresponding analog camera port on the
Gen II board will be deactivated. The IP
configuration tab for the camera will be
enabled allow the camera license to be
configured as an IP camera immediately.

GenI&GenIIAnalogCaptureHardwareGuide(rev2)Page8
Adding Cameras and Replacing Boards
It is possible to add additional analog cameras to a Gen II based CompleteView deployment. The process
required depends on whether there are inactive ports on an already deployed Gen II card.
No board swap out is required
If the existing Gen II board has enough unlicensed channels available, simply order the correct number of
analog licenses and note on the purchase order that the licenses are for an existing deployment and do not
require a capture board.
The Gen II board needs to be traded
Salient Systems will advance replace the existing board with a new board that contains the correct number of
inputs.
Order the analog channels along with the correct board exchange part number. Board exchanges are available
for exchanging the 8 channel card to the 16 or 32 channel card as well as from the 16 to the 32 channel card.
The follow chart summarizes the exchange scenarios and the correct exchange part number.
