4.1InstrumentReprocessingRecommendations
Whenusedcorrectly, the Hydrim C51w is effectivefortheremovalofdebrison
instrumentsthatmayresultintheinsulationofmicroorganismsduringaterminal
sterilization. PriortoinsertingyourinstrumentsintotheHydrim,consultthe
manufacturer’sreprocessing instructions.
Allcriticalandsemi-criticalinstrumentscanbeconsideredcleanafterprocessinginthe
HydrimC51w. Criticalinstrumentsareusedtopenetratesofttissuesorbone,forexample
forceps,scalpels,andneedles. Non-criticalinstrumentsaredevicesthatcomeinto
contactonlywithunbrokenskin. Non-criticalinstrumentscanbeterminallyprocessed
intheHydrimC51w.
ExamplesofinstrumentssuitableforwashingintheHydrimC51winclude:

•Stainless steelretractors, needleholders,skinhooks,tissue
forceps,scissors, curettes,and otherstainlesssteelinstrumentsfree
ofdeep cavities.
Also,whenassessinginstrumentsuitabilitywithHydrimCleaningSolution,reference
theseguidelines:
• Goodqualitystainlesssteelinstrumentsaresuitableforprocessingwith
HydrimCleaningSolution.
• Carbonsteel,aluminum,nickel,andchromeorrhodiumplatedinstruments may
corrodeinHydrimCleaningSolution. ExamplesofcarbonsteelareHartzelltips
andburrs.
• Stainlesssteelinstrumentsthathaveworkingtipsmadeofothermaterialsmaynot
besuitableforprocessinginHydrimCleaningSolution. Checkwiththe
manufactureroftheinstrumentforthematerial.
• Mechanicalrotatinginstrumentssuchasburrs,grindersandrootcanalinstruments
arenotsuitableforprocessinginHydrimCleaningSolution.
• Dentalhandpieces,microkeratomes,phacotubing,fiberopticsandelectrical
equipmentshouldnotbeprocessedintheHydrim.
NOTE:SciCanrecommendsthatallhingedinstrumentsbeplacedinopenbasketsinthe
HeavyDutycycle.
NOTE:Ifusingthecannulapostadapter,alwaysusetheHeavyDutyCycle.
WhenprocessingsmallorlightobjectsintheHydrimusethebasketwithlid(SciCanpart
number01-108294).

Whenloadingtheunit,arrangelooseinstrumentssothattheydonottouchoneanother.
Instrumentswithconcavesurfacesorcavitiesshouldbeplacedsothatwater
candrainfreely.
TheHydrimC51wwashtrolleycanbeconfiguredinanumberofdifferentwaysto
accommodateawiderangeofinstruments. Onthetrolleyyoucaninsertopenbaskets,
SysTM™orIMS™cassettes(maximumcassettesize:303.5 mmx386.25 mmor11" x
14")andthecannulapost.

To attach the cannula post, follow
thesesteps:
1. Removetheupperwasharmplug(fig.
2a)andreplaceitwiththecannulanut
(fig.2b). Ensurethatthethreepiecesof
thecannulanutareassembledas
shown.

andplacethecannulapostintoit.
3. Insertthewashtrolleyinto
theHydrimC51w.
4. Pushthecannulahoseintotheupper
washarmcollar(fig.2c). Therewillbe
slight
resistance. Whenitissecuredinplace,

