SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS – Charge the Instant Power™ internal battery
immediately after purchase, after every use and every 30 days. This manual
will show you how to use your Instant Power™ safely and effectively. Please
read, understand and follow these instructions and precautions carefully, as
this manual contains important safety and operating instructions. The safety
messages used throughout this manual contain a signal word, a message and
an icon.
The signal word indicates the level of the hazard in a situation.
Indicates an imminently hazardous situation which, if not avoided,
will result in death or serious injury to the operator or bystanders.
Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided,

OPERATION. FOR THIS REASON, IT IS OF UTMOST IMPORTANCE THAT
YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS EACH TIME YOU USE THE INSTANT
POWER™.
To reduce the risk of a battery explosion, follow these instructions and those1.11 published by the battery manufacturer and the manufacturer of any equipment
you intend to use in the vicinity of the battery. Review the cautionary markings
on these products and on the engine.

PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS2.
RISK OF EXPLOSIVE GASES. A
SPARK NEAR THE BATTERY MAY
CAUSE A BATTERY EXPLOSION.
TO REDUCE THE RISK OF A
SPARK NEAR THE BATTERY:
Working in the vicinity of a lead-acid battery is dangerous. Batteries generate2.1 explosive gases during normal battery operation. For this reason, it is of
utmost importance that you follow the instructions each time you use the
Instant Power™.
NEVERsmokeorallowasparkorameinthevicinityofabatteryorengine.2.2
Do not permit the internal battery of the Instant Power™ to freeze. Never2.3 charge a frozen battery.
To prevent sparking, NEVER allow clips to touch together or contact the same2.4
piece of metal.
When charging the internal battery of the Instant Power™, work in a well2.5 ventilated area and do not restrict the ventilation in any way.
Be extra cautious to reduce the risk of dropping a metal tool onto a battery. It2.6 might spark or short-circuit the battery or other electrical part that may cause
an explosion.
Remove personal metal items such as rings, bracelets, necklaces and watches2.7 when working with a lead-acid battery. A lead-acid battery can produce a short-
circuit current high enough to weld a ring or the like to metal, causing a severe
burn.
Be sure the area around the battery is well ventilated while the jump starter is2.8 being used.
RISK OF CONTACT WITH BATTERY ACID.
BATTERY ACID IS A HIGHLY CORROSIVE
SULFURIC ACID.
Consider having someone close enough by to come to your aid when you work2.9 near a lead-acid battery.
Have plenty of fresh water and soap nearby in case battery acid contacts your2.10 skin, clothing or eyes.
Wear complete eye and body protection, including safety goggles and2.11 protective clothing. Avoid touching your eyes while working near the battery.
If battery acid contacts your skin or clothing, immediately wash the area with2.12
soapandwater.Ifacidentersyoureye,immediatelyoodtheeyewithcold
running water for at least 10 minutes and get medical attention right away.
If battery acid is accidentally swallowed, drink milk, the whites of eggs or water.2.13 DO NOT induce vomiting. Seek medical attention immediately.
Stay clear of fan blades, belts, pulleys and other parts that may cause injury.2.14
Clean the battery terminals before using the jump starter. During cleaning,2.15 keep airborne corrosion from coming into contact with your eyes, nose and
mouth. Use baking soda and water to neutralize the battery acid and help
eliminate airborne corrosion. Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth.
Determine the voltage of the battery by referring to the vehicle owner’s manual2.16 and make sure that the output voltage of the jump starter is correct.
Make sure that the Instant Power™ cable clips make tight connections.2.17

Attach the output cables to the battery and chassis as indicated below. Never3.1 allow the output clips to touch each other.
Position the DC cables to reduce the risk of damage by the hood, door and3.2 moving or hot engine parts. NOTE: If it is necessary to close the hood during
the jumping process, ensure that the hood does not touch the metal part of the
battery clips or cut the insulation of the cables.
Stay clear of fan blades, belts, pulleys and other parts that can cause injury.3.3
Check the polarity of the battery posts. The POSITIVE (POS, P, +) battery post3.4 usually has a larger diameter then the NEGATIVE (NEG, N, -) post.
Determine which post of the battery is grounded (connected) to the chassis.3.5 If the negative post is grounded to the chassis (as in most vehicles), see step
3.6. If the positive post is grounded to the chassis, see step 3.7.
For a negative-grounded vehicle, connect the POSITIVE (RED) clip from the3.6 Instant Power™ to the POSITIVE (POS, P, +) ungrounded post of the battery.
Connect the NEGATIVE (BLACK) clip to the vehicle chassis or engine block
away from the battery. Do not connect the clip to the carburetor, fuel lines or
sheet-metal body parts. Connect to a heavy gauge metal part of the frame or
engine block.
For a positive-grounded vehicle, connect the NEGATIVE (BLACK) clip from the3.7 Instant Power™ to the NEGATIVE (NEG, N, -) ungrounded post of the battery.
Connect the POSITIVE (RED) clip to the vehicle chassis or engine block away
from the battery. Do not connect the clip to the carburetor, fuel lines or sheet-
metal body parts. Connect to a heavy gauge metal part of the frame or engine
block.
When disconnecting the Instant Power™, turn all switches to off (if applicable),3.8 remove the clip from the vehicle chassis and then remove the clip from the
battery terminal.
GROUNDING AND AC POWER CORD CONNECTIONS4.
RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK OR FIRE.
The Instant Power™ internal charger plug is for use on a nominal 120-volt4.1 circuit. The extension cord utilized with the internal charger plug must be
plugged into an outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance
withalllocalcodesandordinances.Theplugpinsmusttthereceptacle
(outlet). Do not use with an ungrounded system.

