The Dual Frequency Ultrasonic Toothbrush features advanced ultrason-
ic technology coupled with gentle sonic wave vibrations to help you remove
bacterial plaque every time you brush.

provide a complete brushing result.
The Personal Touch System lets you choose the ultrasound benefit that’s
right for you from the following options:
1. Ultrasound Plus 18,000 strokes per minute sonic action for optimum
plaque removal.
2. Ultrasound Plus a gentler 14,000 strokes per minute sonic action for
those with sensitive teeth and gums.

sensitivity and require no sonic action but want the benefit of ultrasound
to help break up plaque bacterial chains.

ing and flossing instructions while using the brush or flosser. You may
use any toothpaste you like.
See your dentist regularly.

changing any medication or treatments. Discontinue use of the prod-
uct and consult your doctor if any problems arise with use of the
product.
WARNING
DO NOT USE IF YOU ARE FITTED WITH A
CARDIAC PACEMAKER OR DEFIBRILLATOR.
IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS
• Do NOT operate your Dual Frequency Ultrasonic Toothbrush
if the power cord, plug, or any other component is damaged in
any way.
• Keep the power cord away from heaters or other heated
surfaces.
• Do NOT touch the charger base with wet hands or while show-
ering or bathing.
• Do NOT store the charger base where it can fall into water or
get wet from the shower or bath.
• Do NOT touch the charger base if it has fallen into water while
still plugged into a wall outlet. Do not reach into the water.
Unplug the cord from the wall outlet -- immediately -- then drain
water prior to picking up charger to dry it. Return the charger
base to Sonex for examination and repair before using.
• The Ultrasonex Oral Care System should NOT be used by young
children. The removable brush head could be swallowed by a
small child. Keep the entire unit out of reach of children under
10 years of age.
Important! How to use your Dual Frequency
Ultrasonic Toothbrush
Initial Charging
To charge the Dual Frequency Ultrasonic Toothbrush, place the charg-
er base on a stable, nonskid surface and plug the power cord into a
standard AC wall outlet.
Insert the rounded end of the brush handle into the charger base. While
charging, a red light will be visible. Allow brush to charge for 24 hours
prior to first-time use to assure that the battery is fully charged. The
charger base should always be plugged in so that the brush is being
fully charged between brushings.
(You may notice a faint vibration and hum while the Dual Frequency
Ultrasonic Toothbrush is charging. The brush handle may also be
slightly warm. This is normal. The brush is self-protecting and will not
overcharge.)
You will experience many years of useful life with your Ultrasonex oral
hygiene products. However, once your toothbrush no longer functions,
the battery used to power your toothbrush should be recycled. CAU-
TION: Batteries cannot be replaced and opening the handle will destroy
the product and invalidate the warranty.
This product’s handle contains a nickel metal hydride (NiMH)
rechargeable battery. The nickel metal hydride battery in your
Ultrasonex Toothbrush is recyclable. Please recycle these bat-
teries at an appropriate battery collection site.
Personal Touch System Operation
The Personal Touch System lets you choose the ultrasound benefit
that’s right for you from the following options:
1. Press the control button once for Ultrasound Plus 18,000 strokes
per minute sonic action for optimum plaque removal.
2. Press the control button twice slowly for Ultrasound Plus a gentler
14,000 strokes per minute sonic action for those with sensitive teeth
and gums. You will notice a change in the sound the toothbrush makes
when operating at the gentler speed.
3. Press the control button three times slowly for Ultrasound Only for
those who prefer no sonic action or have extreme sensitivity and/or
require no sonic action but want the benefit of ultrasound to help break
up plaque bacterial chains. The indicator light on the handle will be green
but there will be no sound or motion apparent.
To turn the brush off, press the control button once (the brush must
have been running for at least 2 seconds). The indicator light on the han-
dle will not be lit. Sonic and Ultrasound output is inactive when the green
light is not on.

