Thenew 10MHzFunction-Pulse-DataGeneratorCaddo4065 isaversatile
instrumenthaving AM-FMandothermodulationfacility.Anyoftheoutput
waveformscanbemodulatedwiththeexternalinputsignal.ThepulseandPWM
outputisaspecialfeaturewhichwill findapplicationinmostASK,FSK&PWM
applications.Avariablefrequencycontrolfacilitatesaccuratefrequency
measurement.Thedistortioniskeptwithin2%formajorityofthefrequencyranges.
Theinternalsweepmodeisprovidedforresponsemeasurement.Frequenciesare
displayedinabrightDucklitLCDdisplaycontrolledbymicrocontroller.
Outputcanbeattenuatedaslowas60dB,giving aminimumof20mVlevel.The
squarewaveriseandfalltimeiswithin50ns,thusgivingyouverygood squarewave
evenat2MHz.StandardAM, balancedAM,FMASK,FSK&PWMmodulation

OperatingInstructions
GeneralInformation:
Thelogicalfrontpanellayoutof Caddo4065 makesit easytobecomefamiliarwith
theoperationoftheinstruments.However,evenexperiencedusersshouldreadthe
followinginstructionsthoroughlybeforeusingtheinstrument.
Afterunpacking theinstrument,checkforanymechanicaldamageorlooseparts
inside.Shouldtherebeanytransportationdamage,informthesupplierimmediately
anddonotputtheinstrumentintooperation.
Safety:
Thecasechassisandallmeasuringpartsareconnectedtotheprotectiveearthcontact
oftheinlet.Themainsplugshallonlybeinsertedinasocketoutletprovidedwitha
protectiveearthcontact.Theprotectiveactionmustnotbenegatedbytheuseofan
extensioncordwithoutaprotectiveconductor.
Warning!
Anyinterruptionoftheprotective conductorinsideoroutsidetheinstrumentor
disconnection oftheprotectiveearthterminalislikelytomaketheinstrument
dangerous.Intentionalinterruptionisprohibited.Themains/lineplug shouldbe
insertedbeforeconnectionsaremadetomeasuringcircuits.
Whenremovingthemetalcaseorreplacing,theinstrumentmustbecompletely
disconnectedfromthemainssupply. Ifanymeasurementorcalibrationproceduresare
unavoidableontheopened-up instrument,thesemustonlybecarriedoutbyqualified
personnelacquaintedwiththedangerinvolved.
OperatingConditions:
Theambienttemperaturerangeduring operationshouldbebetween+0°-48°C;90%
RHandshouldnotexceed-20°Cto+70°Cduring transportorstorage. Theoperational
positionisshouldbenormal. However;theventilationholesonthe Caddo4065 must
notbeobstructed.Priortocalibrationapreheatrunofapproximately30minutesis
required.

FirstTimeOperation:
Afterunpackingtheinstrumentcheckforanymechanicaldamages.Theinstrument
shouldbepluggedinmains-plugofpropermainssupply230V±10%.Switch‘On’
theinstrument, thepower‘On’isindicatedbylighting ofdisplays.
FunctionSelection(Function):
Thetypeofoutputsignalisselectedwiththemenublock (3). Atotalnumber6
differentwaveform- sine,squareandtriangle,ramp,Pulseand TTL areavailable.
Thefunctionsaremarkedwiththecorresponding symbols.
FrequencyAdjustment(frequency):
Coarseadjustmentisperformedwiththemenublock (3) dividedintodecades.The
desiredfrequencyisselectedbyturningthe Variable control.Theselectedfrequency
appearsontheLCD (2), comparedtoanalogknobscalesthisdisplayhasamuch
higherresolution.
SignalOutput:
ConnectaBNC-BNCcableattheoutputandotherendtooscilloscope.Keepboth
attenuators(20 &40dBinreleasedposition).Adjustthedesiredoutputwiththehelp
ofamplitudevariable (11) andattenuator.Thegeneratorprovidesamaximum of
20Vppandminimumof2mVpp (approximately)output. Itisrecommendedtousethe
terminatedcable(50Ω)forobserving squarewaveorpulsestoreduceovershootand
ringingetc.With50Ωterminationthemaximum outputis10Vpp.
InternalModulationGenerator(MODG):
Internalmodulationgeneratorprovidesreadytousemodulationinputformain
generator.Whenin sine,squareortriangle selectmodethegeneratorgetsinternally
connectedtothemodulationinputofmaingenerator.Inextselecttheexternalinput
canbegiven.
Modulation(MOD):
The Caddo4065 has6typesofmodulationcapabilities.Theusercanselectthe
modulationfunctiondesired,bymenublock. Ifnomodulationisdesired,keepthisin
‘Off’position.
ThemodulationsignalistobefedtoModulationInputBNC (19),depending on
choiceofmodulation, withvoltagelevelnotexceeding10Vpp and2Vpprespectively.
Theusercanselectwhethertouseinternalorexternalmodulationgenerator.The
outputofmodulationgeneratorisavailableattheBNC (20) andthishastobe
connectedtoModInBNC (19) dependingontypeofmodulationdesired.
The10MHzgeneratoroftheinstrumentactsascarrierfrequencysource.The
modulatedoutputisavailableatOUTPUT BNC (15).

Feedsignal(Keepinitially1Vpp)attheModInterminal.Supposeyouhavepressed
AMStandardthenyou will getAmplitudeModulatedoutputvaryinglinearlyfrom
0%depthofmodulationto100%depthofmodulationasmodulatingsignalis
increased.WhenAMbalancedisselectedthenoutputisamplitudemodulatedbut
withsuppressedcarrier.Heretheoutputwill bedirectlyrelatedtothemodulating
signalinput.Sincepoweramplifierhasagainof10,theoutputwillbe10Vpp (1V
beingthemodulating signal).
Toachieveanoutputof20Vincreasethemodulating signalto2Vpp andyouwillget
thesamelevelof20Vpp.Thusstudentknowsclearlythedifferenceinstandardand
balancedmodulation.
WhenFMisselectedbymenukeyyouwill observefrequencymodulation.Here
againFMmodulationincreasesastheinputlevelisincreased.Keepmaximum
Modulationinputto2Vpp.Whensweepisselected,alltheexternalmodulationgets
cutoff andfunctiongeneratoroperatesontheinternalsweepvaryingfrom 20msto
4s.Similarlywhenusing ASK,FSKorPWMfeedthesignalatthemodulationInput
(19).