aslightclick.
5. To remove the cannula post, reverse the

TheHydrimC51wusesa1.9 L/ 0.5U.S.galloncontainerofHydrimC51wCleaningSolution.
Useonlytherecommendedcleaningagentandbesuretoreadthecautioninstructionson
eachbottlebeforeinsertingintotheunit.
Therearetwotypesofcleaningsolutionavailable:
1.RegularHydrimCleaningSolution(partnumberCS-C51W)
2.pHNeutralHydrimCleaningSolution(partnumberCSN-
C51W)
pHNeutralHydrimCleaningSolutionshouldbeusedwhen
processingHu-Friedy®XTS™instruments.
To order additional Hydrim C51w Cleaning Solution, contactyour
localdealer. Whenthecleaningsolutionindicatorisactivated,the
cleaningsolutioncontainerisemptyandisinneedofchanging.
To avoid spillage, replace the solution container only when the
indicatorlightisONandbesuretoweargloves.
NOTE:Eachbottleshouldlastapproximately33cycles.
To replace the cleaning solution container,followthesesteps:
1. TurnthepowerswitchOFF.
2. Pullopenthecleaningsolutiondoor.
3. Disconnectthecleaningsolutionconnector.
4. Removetheemptycleaningsolutionconnectoranddiscardor
recycle. Ensuretheconnectoriscleanandfreeofresidue.
5. Connectnewbottleandinsertintothecleaningsolution
compartment. Followtheinstructionsprintedonthebackofeach
cleaningsolutioncontainer.
6. Closethedoor.

5.2FillingtheWater Softening Reservoir
Ensurethewatersoftenerhasbeensetaccordingtothewaterhardnessinyourarea.
To fill the water softener container,followthesesteps:
1. Pour0.5 litre/16U.S.fl.oz.ofwaterintothewatersoftenercontainer.
2. Fillthecontainerwithwatersofteningsalt. (Thecontainerwillholdup
to0.5 kg/1.1 lbsofsalt.)
3. Screwthecontainerbackintoposition.
4. Ensurethatthecontaineriscompletelysealedsothatnocleaningsolutioncan
contaminatethereservoir.
5. Adjustthewaterhardnessdialtothesettingclosesttoyourwaterhardness.
(Ifstreaksorwaterspotsappear,turnthewaterhardnessdialtoahighernumber.)

SciCanrecommendsusingSTAT-DRI™Plus. STAT-DRI Plus can be purchased in a
230 ml / 8U.S. fl.oz.refillora1 L / 34U.S.fl.oz.refill. STAT-DRI Plus is availablefrom
yourdealeroryoucancontactSciCandirectlyfororderinformation.
Amaximumof60 ml /2 U.S. fl.oz.ofrinseaidcanbeaddedatonetime. Thisamountwill
lastapproximately20-25rinsesiftherinseaidadjustmentdialisonsetting3. Iftherinse
aidreservoirwindowappearsdark,thecontainerisfull.
To add rinse aid, follow these steps (see figure 5):
1. TurnthepowerswitchOFF.
2. Openthedoor.
3. Turntherinseaidreservoircapcounter-clockwiseandremoveit.
4. Pourrinseaidintotherinseaidreservoiruntilthewindowturnsdark.
5. Replacethecapsecurely.

1. Graspthehandleinthecenterof
thecoarsefilterandturnit90˚
counter-clockwise. (To reinsert
thecoarsefilter,turnthe handle
clockwise.)
2. Removethecoarsefilter.
3. Removethefinefilter.
4. Cleanbothfiltersbyrinsingthem
intapwater.
5. Re-assemble.ensuringthatthe
coarsefilterislockedinplace.
WashArm Maintenance:
Inspectthewasharmsweeklyfordebrisandcleanifnecessary.
1. Opentheunitdoorandremovethewash
rackfromtheunit.
2. Holdthefittingandunscrewtheupper
washarmplug.
3. Removetheupperwasharm.

LimitedWarranty
Foraperiodof oneyear,SciCan guaranteesthatthe Hydrim C51w,whenmanufacturedin
newandunusedcondition, willnotfailduringnormalservice due todefectsinmaterialand
workmanshipthatarenot duetoapparentabuse,misuse, or accident.
Intheeventoffailureduetosuchdefectsduringthisperiodoftime,theexclusiveremedies
shallberepairorreplacement,atSciCan’soptionandwithoutcharge,of
anydefectivepart(s),providedSciCanisnotifiedinwritingwithinthirty(30)daysof
thedateofsuchafailureandfurtherprovidedthatthedefectivepart(s)arereturned
toSciCanprepaid.
Thiswarrantyshallbeconsideredtobevalidated,iftheproductisaccompaniedbythe