Phaser Timer System Operation
Dental professionals recommend that you brush for 3 minutes. Your Dual
Frequency Ultrasonic Toothbrush features the Phaser Timer System to
help you evenly distribute its Ultrasound benefit to the 6 brushing areas
of your mouth. The Phaser Timer System operates in all Personal Touch
System modes.
The Phaser Timer system is a built-in timer that pauses sonic action 5
times for 0.5 seconds at 30 second intervals. If you are using your Dual
Frequency Ultrasonic Toothbrush in Ultrasound Only mode, the Phaser
Timer System will turn sonic action on for a brief 0.5 seconds at each 30
second interval guiding you to begin brushing another area of your mouth.
At the end of three minutes, the toothbrush will automatically turn itself
off. If you are using your Dual Frequency Ultrasonic Toothbrush in
Ultrasound Only mode, the green light will go out indicating that the
brush is off. If you prefer to turn off the brush before the three minutes
are over, you can do so by depressing the control button. Note: Any
time the control button is pressed, the Phaser timer is restarted and
brushing cycle reset to one.
Note: Placing the brush into the charger base will automatically turn
off the brush.
To Brush Your Teeth
Use the Dual Frequency Ultrasonic
Toothbrush as you would a regular manual
toothbrush. Its dual technology produces gen-
tle sonic and ultrasonic waves that enhance
your regular manual brushing technique. The
soft-touch handle and grip control provide a
comfortable hold that prevents slipping.
To use, remove the brush from the charger
base. Wet the bristles of the brush and apply
toothpaste. To avoid splattering toothpaste,
place the brush in your mouth before press-
ing the control button.
Unless your dentist has recommended other-
wise, we suggest you follow this brushing
technique (known as the Bass technique)
which is often recommended by dental
professionals:
Hold the toothbrush handle horizontally. Place the bristles on the teeth
gum margin at an angle (app. 45°) so the bristles are directed toward
the margin between your teeth and gums.
How to use your Dual Frequency
Ultrasonic Toothbrush
Call the Sonex Consumer Service Department to order
replacement Dual Frequency Ultrasonic brush heads.
Move the brush horizontally in a back-and-forth motion, using short
strokes — less than 1/4”. Be sure to keep the bristle points in contact
against the gum margin.
Brush each area with at least 10 (count them!) back and forth cycles
until the 0.5 second pause then move brushing action to ensure that
you spend the recommended amount of time on each area. The tooth-
brush will pause five times for one-second intervals, advising you to
brush in another area.
Brush the inner and outer surfaces of your teeth and gums following
this technique.
Brush the inside surfaces of the upper and lower front teeth by holding
the brush handle vertically and placing the bristle tips directly on the
gum margin.
Brush the biting surfaces of your back teeth...and then repeat the entire
process from the beginning. Brush until the brush stops completely (3
minutes) to receive the complete amount of ultrasound.
Cleaning Instructions
The Ultrasonic Toothbrush is waterproof. Rinse the Toothbrush head under
running water. Dry the Toothbrush head and handle with a towel.
To clean the rechargeable base, unplug and use a soft, slightly damp
cloth or sponge to wipe the surface. Never use abrasive cleaners or sol-
vents, as they may scratch the surface.
Replace the Toothbrush handle into the rechargeable base.
Important: Do NOT remove the brush head from the handle every day.
Frequent removal causes excessive wear of the brush-holder clip and
the brush head will not fit tightly. A tight fit is essential for the efficient
transfer of ultrasonic power from
the handle to the tips of the
brush head.
After continued use, the bristles
will wear and may bend. Replace
the brush head when the bristles
begin showing signs of wear,
usually once every 3 months.