Remove all cord wraps and uncoil the cables prior to using the Instant
Power™.

BATTERY FULLY CHARGED.
LED Indicators:7.1
TO CHECK THE INTERNAL BATTERY’S CHARGE STATUS, PRESS THE
BATTERY STATUS BUTTON ON THE FRONT OF THE INSTANT POWER™.
The LED lights will indicate the charge level as follows:
A red LED• indicates a 50% or less charge and you should immediately
recharge the Instant Power™.
A yellow LED• indicates a 50 to 75% charge. The Instant Power™ may
be used but should be recharged as soon as possible.
A green LED• indicates the internal battery is fully charged.
The CHARGING• (red) LED indicates the Instant Power™ is charging
(connected to an AC power source.) At full charge, the CHARGED
(green) LED will light.
Charging the Internal Battery using the Built-In Charger:7.2
To charge, plug an 18 gauge (AWG) or larger extension cord into the1. charger plug on the right side of the Instant Power™. (Extension cord not
included; must be purchased separately.)
Plug the extension cord into a 120V AC electrical wall outlet.2.
The CHARGING3. (red) LED will glow indicating charging.
The CHARGED4. (green) LED will light when the battery has reached
full charge. This could take up to 72 hours due to the age and condition
of the battery. The charger will automatically go into maintain mode and
maintain the battery at full charge without damaging it.

Charge the Instant Power™ as soon as possible after use.5.
You may also charge the internal battery while driving, using the male-to-male
charger cable (p/n 94500109 – not included). Insert one end of the accessory
cable into the 12V DC power outlet and the other end into the vehicle’s
accessory outlet (lighter socket). Completely disconnect the charger cable
when the engine is not running.
The CHARGING (red) LED and the CHARGED (green) LED
do not operate during this method of charging. Using this method to charge the
battery overrides the maintain mode and the battery can be overcharged.
Monitor the progress of the battery and when it reaches a full (100%) charge,
disconnect the charger. Do not leave the battery unattended or it could explode
causing property damage or personal injury.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS8.
Jump Starting a Vehicle Engine8.1
Do not use the Instant Power™ while charging the internal
battery.
Turn the vehicle’s ignition OFF before making cable connections.1.
Connect the Instant Power™ to the battery following the precautions listed2. in section 3.
Crank the engine. If the engine does not start within 5-8 seconds, stop3. cranking and wait at least 1 minute before attempting to start the vehicle
again. (This permits the battery to cool down.)
After the engine starts, disconnect the black clip (-) and then the red clip (+)4. in that order.
Recharge the Instant Power™ as soon as possible after use.5.
Risk of Explosion.
To prevent sparking, NEVER allow the clips to touch together or to
contact the same piece of metal. Never attempt to jump start a frozen
battery.
Powering a 12V DC Device:8.2
The Instant Power™ is a power source for all 12V DC accessories that are
equippedwitha12Vaccessoryplug.Useitforpoweroutagesandshingor
camping trips. Estimated usage time is listed in the chart below.
Make sure the device to be powered is OFF before inserting the 12V DC
accessory plug into the 12V DC accessory outlet.
Ensure the battery clips are securely on the storage holders.1.
NOTE: The clips on the Instant Power™ are live and will produce arcing or
sparking if they come in contact with each other. To prevent accidental arcing,
always keep the clips on the storage holders when not using it to jump start a
vehicle.
Open the protective cover of the DC power outlet on the side of the Instant2. Power™.
Plug the 12V DC device into the DC power outlet, and turn the 12V DC3. device on (if required).

If the 12V DC device draws more than 15A or has a short circuit, the4. internal circuit breaker of the Instant Power™ will trip and disconnect the
power to the device. Disconnect the 12V DC device. The breaker will
automatically reset after an overload occurs.
The DC power outlet is wired directly to the internal battery. Extended
operation of a 12V DC device may result in excessive battery drain. Recharge
immediately after unplugging the 12V DC device.

MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS9.
After use and before performing maintenance, unplug and disconnect the9.1 Instant Power™ (see sections 3 and 4).
Use a dry cloth to wipe all battery corrosion and other dirt or oil from the9.2 battery clips, cords, and the Instant Power™ case.
Ensure that all of the Instant Power™ components are in place and in good9.3 working condition, for example, the plastic boots on the battery clips.
Servicing does not require opening the unit, as there are no user-serviceable9.4 parts.

MOVING AND STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS10.
Store the Instant Power™ in an upright position.10.1
Store inside, in a cool, dry place.10.2
Do not store the clips on the handle, clipped together, on or around metal,10.3 or clipped to cables. The clips on the Instant Power™ are live and will
produce arcing or sparking if they come in contact with each other. To prevent
accidental arcing, always keep the clips on the storage holders when not using
it to jump start a vehicle.
If the Instant Power™ is moved around the shop or transported to another10.4 location, take care to avoid/prevent damage to the cords, clips and Instant
Power™. Failure to do so could result in personal injury or property damage.
Do not use and/or store the Instant Power™ in or on any
area or surface where damage could occur if the internal battery should
unexpectedly leak acid.

CHARGE IMMEDIATELY AFTER PURCHASE•
KEEP FULLY CHARGED•
Charge the Instant Power™ internal battery immediately after purchase, after
every use and every 30 days.
All batteries are affected by temperature. The ideal storage temperature is
at 70 degrees Fahrenheit. The internal battery will gradually self-discharge
(lose power) over time, especially in warm environments. Leaving the battery
in a discharged state may result in permanent battery damage. To ensure
satisfactory performance and avoid permanent damage, charge the internal
battery every month.
TROUBLESHOOTING11.

THIS LIMITED WARRANTY IS NOT TRANSFERABLE OR ASSIGNABLE.
Schumacher Electric Corporation (the “Manufacturer”) warrants this
Instant Power™ for one year and the internal battery for ninety days from
the date of purchase at retail against defective material or workmanship that
may occur under normal use and care. If your unit is not free from defective
material or workmanship, Manufacturers obligation under this warranty is
solely to repair or replace your product, with a new or reconditioned unit, at the
option of the Manufacturer. It is the obligation of the purchaser to forward the
unit, along with mailing charges prepaid to the Manufacturer or its authorized
representatives in order for repair or replacement to occur.
Manufacturer does not provide any warranty for any accessories used with this
product that are not manufactured by Schumacher Electric Corporation and
approved for use with this product. This Limited Warranty is void if the product
ismisused,subjectedtocarelesshandling,repaired,ormodiedbyanyone
other than Manufacturer or if this unit is resold through an unauthorized
retailer.
Manufacturer makes no other warranties, including, but not limited to, express,

SU NORMAL FUNCIONAMIENTO. POR ESTE MOTIVO, RESULTA DE SUMA
IMPORTANCIA QUE SIGA LAS INSTRUCCIONES CADA VEZ QUE UTILIZA
EL INSTANT POWER™.
Para reducir el riesgo de explosión de una batería, siga estas instrucciones1.11 y aquellas publicadas por el fabricante de la batería y por el fabricante de
cualquier equipo que intente utilizar en la proximidad de la batería. Revise las
pautas de precaución en estos productos y en el motor.

