Congratulations on your new SCAN DSA fireplace (cheminée). We are confident that you will enjoy your new
fireplace, especially if you follow the instructions and advice given below.
An original SCAN DSA fireplace is delivered with a sign with the following information: Type, output,
approvals, and registration number. .
It is very important that you read the instructions for installation and use, before you take your SCAN DSA
fireplace into use.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLATION
In the SCAN DSA fireplace you will find the following:
1 oven mitten
1 wedge (to be used when cleaning the door)
4 bolts 10 x 50 mm and 4 10 mm nuts (for adjustment of the height)
1 x 6 mm hexagon spanner
Firelighters for the first lighting
Before the fireplace is connected to the chimney:
Contact your local authorities to obtain the existing fire- and building regulations regarding the installation, or
ask your local experts in that field, e.g., the chimney sweep, to install your fireplace.
Security distances:
Within the radiation area: Observe a distance of 80 cm from the front edge of the firebox opening against
inflammable objects.
Outside the radiation area: Do not mount inflammable objects closer than 5 cm from the outer limit of the
radiation area.
Accessories:
The SCAN DSA fireplaces can be delivered with our without ventilator (accessory). The ventilator is only
needed, if you want to heat side rooms. Further accessories: Support frame with steel wire for supporting
building materials, grill.
CONNECTION TO THE CHIMNEY
We recommend that the fireplace be installed by a professional stove/fireplace dealer.
NB: The fireplace, the chimney and the connection pipes must be installed so that the fireplace can be cleaned
without problems. Connecting pieces for warm air outlet that are not used, can be covered by a lid.

LIGHTING AND STOKING
First Time of Use:
Do not take the fireplace into use without consulting your authorized dealer, or even better in his presence, and at
the earliest four weeks after the installation. It is important that the covering of the fireplace is completely dry,
i.e. you should only make a small fire at the start.
The grates for hot air must be open during the use, in order to ensure that the heat can escape. You should only
touch the fireplace with a glove, as the glass and the handle can become very hot.
LIGHTING
For lighting, do never use oil, gas or other flammable liquids. You should only put small amounts of wood in the
fireplace at the time, i.e. approx. 3 logs, max. 3-4 kg/h.
When using larger amounts of fuel, the fireplace will give off a larger amount of heat, which results in a higher
chimney temperature and a lower efficiency, which again may damage the fireplace and the chimney.
In the heating phase (first 3-5 minutes), the door should remain 1-2 cm open (to the point where the door locks).
The heat regulation is done by means of the fired quantity of wood. Small pieces of wood give a faster
combustion than large pieces of wood. The combustion air is automatically controlled.
For fireplaces with fan, turn the switch to level 1-5 as required.

Storage of the Wood:
The correct storage of the wood is one of the main conditions of an environment-conscious combustion. Only
hereby are you guaranteed optimal combustion values, and that the nature is not unnecessarily polluted.
* The wood should be stored in an airy, sunny, and dry place (ideal: South side)
* There should be about a hand's breadth distance between each layer
* Poplar and spruce should be stored at least one year before being used as fuel
* Lime, alder, and birch should be stored at least one and a half year before being used as fuel
* Beech, ash, and fruit tree should be stored at least two years before being used as fuel
Soot Free Glasses:
The construction of the fireplaces ensures that the glasses stay optimally clean. However, if you use moist wood,
you risk that the glasses get sooty. In this case, the glass should be cleaned from time to time.
Cleaning:
Be careful when you remove ash from the fireplace. There may be embers left as long as 24 hours after the stove
was last used. Never put out the fire with water and never put the ash in inflammable/temperature sensitive
materials and always use rubber gloves when cleaning the fireplace. The SCAN DSA fireplace is equipped with
an ash groove, and it is recommended to leave a small layer of ash in order to facilitate the lighting of the
fireplace. The ash may, when it is cold, be placed in a garbage bag.
Fire Bricks:
Little cracks may arise in the fire bricks because of a minor content of water, especially if the fireplace is
overheated during the first firing. These cracks do not influence the efficiency of the fireplace and are not
covered by the limited warranty.

MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS
The fireplace is cleaned with a moist cloth (when it has cooled off). Spray lacquer is available for repair of
possible damages/scratches. Your dealer has the right spray in the right colour.
Cleaning of the glass:
If the fireplace is not optimally used, for instance when using moist wood or during spring time and autumn,
where the heat requirements are lower, the glass may get sooty. The glass is easily cleaned by use of a special
cleaning fluid, which is available at your dealer. The ceramic door joint must not get wet. Afterwards, wipe with
a dry cloth.
1) In order to protect the ceramic gasket, you should place the delivered wedge next to the left pillar.
2) Important! Close the door and lock it, by turning the locking button.
3) Put a 6 mm hexagon spanner in the middle of the right side of the door and turn clockwise.
4) Swing out the door.
Clean the glass, close the door and turn the screw counter-clockwise.
Ceramic gaskets:
All SCAN DSA-fireplaces (chemineés) are equipped with ceramic gaskets. The gaskets are wearing parts, and
should be changed from time to time (please contact your authorized dealer).
MOUNTING/DISMOUNTING OF THE DOOR
Generally we recommend that the door is always dismounted by an authorized dealer.
1) Swing out the door (see section concerning "Cleaning of the glass, point 1-4)
2) Lift up the door so that the 6.5 mm hole of the pillar is placed opposite the hole in the inner tube.
3) Put a screwdriver in the appropiate size into the hole and leave it there.
4) Unscrew the four screws in the door.
Mounting is done in reverse order.

REPLACEMENT OF GLASS
1) Swing out the door (see section "Cleaning of the glass, point 1-4)
2) Unscrew all visible screws and remove the inner frame.
3) Mount the new glass.
4) Equip the inner door frame with self-adhesive gasket and mount the frame.
5) Tighten all screws and turn them 2-3 rounds back again.
6) Push the steel-gasket in between the glass and the frame with your fingers.
7) Tighten the screws again.
8) Swing back the door and tighten all screws (see section "Cleaning of the glass)
REPLACEMENT OF THE GUIDING AXES/COUNTERWEIGHTS
In general, we recommend that the guiding axes/counterweights (left and right) are replaced by an authorized
dealer.
1) Swing out or dismount the door (only necessary by the left counterweight – see section "Mounting
/Dismounting of the door, point 1-4).
2) Turn the lower screw of the guiding axis clockwise with a 2 mm spanner.
3) Lift the axis, take out the counterweight (unhook it and take it out slantingly).
4) Mounting is done in reverse order. Tighten the lower screw again.
PLACING OF THE CERAMIC SMOKE DEFLECTOR
A ceramic smoke deflector is delivered with all SCAN DSA-fireplaces (cheminées). The plate should be
mounted according to the below sketch, so that there is an equal amount of air on both sides.
Attention! Skamol is a delicate material that easily breaks. The ceramic smoke deflector is a wearing part that
must be replaced from time to time (excluded from the limited warranty).

TROUBLE SHOOTING
Smoke: - Insufficient chimney draught!
- Check if the chimney has the right dimension.
- Check if the smoke pipe or chimney is blocked.
- Check if the chimney has the right height compared to the surroundings.
- Is the combustion air and ash grate at the right position?
- Is there low pressure in the house (basement, ventilation, cooker hood)?
- Is the wood dry?
Sootend glass: - Is the combustion air valve adjusted according to the instructions?
- Is the wood dry?
- Is the chimney draught sufficient?
Sootend chimney: - Incorrect combustion!
- Is the wood dry?
- Are the air valves adjusted correctly according to the instructions?

Warranty conditions for SCAN wood-burning products
All SCAN wood-burning stoves and inserts are made of first-class material and are subject to a strict
quality control, before they leave the factory. However, an error may occur, wherefore we back all
SCAN wood-burning stoves and inserts with an extensive five years limited warranty.
The warranty covers all parts that may require replacement, from a failure that was caused in the
judgement of Krog Iversen & Co. A/S, to be a defect in material or workmanship.
This warranty is given to the first retail purchaser (other than for the purposes of resale) only and is
not transferable. This warranty does not cover damage resulting from other than defects in material or
workmanship.
Specifically this warranty does not cover:
Wearing parts such as fire bricks, ceramic smoke deflector, shaking grate, glass panes, tiles, and
gaskets (other than damages that are visible at the time of delivery)
Defects caused by outher chemical and physical actions during transport, in stock, during the
installation, or later.
Sooting caused by a bad chimney draught, humid wood, or wrong service.
Costs caused by extra heating costs in connection with repair.
Transport costs
Costs in connection with dismounting and mounting of the unit.
The warranty is invalid:
If the installation or service is performed by someone other than an authorized installer, or if the
installation is not in confirmity with installation instructions and/or local fire and building regulations.
At wrong use of the stove and use of non-allowed fuel (see Instructions for Installation).
Settlement of the complaint
The settlement of the complaint is done by the responsible dealer.
