2.1 Material information
All wooden parts of the smilla. therapy chair are made of beechwood and
varnished. The release of formaldehyde from the varnish is covered by the
requirements according to E1. The covers are made of 100% polyester and
are flame resistant (according to DIN EN 1021-1+2).
2.2 Handling / transport
The therapy chair is not intended for carrying people. If carrying cannot be
avoided due to obstacles being in the way, please note the advice below
on „lifting the therapy chair“. Please make all adjustments to create the most
compact size in order to transport the therapy chair..
Lifting the therapy chair
Make sure that the therapy chair is never lifted with anyone sitting on it.
Make sure that all screw connections and buttons are tightened before lif-
ting the therapy chair. The chair can only be lifted using the foot or seat
plate holders or the main frame.
2.3 Application areas, use according to the intended purpose
Indications
The smilla. therapy chair has been designed for children and teenagers
who are unable to sit or stand independently. Therapy chairs only make sen-
se if longer periods spent seated in the chair is possible and therefore a seat
pan is not required. Correction of incorrect postures or growth control is not
possible with a therapy chair.
Contraindications
In general, the indications for provision of a therapy chair should be appro-
ved by a doctor or orthopaedist. It should therefore be clarified prior to pro-
curement whether contraindications exist for the patient. In general, any
type of pain represents a contraindication.

Plastic gliders
Plastic gliders are attached at the back under the base feet to prevent
smilla. from tipping over when pushed back. These help smilla. to slide
gently and remain in an upright position when being pushed back. The the-
rapy chair should be placed on a surface it can slide on to ensure that the
gliders can work as intended. The gliders and surface must be kept clean.
Covers
The seat and back pads of the smilla. therapy chair are covered with a
wearresistant and breathable fabric in the basic version. This can be remo-
ved from the pad using the zip to clean or wash it in the washing machine
(max. 30 °). Please do not dry the cover in a dryer and do not use aggressive
cleaning agents or similar products.
Push rollers
The therapy chair is provided with push rollers that make it easier to position
the seating aid. The push rollers should not be mistaken for castors (see point

child to/under a table). The push rollers can be found in the front area under
the base feet. Now you can move the seating aid in the required direction.

Settings and adjustments to the product or accessories may only be made
by people who have been given the necessary instructions by a medical
product advisor. Please ensure that none of the user‘s extremities are in the
respective area when making adjustments of any kind to minimise the risk of
injury. The smilla. therapy chair can be adjusted to the size of the child. The
upper and lower arms as well as the thighs and calves should be at least
able to form a right angle if possible. The feet should be placed fully on the
foot plate and the arms should be able to rest loosely on the armrests.
3.1 Seat plate, foot plate and armrest height
The right height of the seat plate should
be adjusted to the size of the child and
the respective table height/situation.
Once you have adjusted the seat pla-
te, position the armrests so that the
child‘s lower arms can rest comfortably
on them. The foot plate is at the right
height when the soles of the feet can
rest on it and the thighs rest on the
seatplate.Loosenthehexagonsocket
screws (A) to adjust the armrest height
and bring the armrests into the requi-
red position. Then retighten the hexa-
gon socket screws. Loosen the hexa-
gon socket screws (B+C) on both sides
to adjust the seat and foot plate. Bring
the seat and foot plate to the required
height and retighten the socket screws.
Adjustments may only be undertaken
if the user is not in the therapy chair.
When adjusting the therapy chair
there is a risk of trapping or crushing
limbs. After each adjustment, please
retighten all screw connections!

The seat plate is at the right depth when there
a space of approx. 5 cm between the backs
of the knees and the front seat edge. In order
to adjust the seat depth, loosen the turning
handles (A) beneath the seat plate, slide it
into the correct position and retighten the tur-
ning handles (A). On Sizes 0 + and 0 KITA, the
maximum seat depth can be adjusted via a
second hole (B). To do this, loosen the turning
handle, insert it into the second hole and re-
tighten it.

foot plate angle, the hexagon socket screws
(F+H) on both sides of the frame must be loo-
sened and removed. Insert the hexagon so-
cket screws into a dierent hole for another
angle. Put the foot or seat plate at the requi-
red angle and retighten the hexagon socket

via fast adjustment using the pull strap
(A). To do this, simply pull the pull strap
from the front or back (A), and bring the
seat plate (B) or foot plate (C) into the
required position. With the rapid ang-
le adjustment, you can adjust the res-
pective angle to (-)5°, 0°, 7,5° or 15°. The
fast angle adjustment can be opera-
ted using only one hand.
Adjustments may only be undertaken
if the user is not in the therapy chair.
3.5 Back angle
The backrest should rest fully against
the back and should be adjusted to
the respective required position of the
spine. The back angle can be adjusted
from - 3° to 17.5°. In order to adjust the
angle of the backrest, loosen the tur-
ning handles (D) on both sides of the
frame and bring the backrest into the
