RESPONSIBILITY AND RULES FOR RIDING
BfCYCLE SELECTION AND PURCHASE
This bicycle conforms with the requirements of Bicycle
Manufacturers Association Standard BMA6.
The purchaser should assure this bicycle fits the intended
rider. Bicycles come in several sizes. Personal adjust-
ment of saddle and handlebars are necessary to assure
maximum safety and comfort.
The pu~chaser should be instructed on the operation of
accessories and equipment, and be sure the intended rider
can operate them.
PREPARATION
ASSEMBL Y-The manufacturer's instructions for assem-
bly should be fol/owed, and the assembler should insure
that al/ nuts, bolts and screws are tightened.
FITTING THE BICYCLE.. To ride safely and comfort-
ably, the bicycle must FIT the rider. The assembler
should check the saddle position, adjusting it up or down
so that with the bal/ of the rider's foot on the pedal in its
lowest position, the rider's knee is slightly bent.
At least 2~ inches of seat post and handlebar stem should
remain in the frame. Seat post, nuts and handlebar stem
shql/ then be securely tightened.
TIRES -Tires should not be over-inflated, and should be
kept at the specified pressure.
BRAKES -The rear caliper brake lever which is marked
"R" should be assembled to the right-hand side of the
handlebar. The front caliper brake lever which is marked
"P" should be assembled to the left side of the handle-
bar. Brakes should be in good operating condition.
REFLECTORS AND LIGHTS -Reflectors should be se-
curely fastened and visible from the rear. If lights are in-
stal/ed, they should be in good operating condition.
MAINTENANCE
The bicycle should be inspected and lubricated frequently.
REFLECTORS AND LIGHTS -Should be visible at dusk
and at night. Damaged units should be promptly repaired
or rep laced.
TIRES -Should be inspected frequently for wear. Pres-
sure should be checked frequently.
WHEEL
ALIGNMENT -Wheels should rotate smoothly
without wobbling from side to side. If necessary, they
should be realigned. Axle nuts should be kept tight.
HANDLEBARS -Should be adjusted frequently for com-
fort and growth. At least 2~ inches of handlebar stem and
seat post should be kept down in the frame. They should
be securely tightened. Handlebar grips should fit snugly,
and worn ones replaced.
BRAKES
-When the bicycle leaves the manufacturer, the
brakes have been checked and adjusted. The purchaser
should periodical/y inspect and maintain the brakes. The
coaster brake arm must be securely fastened to the frame.
PEDALS -It is imperative that the shoulder of the pedal
axle be securely tightened against the crank arm. Worn or
damaged pedals should be replaced.
CHAIN -Chain should be checked frequently for damage
and stretch, and be readjusted if necessary. It should be
lubricated frequently with light oi/.
The bicycle should be inspected twice ayear by acompe-
tent person.

RULES OF THE ROAD
Obey al/ traffic instructions, traffic lights, stop signs,
one-way streets, etc.
Keep right and ride single file. Don't weave in and out,
swerve or stunt in traffic. Never hitch aride on another
vehicle.
For dusk or night riding, the bicycle should be equipped
with awhite light in front and areflector in the rear.
Take special precautions at al/ intersections. Look both
ways; be sure to use proper hand signals to indicate stop-
ping and turning.
Always give pedestrians the right of way.
Watch out for cars pul/ing into traffic, and for doors open-
ing on parked cars.
Don't carry passengers. Never carry packages that ob-
struct vision, or interfere with the proper control of the
bicycle.