PRECAUCIONES PERSONALES2.
RIESGO DE GASES EXPLOSIVOS. UNA CHISPA CERCA DE LA
BATERÍA HACER QUE LA BATERÍA EXPLOTE. PARA REDUCIR
EL RIESGO DE CHISPAS CERCA DE LA BATERÍA:
Resulta peligroso trabajar en forma cercana a una batería de plomo. Las2.1 baterías generan gases explosivos durante su normal funcionamiento. Por
este motivo, resulta de suma importancia que siga las instrucciones cada vez
que utiliza el Instant Power™.
NUNCA fume o permita la presencia de chispas o llamas en la proximidad de2.2 una batería o motor.
No deje que la batería interna se congele. Nunca cargue una batería2.3 congelada.
Para prevenir cortos, NUNCA permita que las pinzas se junten o hagan2.4 contacto por medio de un mismo metal.
La carga de la batería interna del Instant Power™, debe realizarse en áreas2.5 bien ventiladas, sin restricción alguna.
Tenga especial cuidado para reducir el riesgo de dejar caer una herramienta2.6 de metal sobre una batería. Esto podría provocar chispas o un cortocircuito
en la batería o en cualquier otra pieza eléctrica que podría provocar una
explosión.
No utilice elementos personales de metal tales como anillos, pulseras, collares2.7 y relojes al trabajar con una batería de plomo-ácido. Una batería de plomo-
ácidopuedeproducirunacorrientedecortocircuitolosucientementeelevada
como para soldar un anillo o provocar efectos similares sobre el metal,
causando una quemadura de gravedad.
Asegúrese de que el área que rodea a la batería se encuentre bien ventilada2.8 mientras el aparato se utiliza.
RIESGO DE CONTACTO CON EL ÁCIDO DE LA
BATERÍA. EL ÁCIDO DE LA BATERÍA ES UN
ÁCIDO SULFÚRICO ALTAMENTE CORROSIVO.
Considere la idea de que alguna persona se encuentre cerca suyo para poder2.9 ayudarlo cuando trabaje en forma cercana a una batería de plomo-ácido.
Cuente con una gran cantidad de agua potable y jabón a mano en caso de2.10 que el ácido de la batería tenga contacto con su piel, ropa u ojos.
Utilice protección visual y corporal completa, incluyendo gafas de seguridad y2.11 prendas de protección. Evite tocar sus ojos mientras trabaje en forma cercana
a la batería.
Si el ácido de la batería tiene contacto con su piel o su ropa, lave de inmediato2.12 el área afectada con agua y jabón. En caso de que ingrese ácido en un ojo,
sumerja el mismo de inmediato bajo agua potable corriente por al menos 10
minutos y obtenga atención médica en forma inmediata.
Si el ácido de la batería es accidentalmente ingerido, se recomienda beber2.13 leche, clara de huevo o agua. NO provoque vómito. Busque ayuda médica de
inmediato.
Manténgase alejado de las paletas del ventilador, correas, poleas y otras2.14 piezas que podrían provocar lesiones.

Limpie los terminales de la batería antes de usar el Instant Power™. Durante2.15 la limpieza, evite que la corrosión producida por aire tenga contacto con sus
ojos, nariz y boca. Utilice bicarbonato de sodio y agua para neutralizar el ácido
de la batería y ayudar a eliminar la corrosión producida por aire. No toque
ojos, nariz o boca.
Determine el voltaje de la batería consultando el manual del usuario del2.16 vehículo y asegúrese de que la tensión de salida del voltaje el aparato sea la
correcta.

PARA REDUCIR EL RIESGO DE
PROVOCAR CHISPAS CERCA DE
LA BATERÍA:
Conecte los cables de salida a la batería y al chasis según lo indicado abajo.3.1 Nunca permita que las pinzas hagan contacto una con el otra.
Ubique los cables de C.C. para reducir el riesgo de daños a la cubierta, a la3.2 puerta y a las piezas móviles o calientes del motor. NOTA: Si es necesario
cerrar el cofre durante el proceso de arranca, asegúrese que el cofre no toque
parte metálica de la batería o pele los cables.
Manténgase alejado de las paletas del ventilador, correas, poleas y otras3.3 piezas que podrían provocar lesiones.
Veriquelapolaridaddelosbornesdelabatería.ElbornePOSITIVO(POS,P,3.4 +) de la batería generalmente posee un diámetro mayor al borne NEGATIVO
(NEG, N, -).
Determine qué borne de la batería hace descarga a tierra (se encuentra3.5 conectado) con el chasis. Si el borne negativo hace descarga a tierra con el
chasis (como en la mayor parte de los vehículos), ver el paso 3.6. Si el borne
positivo hace descarga a tierra con el chasis, ver el paso 3.7.
En un vehículo con descarga a tierra por borne negativo, conecte el gancho3.6 POSITIVO (ROJO) del Instant Power™ al borne POSITIVO (POS, P, +) sin
descarga a tierra de la batería. Conecte el gancho NEGATIVO (NEGRO) al
chasis del vehículo o al bloque motor alejado de la batería. No conecte el
gancho al carburador, líneas de combustible o cuerpos metálicos. Conecte a
una pieza metálica de calibre grueso del marco o del bloque motor.
En un vehículo con descarga a tierra por borne positivo, conecte el gancho3.7 NEGATIVO (NEGRO) del Instant Power™ al borne NEGATIVO (NEG, N, -)
sin descarga a tierra de la batería. Conecte el gancho POSITIVO (ROJO)
al chasis del vehículo o al bloque motor alejado de la batería. No conecte al
carburador, líneas de combustible o cuerpos metálicos. Conecte a una pieza
metálica de calibre grueso del marco o del bloque motor.
Al desconectar el Instant Power™, apague todos los interruptores (si es3.8 aplicable), retire el gancho del chasis del vehículo y luego retire el gancho del
terminal perteneciente a la batería.