1. Place a coin (a quarter works best) in the slot
between the brush head and the handle, as
shown here. Press the coin into the slot and,
with a gentle twisting motion, snap the brush
head off the handle. See Fig. A.
2. Wash off any toothpaste that has accumu-
lated under the brush head before replacing the
brush head.
3. Coat the brush head clip with a generous
amount of petroleum jelly. This makes installa-
tion easier and helps transmission of the ultra-
sonic waves. See Fig. B.
4. Place a new brush head onto the tip of the
handle. Orient the bristles as shown here. See
Fig. C.
5. Push the new brush head on the handle by
pressing it firmly against the palm of your hand
until the top surface of the handle and the brush
head are touching. You will see a gap, barely
wide enough for a coin, between the bottom
curved surface of the handle and the brush
head, next to the bristles. Tug on the brush
head to be sure it is firmly secured.
CAUTION:
DO NOT POINT THE BRUSH TOWARD YOUR FACE
NOR AT ANYONE ELSE WHEN REMOVING THE BRUSH
HEAD. IT CAN FLY OFF WITH FORCE DURING REMOVAL
AND MAY CAUSE POSSIBLE INJURY.

Q: How does the Dual Frequency Ultrasonic Toothbrush
work?
A: The Dual Frequency Ultrasonic Toothbrush uses advanced dual
frequency technology to provide its dynamic cleaning power. It is
the world’s first to feature penetrating 1.6 MHz ultrasonic waves
coupled with 18,000 strokes per minute sonic carrier waves.
With just regular brushing, its unique foaming and scrubbing action
effectively removes plaque to help you maintain a professional
clean feeling everyday. The brush reaches below the gumline to
disrupt the bacterial process. This results in a significant reduc-
tion of gingivitis and bleeding while promoting healthier gums.
Q: How do I use the Dual Frequency Ultrasonic Toothbrush?
A: Brush as you would brush with your manual toothbrush using
any toothpaste you like. Please see the “How To Use” section of
this manual for instruction on the most commonly recommend-
ed brushing technique. We recommend that you brush twice a
day for three minutes.
Q: How do I know when the Dual Frequency Ultrasonic
Toothbrush is working?
A: When the brush is in the charger base the red light is visible,
letting you know that your brush is charging. Pressing the control
button on the handle turns the brush on. A green light will be vis-
ible indicating that the brush is working properly and emitting ultra-
sonic waves.
Should the green light fail to come on or if the green light contin-
ually blinks, these are indications that the Dual Frequency
Ultrasonic Toothbrush is not working properly. If the green light
is on but there is an absence of sonic activity please check the
Personal Touch System section on page 5 to be sure the tooth-
brush is not in ultrasound only mode. Please contact the Sonex
Consumer Service Department for further instructions.
Q: How often do I change the brush head?
A: We recommend that you change the brush head every 3
months or when the bristles begin showing significant signs of
wear. In any case, the brush head should be changed a minimum
of once every three months.
Q: How do I know if the brush head needs replacing?
A: After continued use, you’ll notice that the bristles will begin to
bend — just like with any regular brush. When this happens, it’s
time to replace the brush head. We recommend that you change
the brush head at least once every 3 months, depending on wear.
Q: Can I travel with the Dual Frequency Ultrasonic
Toothbrush?
A: Yes. You can brush twice a day for 7 days without recharging.
Q: Do I still need to floss?
A: Yes. You should floss daily and see your dentist regularly. For
daily flossing we recommend using the Ultrasonex Advanced
Patented Sonic Technology Flosser from Sonex.
Q: Can the Dual Frequency Ultrasonic Toothbrush be used
by patients with dental work and orthodontia patients (people
with braces)?
A: Yes. It is extremely gentle and safe for all dental work and ortho-
dontia patients. However, it is not recommended for people fit-
ted with a cardiac pacemaker or defibrillator.
Q: Can I repair the Dual Frequency Ultrasonic Toothbrush?
A: No. This is a permanently sealed product that does not con-
tain any user serviceable parts. In case of damage or malfunc-
tion, do not attempt to repair this product. Please call the Sonex
Consumer Service Department for instructions for returning the
product to Sonex.
